Question

Ice makers very slow

I just bought the RFG298HDRS and have noticed ice making is extremely slow. I have set the temperatures per Samsung recommendation, tested our water flow, 12 oz. in 10 seconds, and reset both makers. The last time I heard the top maker drop ice was over 2 hours ago. Why so slow??

Question

Ice/Water Display falling off

I recently purchased a Samsung refrigerator Model: RFG298HDRS/XAA (Serial: I76543CB405782W) and the display panel will not stay on. The black tinted plastic panel falls off several times a day. How can I fix this without voiding the warranty?

Thanks,

Question

Internal freezer compartment experiences heavy build up of frost

This occurred upon returning from vacation. I was told the drawer was probably left open. I then found out that when the drawer is open about half an inch, the freezer light is not on and the door alarm will not sound. The alarm works properly if the drawer light is on. Is this the way the alarm function is supposed to work?

we just got service for the same issue (frost). I would request service from Samsung. The repair man said the freezer drawer was not assembled properly and he fixed the assembly. The materials are fine, but bad assembly caused the heavy snow like frost and ice.

I'm sorry to hear you're having this issue with your RFG298HDRS. If you're referring to the protective film that peels off the control panel, it's fine to remove this after delivery. If, however, you're referring to the actual control panel cover, and it will not snap back in place and stay there, then I would suggest calling 800-SAMSUNG to speak with an agent who will be happy to assist you in finding a solution.

The lower icemaker in the RFG298HDRS is designed to produce approximately 4.2 pounds of ice per day under ideal conditions, which is only slightly less than the 4.9 pound storage capacity of the ice bucket in the freezer. Production may vary depending on freezer compartment temperature, room temperature, number of door openings and other factors, so if yours is making less than this, I would suggest checking the following:
- The recommended temperatures for the refrigerator and freezer compartments are 38°F and -2°F, respectively. If the freezer temperature is set higher than this, it could effect ice production. If the refrigerator is too cold, the water lines could freeze.
- Is something pressing against the lever that detects when the ice bin is full? The icemaker will not produce ice if it detects a full bin.
- Have you tried pressing the Test button on the bottom of the icemaker to reset it?
- Have you replaced your water filter recently? A clogged or partially clogged filter can slow water flow and effect ice production. After replacing the filter, be sure to dispense up to 6 gallons of water to bleed air from the lines. After doing so, you may need to press the Test button on the icemaker again.
- Is your home's water pressure sufficient? In order for the ice maker to operate properly, water pressure of 20~125 psi is required. Under normal conditions, a 6 oz glass can be filled in about 10 seconds. If the Refrigerator is installed in an area with low water pressure (below 20psi), you may be able to install a booster pump to compensate for the low pressure.
- The Power Freeze feature can help increase ice production by running the compressor for an extended period of time.

I hope these suggestions help to increase your ice production.

To turn off the icemaker in the freezer of your RFG298HDRS, press the Ice Off button repeatedly until the icon on the far right of your display is illuminated. This is the Lower Icemaker Ice Off icon. The one just to the left of it should not be illuminated since this is the Ice Off icon for the Upper Icemaker.

The letters "OF" on the display of your RFG298HDRS indicate the Cooling Off mode has been activated. To cancel this mode, press the Energy Saver and Freezer buttons simultaneously for 3 seconds until a chime sounds and a numeric reading returns to the display, allowing you to set the desired temperature. The compressor should turn on in about 5 minutes and begin producing cold air.

Yes, the lower icemaker in the freezer compartment can be turned off by pressing the Ice Off button on the control panel repeatedly until the corresponding Ice Off icon is illuminated. This will not effect the upper icemaker which supplies the ice to the door dispenser. If you decide to turn the lower icemaker back on, press the Ice Off button again until the icon is no longer lit up.

There are several factors that can effect the ability of an icemaker to produce or dispense ice, including water supply, freezer and refrigerator temperatures, and control panel functions. It isn't clear from your question whether ice is being produced and harvested but will not dispense, or if ice isn't being made either, so please check the following to try to resolve the issue:
- Is your home's water pressure between 20~125 psi? Under normal conditions, a 5.75 oz. glass can be filled in about 10 seconds.
- Is the refrigerator set at the recommended 38°F? If the refrigerator is too cold, the water lines to the icemaker could freeze.
- Is the freezer temperature cold enough? Samsung recommends setting the freezer at -2°F.
- Is the icemaker turned on? Make sure the Ice Off icon is not illuminated on the display.
- Is an Ice Type selected on the display?
- Is the feeler arm under the icemaker stuck in the "up" position, which would signal to the icemaker that the bucket is full and to stop making ice.
- Did you bleed the air from the lines by dispensing 5-6 gallons of water from the dispenser since installing or replacing the filter?
- Did you press the Test button on the icemaker to reset it? This should cause the tray to rotate and dump ice, then fill with water.

If none of the above suggestions helps to resolve the issue, and the ice tray does not fill with water, try removing the water filter temporarily and press the test button on the icemaker again. If the tray fills without a filter installed, then the cartridge is likely clogged or partially clogged and should be replaced. The filter should be replaced about every 6 months based on average usage, but it could become clogged sooner if there are a lot of impurities in the water supply.

If, after checking each of these suggestions, the icemaker still isn't functioning properly, please submit an online service request through the link below, or call 800-SAMSUNG to speak with an agent who can assist you.

The Energy Saver feature disables the low-wattage heater in the strip between the refrigerator doors of the RFG298HDRS, which helps to evaporate condensation. If you live in a very dry climate and do not have an issue with condensation, then there's no harm in using the Energy Saver function; just press the button on the control panel to turn Energy Saver on.
