I'm sorry to hear you're having an issue with your icemaker. Please check the following to see if there are any tips you may not have come across already:
- Is your home's water pressure between 20~125 psi? Under normal conditions, a 5.75 oz. glass can be filled in about 10 seconds.
- Is the refrigerator set at the recommended 38°F? If the refrigerator is too cold, the water lines could freeze.
- Is the freezer temperature cold enough? Samsung recommends setting the freezer at -2°F.
- Is the icemaker turned on? Make sure the Ice Off icon is not illuminated on the display.
- Is the feeler arm under the icemaker stuck in the "up" position, which would signal to the icemaker that the bucket is full and to stop making ice.
- Is the water filter installed properly and locked in place?
- Did you bleed the air from the lines by dispensing 5-6 gallons of water from the dispenser since installing or replacing the filter?
- Did you press the Test button on the icemaker to reset it?

If none of the above suggestions helps to resolve the issue, and the ice tray does not fill with water when you press the Test button, try removing the water filter temporarily and press the test button on the icemaker again. If the tray fills without a filter installed, then the cartridge is likely clogged or partially clogged and should be replaced. The filter should be replaced about every 6 months based on average usage, but it could become clogged sooner if there are a lot of impurities in the water supply.

If, after checking each of these suggestions, the icemaker still isn't functioning properly, please submit an online service request through the link below, or call 800-SAMSUNG to speak with an agent who can assist you.

Question

Self Closing Feature

Unfortunately, the left door of my new refrigerator will not close as stated below. The right door does indeed close as explained. We have only had the refrigerator several weeks so not sure whom to call.

Thank you!

The "self closing" feature on the RFG297AAWP is referred to as "Cool Tight Doors". Sometimes, one side of a French Door refrigerator will open when the other side is closed; this is caused by the air compressing inside the refrigerator. If left unnoticed, cold air may escape, leading to increased energy use or food spoilage, or both. The small hooks located at the top of Samsung's French Doors near the hinges helps to prevent this from happening by catching the door when it's open just a small amount and pulling it closed.

If your "Cool Tight Doors" are not working properly, and the doors were removed during delivery or installation, it's possible they were not reinstalled correctly and simply need to be adjusted. I would suggest contacting your retailer for assistance, or reviewing the instructions in your User Manual to ensure the doors were reattached properly. The User Manual can be downloaded as a PDF file from this website for your convenience.

If the problem persists and you are unable to align the doors so they close properly, your refrigerator may require service. To initiate service through Samsung, please submit an online service request through the link below, or call 800-SAMSUNG to speak with an agent who will be happy to assist you.

The RFG297 cannot be retrofitted with a second icemaker. If you think the Dual Ice feature might be useful to you, then I would suggest you consider the RFG298 model, which does have the second icemaker factory installed.

I'm sorry to hear you're experiencing this issue. The upper freezer drawer on the RFG297AAWP does not actually pull all the way out because of the way the track is designed. For the "auto open" to function, it's important for the upper (Auto Pull-out) freezer drawer to be seated correctly on its track, so the bottom of the drawer catches on the top of lower drawer properly. When correctly seated, the upper Auto Pull-out drawer opens as the bottom freezer drawer is pulled open.

I would suggest you visit a local retailer that has the RFG297 on display to determine whether your unit is working correctly. If not, please feel free to contact 800-SAMSUNG to speak with an agent who can assist you. If you are unable to find an RFG297AAWP on display, you may find it easier to locate a stainless RFG297AARS on display instead.

There are several factors which could effect the rate that water flows from the dispenser of your RFG297AAWP. Household water pressure of 20~125 psi (pound per square inch) is required for the icemaker and water dispenser to work properly. Under normal conditions, a 170 cc (5.75 oz.) cup can be filled in 10 seconds. If the Refrigerator is installed in an area with low water pressure (below 20psi), you can install a booster pump to compensate for the low pressure.

I would also suggest checking to make sure your water filter is installed properly and is not clogged. To determine whether the water filter is significantly slowing the rate of water flow, remove the filter and try dispensing a glass without the filter installed. If the flow improves, then you may need to replace your filter; the replacement filter part number is DA29-00003G or DA29-00003B, which is available through SamsungParts.com as well as most major retailers that carry Samsung refrigerators. Though the water filter does not need to be installed to operate the dispenser and icemaker, a household water filtration system should be used if the filter is not installed. Operating the dispenser and icemaker with unfiltered water can cause clogging and other issues in the water lines.

I hope this helps resolve your issue!

I'm sorry to hear you have frost on your ice cubes. Frost is caused by warm air condensing on cold surfaces, so the goal will be to figure out how warm air is getting into the icebucket. I would suggest dumping out the batch of ice with frost on it, and wiping down the icebucket and walls of the icemaker to remove any frost. Reinsert the bucket, making sure it is locked in place securely. Check the passage to the ice chute for openings that may allow warmer air to enter. Close the left door and look into the refrigerator from the right. Is the left door aligned so there is a relatively airtight connection between the ice bucket and entrance to the chute? If necessary, adjust the leveling of the refrigerator or the height of the door to prevent any gaps that may allow warm air into the bucket. Instructions can be found in the User Manual, which can be downloaded as a pdf file from this website for your convenience.

If the frost returns after you've followed all of these steps, please call 800-SAMSUNG to speak with an agent who will be happy to assist you further in trying to resolve this issue.

For information and availability of Samsung parts and accessories, including the bypass cap for your RFG297AAWP refrigerator, please visit SamsungParts.com or call 800-627-4368 to speak with an agent who can assist you.

When you remove your filter cartridge, you may find that the bypass cap is not necessary, unless you experience some dripping, in which case you may want to order the bypass cap. It is also worth noting that, if you choose to remove the filter from the refrigerator, Samsung recommends using an external filtration system to prevent damage to the water lines that can be caused by mineral deposits and debris in the water.

If your refrigerator appears to be working but it won't cool down, please check to make sure it isn't in "Cooling Off" or "Demo" mode by pressing the Energy Saver and Freezer buttons simultaneously and holding them for 3 seconds. You should hear a chime sound then the compressor should turn on in about 5 minutes and begin producing cold air. If it does not, and you're sure the refrigerator is plugged into a working outlet, then it may require service. The RFG297AARS is a 29 cubic foot capacity French Door with external ice and water, and a host of features that Samsung has become known for: our signature Twin Cooling™ system, JD Power & Associates Overall Customer Satisfaction Award 5-year legacy for refrigerators (2005-2009), EZ-Open Handle™ and CoolSelect Pantry™ drawer with temperature control.

The RFG298AARS has all of this plus our Dual Ice feature which makes almost twice the ice compared to the single-icemaker model. With the RFG298AARS there's less need to worry about running out of ice while you're entertaining. The great news is that both models are Energy Star-rated, so they'll help save money on energy bills, as well.

I'm sorry to hear you're having difficulty installing a new water filter in your RFG297 refrigerator. You should be able to insert the water filter cartridge into the housing and turn it so it locks securely in place. Be sure to remove any packaging materials from both the filter housing and the new cartridge prior to installation. It can sometimes be helpful to turn the water supply valve off in order to alleviate pressure in the lines when removing an old filter or installing a new one. If you are still unable to install the cartridge, and have tried multiple cartridges with the same result, it's possible your filter housing may require service. Please call 800-SAMSUNG to speak with an agent who will be happy to assist you further.

The information for the Energy Saver primarily states that if condensation collects on the door, to then turn it off. What does the energy saver feature actually do, and what is the benefit of turning it on? How does it work in other words?

Thanks!

The RFG297AAWP's Energy Saver button turns off the low-wattage heater that helps to evaporate condensation between the doors. Condensation is more likely to occur in hot and humid climates or seasons. Samsung has given customers the option of turning this heater off to save energy during dryer seasons, like the winter months, or for those who live in dry climates. When Energy Saver is on, the heater is off.

I hope this helps to clarify,
