Question

Opening doors?

The space for the refrigerator is 36". How much larger does it need to be to allow for air circulation and to allow the doors to open to approximately 120 degrees? The model #RS2530BSH

The RS2530BSH is 35-7/8" wide, and Samsung recommends leaving 1/8" on either side to allow air to circulate. This is important for the internal cooling system to work properly, and provides the added benefit of reducing power consumption. I don't have the dimensions available for space necessary to open the doors 120°, but I can tell you that the handle is 2-1/2" deep, so if the refrigerator is installed next to a fixed wall that the door will open into, you'll need to leave at least 2-1/2" to open the door 90°.

Power outages are sometimes accompanied by surges that can damage the refrigerator. If your RS2530BSH/XAA display has an error code displayed or is not responsive after an outage, it may require service. First, check to see if the outage caused it to go into "Demo" or "Cooling Off" mode by pressing the Power Freeze and Freeze buttons simultaneously for at least 3 seconds until a chime sounds. If the Cooling Off mode was activated, a small icon that looks like a circle with a bar through it would be illuminated on the display, and would then turn off after deactivating this mode. If this does not cause the compressor to turn on and start to produce cold air after a few minutes, please submit an online service request through the link below, or call 800-SAMSUNG to speak with an agent who will be happy to assist you.

Question

RS2530BSH FRIG STOPPED COOLING - ICE BLOCKING VENTS IN FREEZER

The refrigerator stopped cooling. An inspection reviewed ice buildup in the freezer. I pulled the plug to defrost. After a number of hours, I noticed my hardwood floors getting all wet. Does this frig have a collection pan underneath? What is wrong with the frig? The frig is ON all the time but I never use it since it sits in a vacant house.

It's not unusual for the outer walls of the refrigerator and the front edge of the wall between the fridge and freezer compartments of your RS2530 to feel warm due to the location of the defrost heaters, but if these areas feel excessively hot, it may require service. Please submit an online service request through the link below, or call 800-SAMSUNG to speak with an agent who will be happy to assist you.

I'm sorry to hear you're having these issues with your RS2530BSH. It's possible that the LED light is flashing to indicate there is ice stuck in the icemaker. The remedy for this is to turn the icemaker off, remove the cubes, then turn the icemaker back on. If your refrigerator and freezer compartments are not cooling or freezing, please make sure the Demo (or Cooling Off) mode is not activated by pressing the Power Freeze and Freezer buttons simultaneously for several seconds until a chime sounds. When Demo mode is activated, there is a symbol on the display that looks like a circle with a line through it. In Demo mode, the lights would be working but the unit won't cool. Once Demo mode is deactivated, lower the temperature and try pressing the Power Freeze button to speed up the cooling process. If the Child Lock is on, it will need to be turned off before you're able to make any of the other changes to the control panel.

If this does not resolve your issue, your RS2530BSH will require service. Please submit an online service request through the link below, or call 800-SAMSUNG to speak with an agent who will be happy to assist you.

If your refrigerator is connected to a working power supply and the lights are on but it is not cooling, it may be in "Cooling Off" mode which is used for in-store displays. To deactivate this mode, press the Power Freeze and Freeze buttons simultaneously for several seconds. This should cause the compressor to come on and start to cool within a few minutes. Once it starts to cool, pressing the Power Freeze button again will help to speed up the cooling process. If this does not resolve the issue, please call 800-SAMSUNG to speak with an agent who will be happy to assist you further.

I'm sorry to hear your RS2530BSH icemaker has stopped working. There are a number of factors that can effect the ability of the icemaker to produce ice, including temperature and access to water, and most of these issues can be corrected without service. Please check each of the following factors:

- Did you try pressing the Test button on the side of the icemaker?
- Is the icemaker turned on (make sure the Ice Off icon is not illuminated on the control panel)?
- Is the feeler arm that hangs down from the icemaker stuck in the "Up" position? If so, try lowering it.
- Is your water pressure at the recommended level? In order for the ice maker to operate properly, water pressure of 20~125 psi (pound per square inch) is required.
- Is the water valve turned on all the way?
- Are there any bends or kinks in the water line that could be obstructing water flow?
- Is the water filter installed correctly?
- Did you bleed air from the lines after installing or replacing the water filter by dispensing 5-6 gallons of water?
- Try removing the water filter temporarily and press the test button. If the tray fills, your filter was probably clogged or partially clogged and should be replaced.
- Are the freezer and refrigerator temperatures set at 3 bars? If the freezer is too warm, it may not be conducive to freezing the ice. If the fridge is too cold, the water lines could freeze.
- If the tray fills with water, you can activate the Power Freeze function on the control panel to help speed up ice production.

If, after checking the above and pressing the Test button, the tray still won't fill, or it fills, freezes, but will not harvest, your RS2530 will probably require service. It's normal for the cooling system in your RS2530 to cycle on and off as needed to maintain the set temperature, but if you find that the temperature fluctuates dramatically without changing the setting or leaving the doors open for extended periods, it may require service. Samsung recommends setting the RS2530 temperature on "3 bars", though you should be able to make it colder by adjusting it to 4 or 5 bars, if necessary. I'm sorry to hear you're having these issues with your RS2530BSH. If one side is cooling but the other is not, your refrigerator will require service. In addition, the RS2530BSH is designed to be self-defrosting. While a small amount of frost is not unusual if the doors are open frequently, especially in warm and humid environments, or if they are not sealing properly, if frost is accumulating and ice is building up it may also require service. Please make sure the vents in the freezer are not blocked and the refrigerator has sufficient air flow around the outside. If the problems persist, please submit an online service request through the link below, or call 800-SAMSUNG to speak with an agent who will be happy to assist you.

To make the refrigerator and freezer colder on your RS2530, press the Freeze and Fridge buttons on the control panel to increase the number of bars that are lit up. Samsung recommends "3 bars" for each, but if this is not sufficiently cold you can set it colder by increasing the number of bars, ranging from Cold (one bar) to Coldest (5 bars). For more information on using the control panel, please refer to the user manual which can be downloaded as a pdf file from this website.

I'm sorry to hear you're having an issue with your RS2530BSH. If one side is cooling and the other is not, your refrigerator will require service since that rules out the problem being caused by a faulty power supply or the "Cooling Off" mode being activated on the refrigerator. Since your freezer stopped cooling before your refrigerator, I would recommend submitting an online service request through the link below, or call 800-SAMSUNG to speak with an agent who will be happy to assist you.
