Question

Can you stop the Ice Maker from dripping water?

I'm not exactly sure where the issue comes from, but I have a couple of ideas. The first is that small pieces of ice get stuck on the way down through the door. Then since the door is not cold enough to keep water solid it melts. Meaning next time I go to get ice/water a small amount water falls from the opening.

The other idea my wife suggested was it could be condensate from the temperature change of the ice maker compartment and the refrigerated door.

It's not a lot of water, but I have to empty my overflowing drip tray about once a day. It's getting kind of annoying.

I'm sorry to hear you're having this issue. You and your wife could both be correct, since there are a variety of issues that could cause the dispenser to drip. Ice fragments remaining in the chute and melting, especially when crushed ice is selected, is a very common cause, and could be remedied by wiping the chute out after use. I would also suggest checking that the seal between the chute and the icebucket above it is fairly secure when the left door is closed. You can check this by closing the left door, and looking inside through the right side to see if there are any gaps in the seal. If so, you can try adjusting the door height using the fastener rings that came with your refrigerator (see page 16 of the User Manual, which can be downloaded as a pdf file for your convenience).

Another cause of the leak could be air in the water line. If you recently installed the refrigerator or replaced the water filter, be sure to flush several gallons of water through the line to ensure there is no air in the line. Also, be sure the filter is installed properly and turned all the way so it's locked in place. An improperly installed water filter can also lead to leaking.

If after checking all of these possible causes you continue to have this issue, please contact Samsung for service by submitting a request through the link below or calling 800-SAMSUNG to speak with an agent who can assist you further.

Great question! Samsung's "RFG" and "RSG" series refrigerators use a new, state-of-the-art insulation, as well as smaller components in the sealed system, to allow for more capacity within the same dimensions as other refrigerators. Best of all, Samsung accomplishes this without compromising the effectiveness of our Twin Cooling system - in fact we improved on it with these new models - and without compromising on efficiency.

If the display on your RFG298AARS reads "OF", this is an indication that it is in "Cooling Off" or "Demo" mode (see page 22 of the User Manual). To disable this mode and turn the cooling system on, press the Energy Saver and Freezer buttons simultaneously and hold for about 3 seconds until a chime is heard. Numeric temperatures should be displayed for both the refrigerator and freezer. Please refer to the User Manual for instructions on setting the temperature of each compartment.

Question

How to make the freezer door close automatically?

I purchased my first rfg298aars fridge 8/16/10 and had it replaced yesterday, 8/24/10 due to frosting on the door tracks in the freezer. Also, because the bottom freezer door would not automatically close. When the second freezer arrived yesterday, the freezer door closed beautifully. However, now that the freezer has reached the set temperature, the door no longer closes automatically. As of this time, I have not placed any food in the freezer, so I am assuming that overloading the drawer is not the issue. My greatest fear is that, expecting the freezer door to close automatically, it will not close completely and all of my frozen foods will thaw. How can this problem be solved?

While the RFG298AARS does not have a feature that enables the drawer to close automatically, adjusting the front leveling legs on the refrigerator so it leans back slightly will help the doors and drawer to close on their own. I would also suggest you visit the Troubleshooting Guide through the link below, then click on Operation > Freezer > Frost in the Freezer > Frost In The Freezer Due To The Freezer Door Not Closing Properly: http://support-us.samsung.com/cyber...

This article may help you avoid issues with frost in your new unit.

Question

Door seal doesnt work right

The door flap/seal attached to the left door only closes by itself about 1/2 of the time, and if the right door is already open the flap/seal only opens about 1/2 of the time. Looks like something is out of alignment, but I can't see any adjustments.

The flap between the doors of the RFG298AARS opens and closes by following a small track at the top edge of the opening to the refrigerator. If the left door is hanging too low, the flap may not be able to engage with its track. To correct this, you will likely need to adjust the height of the left door, either by releveling the refrigerator, or by installing one or more of the fastener rings that came with the refrigerator, or both.

Please refer to pages 15-16 of the User Manual, which can be downloaded as a pdf file from this website, for instructions on both types of adjustments. If the problem persists after making these adjustments, or if you need additional information to perform them, please call 800-SAMSUNG to speak with an agent who will be happy to assist you further.

Thanks for the question. There is a water filter cap available through SamsungParts.com or by calling 800-627-4368, though you may not need one with your refrigerator. If you remove the filter and find that there is water dripping, you may want to order the cap; otherwise, it isn't necessary.

Question

are there any known issues with the display panel on the RFG298AARS?

The light on the water/ice dispenser turns on and off randomly. When it turns on by itself none of the other buttons function until the light turns itself off. This is the second unit we have had in the past two months. The first unit had both the dispenser panel and motherboard replaced. What's up with this model? What can you do about it?

I'm sorry to hear you're having trouble with the controls on your RFG298AARS. If the controls are not responding, I would suggest checking to see if the Child Lock has been engaged by pressing the ICE OFF button and holding it for 3 seconds.

If the controls continue to be unresponsive, and the LED light under the dispenser is turning on and off without using the dispenser or pressing the button on the control panel, your refrigerator will require service. To initiate service through Samsung, please submit an online service request through the link below, or call 800-SAMSUNG to speak with an agent who will be happy to assist you.

Question

Where can I get a replacement fixed cap?

Water coming to my fridge runs through a water filter before getting to the fridge so we don't want to replace the filter in the fridge. The manual says to save the fixed cap for this. We weren't there when the fridge was installed since our house is new construction and don't know what happened to the cap. Can we order a replacement?

Question

My unit is not yet in production so the doors are only opened maybe twice a day, yet the power consumption is double what it's rated at.

It's using almost 3kW/day but it's suppose to be 1.5kW/day. Temp settings are at factory defaults(-2 and 38F). The ambient temperature is about 77F. Any ideas?

Thank you for the question. I'm not sure what you mean by "not yet in production", but will try to answer as thoroughly as possible. There are a number of factors that can effect the ability of the refrigerator to run at optimal efficiency, including whether it's installed in direct sunlight and whether it has the recommended clearance for ventilation around the sides, top and back of the unit. In addition, it is important to note that the 565 kWh/year is an average over the entire year based on Energy Star testing standards. Measuring the energy use on daily basis may not provide an accurate representation of the unit's energy efficiency at different times of the year.

I hope this answers your question.

Samsung does currently make a counter depth version of the RFG298AARS without the external ice and water dispenser. We do, however, make a version with the ice and water (RFG237AARS or RFG238AARS), and we also make a 33" wide counter depth without the external dispenser (RF197ABRS).

I'm sorry to hear you're having this issue. Please check to make sure the water valve was turned back on fully after the RFG298 was serviced, and make sure there are no kinks or bends in the water line. Next, make sure the lower icemaker is not turned off by looking to see if the "Ice Off" icon corresponding to the lower icemaker is illuminated on the control panel. If so, press the Ice Off button again to toggle through the options until the icon is turned off.

If the ice trays still haven't filled with water, press the "test/reset" button under the ice tray (see Troubleshooting Guide for instructions and assistance locating the button). If the ice tray still doesn't fill, please call 800-SAMSUNG or use the Live Chat button on the support page for additional assistance.

If the water is not dispensing but ice is still being produced, please check the water line connection to the door dispenser that runs under the left door hinge cover, as illustrated on page 13 of the User Manual. If you recently changed the water filter, you may need to bleed the air from the line by pressing the lever for an extended period. Be sure to press Water on the control panel so the icon is illuminated. Once water starts coming out, dispense 5-6 gallons to bleed all the air from the lines.

I'm sorry to hear you're having this issue. If your RFG298AARS is dispensing the wrong type of ice, it is possible that there is a build up of ice preventing the dispenser flap from opening and closing properly. To determine if this is the case, please open the Troubleshooting Guide by following the link below, then select "Water And Ice" > "Ice" > "Ice Maker Is Dispensing The Wrong Type Of Ice": http://support-us.samsung.com/cyber...

If this does not resolve the issue for you, please call 800-SAMSUNG to speak with an agent who will be happy to assist you further.
