Why won't magnets stick to my stainless refrig?

Just purchased a RFG297AARS, stainless french door, refrigerator. I tried to put one of the magnets that came off my old refrigerator & it just slides off. Shouldn't the stainless refrigs fronts be magnetic?

Samsung's real Stainless Steel finish is not magnetic. Steel is an alloy (a combination of different types of metals) and there are different grades. If the alloy contains nickel, it usually is not magnetic, and most stainless steel kitchen appliances are made of non-magnetic stainless steel.

I hope this provides clarification for you.

The RFG297AARS uses a cartridge type water filtration system which filters the water for both the dispenser and icemaker. Detailed information about the filter is available on pages 35-36 of the User Manual which can be downloaded through this link: http://www.samsung.com/us/support/d...

Instructions for detaching and reattaching the doors are in the User Manual, which can be downloaded from the product page of this website, as mentioned by another contributor. There is actually an easier way to remove the bottom freezer drawer, however, that does not even require any tools; just follow these steps:
1. Open the freezer drawer and remove the upper "Auto Pull-Out" freezer drawer by lifting it up and pulling it toward you.
2. Locate the white plastic release buttons located toward the rear of the metal freezer drawer railing on both the right and left side.
3. Pull the freezer drawer out while pressing the release buttons (you may need a second person to help with this step). The entire drawer and railing should pull out together.
4. To reassemble, just align and slide the drawer rail back onto the track, being sure to push it in the entire way so the buttons lock back in place, then replace the upper bin, too.

It's true that Samsung's 29 cubic foot French Door refrigerators all have through the door ice and water dispensers. The good news, however, is that the usable space inside the refrigerator is still greater than standard 25 and 26 cubic foot refrigerators. If you prefer the clean look of French Doors without the external ice and water feature, you may want to consider our RF263 or RF266 models. Both have the icemaker in the freezer; the RF266 has an internal water dispenser while the RF263 has no water dispenser.

If the drawer was removed during delivery and installation, then it's possible it was not reassembled properly. I would suggest reviewing the procedure for reattaching the freezer drawer if this is the case (this information is in the User Manual), or contact your installers for assistance. Other troubleshooting tips you can try include adjusting the leveling of the refrigerator to make sure the legs have been leveled properly. Improper leveling could effect the ability of the drawer to ride smoothly on its rail. Another item that could effect the ability of the drawer to close smoothly is that it may not be indexed properly. To correct this, open the drawer about 8", then slam it closed. This should re-index the door rollers. Finally, make sure there are no packages getting in the way of the rails, and there is no frost or ice buildup on the rails which could have been caused by the drawer not being closed completely.

I hope this helps resolve the issue for you. If not, please call 800-SAMSUNG to speak with an agent who can assist you further.

Question

How to engage the flap between the french doors?

The flap on the right door is slightly below the channel that would ensure the flap opens when shutting the door. This result is that the flap does not open and there is a space between the two french doors.

The flap on the RFG297AARS is actually on the left door, and the height of the door can be adjusted so the flap is guided to the open or closed positions, as needed, using the "fasteners" that came with your refrigerator.

I've attached a photo of the fasteners below. Instructions for installing them can be found on page 16 of the User Manual, which can be downloaded from this website. For more significant adjustments to the door height, I would suggest checking to make sure the refrigerator is level. You can do this by placing a carpenter's level on top of the refrigerator, checking both side to side and front to back leveling, and adjusting the front leveling legs as needed. These instructions are also included in the User Manual.

Thank you for the question,

The depth of the RFG297AARS/XAA with the refrigerator doors open is 47-3/4"; the depth with the bottom freezer drawer fully extended is 54-1/2". Please keep in mind that Samsung recommends leaving at least 2" clearance in the rear, as well as 1" above and on each side, to allow sufficient air flow for the cooling system to work properly and most efficiently.

Thank you for the question. The snowflake icon on your control panel indicates Power Freeze has been activated. This feature will run the compressor for an extended period of time, and is helpful for speeding up ice production or for returning the freezer to the set temperature if the doors have been left open or if warmer items have been added, such as after shopping or when storing leftovers. To activate or deactivate Power Freeze, press the Freezer button for about 3 seconds.

A similar option, called Power Cool, is available for the refrigerator; press the Fridge button for 3 seconds to activate or deactivate this option.

The letters "OF" on the display of your RFG297 indicate the Cooling Off mode has been activated. To cancel this mode, press the Energy Saver and Freezer buttons simultaneously for 3 seconds until a chime sounds and a numeric reading returns to the display, allowing you to set the desired temperature. The compressor should turn on in about 5 minutes and begin producing cold air.

Thank you for the question. The filter is designed to last approximately 6 months or 300 gallons. If this volume has been dispensed prior to the 6 month mark, the filter light should change to indicate it is time to replace the filter. Prolonged use of the spent filter can lead to the water tasting bad due to a buildup of impurities, slow dispensing or reduced icemaking capacity.

The filter should be replaced every six months of use. The filter indicator light needs to be manually reset, changing the filter alone does not reset the filter indicator light.

A small amount of frost in the freezer of the RFG297AARS is normal, since each time the drawer is opened, warmer air enters carrying moisture that freezes on the cold surfaces inside the compartment. While Samsung freezers do have heaters in the walls that cycle on periodically to prevent frost build-up, this does not necessarily prevent the moisture from condensing on the packages or plastic bins. To help reduce the amount of frost on packages, keep the drawer closed as much as possible.

I would also suggest reviewing the available troubleshooting articles on this topic; please click the link below, then select "Troubleshooting ► Freezer ► Frost in the Freezer": http://support-us.samsung.com/cyber...

If the door on your RFG297AARS is squeaking, please try leveling the refrigerator side to side to ensure they can open and close properly. If the squeaking continues, apply a small amount of WD40 to the hinge; it may be necessary to remove the hinge cover in order to fully access the hinge to eliminate the squeaking.

Samsung recommends using the internal filtration system to help prevent mineral deposits and debris from damaging the refrigerator's water lines. If your external filtration system is designed to remove such particles effectively, then you should be able to remove the filter cartridge from the refrigerator. If there comes a time when you stop using the external filter, then you should replace the cartridge.

The refrigerator will make a pleasant but loud chime if the freezer drawer is not fully closed. It will do the same if the refrigerator doors are not fully closed as well.

Question

How many inches does the bottom drawer pull out?

How many inches does the bottom drawer slide out to fully opened and how many inches do the french doors open out to at a 90 degree angle. I am trying to fit a free standing refrigerator into a built in area... the frig will stick out 5-6" more than the cabinets. so when doors r open I want to see how much room I will have for clearance or what it will look like etc.
