Questions & Answers for samsung 29 cu. ft. French Door Refrigerator

Question

Can you stop the Ice Maker from dripping water?

I'm not exactly sure where the issue comes from, but I have a couple of ideas. The first is that small pieces of ice get stuck on the way down through the door. Then since the door is not cold enough to keep water solid it melts. Meaning next time I go to get ice/water a small amount water falls from the opening.

The other idea my wife suggested was it could be condensate from the temperature change of the ice maker compartment and the refrigerated door.

It's not a lot of water, but I have to empty my overflowing drip tray about once a day. It's getting kind of annoying.

I'm sorry to hear you're having this issue. You and your wife could both be correct, since there are a variety of issues that could cause the dispenser to drip. Ice fragments remaining in the chute and melting, especially when crushed ice is selected, is a very common cause, and could be remedied by wiping the chute out after use. I would also suggest checking that the seal between the chute and the icebucket above it is fairly secure when the left door is closed. You can check this by closing the left door, and looking inside through the right side to see if there are any gaps in the seal. If so, you can try adjusting the door height using the fastener rings that came with your refrigerator (see page 16 of the User Manual, which can be downloaded as a pdf file for your convenience).

Another cause of the leak could be air in the water line. If you recently installed the refrigerator or replaced the water filter, be sure to flush several gallons of water through the line to ensure there is no air in the line. Also, be sure the filter is installed properly and turned all the way so it's locked in place. An improperly installed water filter can also lead to leaking.

If after checking all of these possible causes you continue to have this issue, please contact Samsung for service by submitting a request through the link below or calling 800-SAMSUNG to speak with an agent who can assist you further.

There are a number of products on the market specifically intended to clean real stainless steel. These can be found at a variety of retailers, including appliance, hardware and home improvement stores. Another option is to apply a small amount of baby oil to the stainless finish using a clean, dry, lint-free cloth. This will not only clean the stainless steel, but will help prevent fingerprints from recurring.

Thank you for the question. Samsung does not have exposed coils behind the refrigerators, so it is not necessary to clean the coils. It is recommended to dust or vacuum the vent on the lower outside rear of the refrigerator to prevent dust from building up. Other maintenance recommendations, such as cleaning the interior and exterior and changing the water filter, are detailed in the User Manual which can be downloaded as a pdf file from this website.

Question

are there any known issues with the display panel on the RFG298AARS?

The light on the water/ice dispenser turns on and off randomly. When it turns on by itself none of the other buttons function until the light turns itself off. This is the second unit we have had in the past two months. The first unit had both the dispenser panel and motherboard replaced. What's up with this model? What can you do about it?

I'm sorry to hear you're having trouble with the controls on your RFG298AARS. If the controls are not responding, I would suggest checking to see if the Child Lock has been engaged by pressing the ICE OFF button and holding it for 3 seconds.

If the controls continue to be unresponsive, and the LED light under the dispenser is turning on and off without using the dispenser or pressing the button on the control panel, your refrigerator will require service. To initiate service through Samsung, please submit an online service request through the link below, or call 800-SAMSUNG to speak with an agent who will be happy to assist you.

After removing the old water filter from your RFG298AARS and installing a new one, you can reset the indicator by pressing and holding the “Alarm/Hold 3 sec for Filter Reset” button for 3 seconds. The filter indicator should change from red to blue once it's reset.

Question

How Can I get the -Red Clip, 1/4"- referred to in the User Manual on Page 13, #4 illustrations?

On Page 13 of the User MAnual, under "Setting Up" Instruction #4 Illustration 5 refers to the insertion of a "Red Clip 1/4 inch" onto the dispenser door tube in front of the coupler, to insure the tube remains fully inserted into the coupler. This prevents water and/or air leaks in the line which can cause problems, such as dripping at the water dispenser. I have checked the coupler and no red clip has been inserted by the installers. I can not find any red clip with the accessories included. Is the clip essential, and if so, where can I obtain one?

Question

Where can I get a replacement fixed cap?

Water coming to my fridge runs through a water filter before getting to the fridge so we don't want to replace the filter in the fridge. The manual says to save the fixed cap for this. We weren't there when the fridge was installed since our house is new construction and don't know what happened to the cap. Can we order a replacement?

I'm sorry to hear you're having this issue. Please check to make sure the water valve was turned back on fully after the RFG298 was serviced, and make sure there are no kinks or bends in the water line. Next, make sure the lower icemaker is not turned off by looking to see if the "Ice Off" icon corresponding to the lower icemaker is illuminated on the control panel. If so, press the Ice Off button again to toggle through the options until the icon is turned off.

If the ice trays still haven't filled with water, press the "test/reset" button under the ice tray (see Troubleshooting Guide for instructions and assistance locating the button). If the ice tray still doesn't fill, please call 800-SAMSUNG or use the Live Chat button on the support page for additional assistance.

If your ice maker is dispensing the wrong type of ice, it's possible there is a buildup of ice at the dispenser opening, preventing the door flap from closing to crush the ice instead of dispensing it as cubes. Please follow this link to open the Troubleshooting Guide, then select "Water And Ice" > "Ice" > "Ice Maker Is Dispensing The Wrong Type Of Ice": http://support-us.samsung.com/cyber...

Question

I defrosted some meat, and some juice ran inside the shelf gasket. I need to remove the shelf to adequately clean it. I am afraid of breaking the tabs at the back of the shelf.
