The letters "OF" on the display of your RF4287HABP indicate the Cooling Off mode has been activated. To cancel this mode, press the Energy Saver and Power Freeze buttons simultaneously for 3 seconds until a chime sounds and a numeric reading returns to the display, allowing you to set the desired temperature. The compressor should turn on in about 5 minutes and begin producing cold air.

Question

How can we stop our new refrigerator from causing a chemical taste to our leftovers, etc?

For over a month now, our new Samsung RF4287HARS refrigerator has been causing our leftovers, butter, etc, to have a strange "styrofoam-like" taste to them. We keep having to throw out otherwise good food. We have tried putting an open box of baking soda inside, but it hasn't helped at all. Help! What is causing the odor and taste, and what can we do??

It isn't unusual for there to be a "plastic" odor in a new refrigerator, and it should dissipate over time. To help speed this up, you can wash the removable shelves and bins in warm, soapy water, and wipe down the interior walls prior to use. Storing food in airtight containers should help prevent them from absorbing residual odors. Placing a box of baking soda or other odor-absorber inside should help, as well.

Thanks for your interest. The RF4287 is 35-3/4" wide and can easily fit through a 36" doorway, if not head-on, then by removing the doors. The instructions can be found in the user manual that comes with the refrigerator, or it can be downloaded from this website in advance for your convenience; click here to download the pdf: http://www.samsung.com/us/support/o...

The RF4287HARS is 29-7/8" deep without the doors and drawers so should fit through your 32" entry without a problem. Please refer to the user manual for instructions to remove the doors and drawers: http://www.samsung.com/us/support/o...

The gas line for the FX510 can come up through the floor. Please refer to the installation guide that comes with the range for specific location instructions, recommendations and specifications. Samsung recommends having a licensed technician install your gas connection.

There are several factors, besides the availability of water, that can effect the ability of an icemaker to produce ice. Please check the following to try to resolve the issue:
- Is your home's water pressure between 20~125 psi? Under normal conditions, a 5.75 oz. glass can be filled in about 10 seconds.
- Is the refrigerator set at the recommended 38°F? If the refrigerator is too cold, the water lines could freeze.
- Is the freezer temperature cold enough? Samsung recommends setting the freezer at -2°F.
- Is the icemaker turned on? Make sure the Ice Off icon is not illuminated on the display.
- Is the feeler arm under the icemaker stuck in the "up" position, which would signal to the icemaker that the bucket is full and to stop making ice.
- Is the control panel locked, which would prevent the dispenser from operating?
- Is the water filter installed properly and locked in place?
- Did you bleed the air from the lines by dispensing 5-6 gallons of water from the dispenser since installing or replacing the filter?
- Did you press the Test button on the icemaker to reset it?

If, after checking each of these suggestions, the icemaker still isn't functioning properly, please submit an online service request through the link below, or call 800-SAMSUNG to speak with an agent who can assist you.

Thank you for the question. It is not unusual for the digital temperature on the display to vary by up to 4 degrees compared to the temperature in the refrigerator or freezer based on a household thermometer temperature reading because:
- Hot air rises, and cold air falls. This can effect the shelf temperatures.
- Opening the door to read the thermometer allows cold air to escape and warm air to enter causing an inaccurate temperature reading.
- Refrigeration thermometers are calibrated differently than regular household thermometers.

That said, if there is a significant difference in the temperature readings inside your refrigerator or freezer compared to the display (greater than + or - 4°F), your refrigerator may require service, and there is no manual means of adjusting the calibration. Samsung recommends leaving 3/8" on top and behind the RF4287HARS as well as 1" on each side to allow for sufficient air flow and ease of installation. If either side is opening into a perpendicular wall or cabinet, they you should leave at least 3-3/4" on that side so the door can be opened at least 90-degrees for full access to the drawers inside.

Question

I would like to get an explanation of how the fruit and vegetable drawer humidity controls work on my Refrigerator.

The fruit and vegetable drawers have high and low humidity controls on them. There is no explanation of what the preferred settings on these would be depending on what varieties of fruit and veggies are stored in there. Could you offer some elaboration on how to use these drawers properly/

Different fruits and vegetables have different storage needs with regard to the humidity level. To give you an example, items like lettuce, spinach and berries prefer high humidity (over 90%), while onions and squash prefer lower relative humidity (under 80%). Since the RF4287 features Samsung's signature Twin Cooling Plus system, which maintains an optimally high humidity level (over 70%) throughout the refrigerator, your produce should last longer compared to conventional systems regardless of the setting on the drawer. The drawer lever can complement the Twin Cooling, however: open the lever for lower humidity-loving fruits and veggies, and close the lever to increase it. A helpful trick to remember which produce loves higher humidity is to think of what items are kept on the sides of the produce aisle in the grocery stores (where they receive frequent "mistings" of water) and which are not.

Question

The size of the cubes that are produced by the RF4287HARS are not actually adjustable, but I would suggest pressing the Test button on the side of the icemaker to reset it, ensuring that the appropriate amount of water is filling the tray. Pressing the button should cause the tray to rotate to harvest its contents then fill with water. If this does not resolve your concern, please call 800-SAMSUNG to speak with an agent who will be happy to assist you further.
