I have confirmed this fridge, and other Samsung fridges, use the integrated heater/evap coils assy. If the heater goes, and it often does, it will be extremely expensive to fix as it will require dismantling, resealing the closed system, then a freon recharge. You will have to hire a professional to do it. It's better to get a new fridge if the evaporator heater breaks.

The handles on the RF267AEWP refrigerator doors can be removed with an allen wrench, but I would recommend removing the doors and freezer drawer instead, in the interest of protecting them during the move.

Instructions for detaching and reattaching the doors are in the User Manual, which can be downloaded from the product page of this website. There is actually an easier way to remove the bottom freezer drawer, however, that does not even require any tools; just follow these steps:
1. Open the freezer drawer and remove the upper "Auto Pull-Out" freezer drawer by lifting it up and pulling it toward you.
2. Locate the white plastic release buttons located toward the rear of the metal freezer drawer railing on both the right and left side.
3. Pull the freezer drawer out while pressing the release buttons (you may need a second person to help with this step). The entire drawer and railing should pull out together.
4. To reassemble, just align and slide the drawer rail back onto the track, being sure to push it in the entire way so the buttons lock back in place, then replace the upper bin, too.

Thank you for considering Samsung!

Yes, the refrigerator door handles can easily be removed and replaced with an allen wrench and the complete bottom freezer assembly easily slides out as described in the Samsung post. I also removed the front door to my house and the refrigerator sans door handles and bottom freezer drawer easily fit through the door opening.

There is only one size icemaker available for the RF267AEWP, and it's the one that comes factory installed.

For additional icemaking capability, perhaps you'd like to consider the RF268ABWP, which has the Dual Ice feature, meaning there is a second icemaker in the freezer compartment. Another option would be to transfer ice from the icemaker in the refrigerator to a second container which could be stored in the freezer. This would enable the icemaker to continue producing ice as long as the bucket is not full.

Everyone can add a larger ice maker for those times it is necessary to any freezer. Buy some good old fashioned ICE CUBE TRAYS, they fit EVERY freezer, they are cheap, and they don't have mechanical failures.

Question

Is my location for my new FR267AEWP unacceptable?

We've had a Kenmore side-by-side for the past 15 years positioned under a 30" wide cabinet with solid 24 " wide wood sides all the way to the floor. The clearance is roughly 1/8" on either side of the frig with 8" clearance to the top and 4 " clearance to the back. Will I have to alter the environment for my new Samsung? If necessary, I could add some vent holes or grillls to the side panels but I'd rather not, the clean appearance of the area will be sacrificed.

Samsung recommends a minimum of 1" on each side of the 35-3/4" wide RF267AEWP to allow sufficient air circulation for the cooling system to work properly and most efficiently. You'll need to decide for yourself whether you're able to make the changes to the space you have available to abide by these recommendations. The top and rear clearance recommendation is 2" for each, so your available space is more than adequate in that regard.

Question

"FILTERED" Water tastes terrible

We've had the refrigerator for two weeks. followed the instructions on running water through the system. Have run more than five gallons so far (instructions say eight cups, which is just one gallon). After running water an extended period, it tastes ok, but after sitting for a few hours it tastes like plastic or bleach. What can I do to get good-tasting water? The line provided fine water for the previous refrigerator. Samsung wouldn't help on the phone. Help!

It is not unusual for the plastic taste from the water lines to be present for a while in new refrigerators, and this should dissipate over time. The initial set up of the refrigerator involves running 5-6 gallons of water to bleed air from the lines, which should also help to dissipate the taste. Besides the water lines, the only other part of the refrigerator which would come in contact with the water is the filter itself. You could determine whether the filter is the cause of the taste by removing it, running water through the dispenser to clear the line, then dispensing a glass to taste it. If the disagreeable taste is gone, then the filter is the cause and you should replace it. Samsung would not recommend operating the water and ice dispenser long-term without the filter since mineral deposits from unfiltered water could clog the lines over time, so if you wish to remove the filter permanently, we would recommend installing an external/household water filtration system.

I hope these suggestions help resolve your issue.

The RF268AB was introduced prior to the RF267AE, though earlier versions of this model (RF267AA and RF267AB) were offered before the RF268. Both models in question exceed the Federal Standard (meaning are "less than") by 25%. For more information on energy use, please refer to the images below, which were pulled from EnergyStar.gov.

The recommended clearance for the RF267AEWP refrigerator is 2" on top, 2" behind, and 1 to 2" on the sides to allow sufficient space for air circulation of the internal cooling system. If the Refrigerator does not have enough space, the internal cooling system may not work properly. If you're installing the refrigerator next to a fixed wall, the minimum clearance is 3-¾” between the refrigerator and the wall to allow the door to swing open.

Question

Coil Ventilation and Maintenance

I have a new RF267AEBP refrigerator. I am doing re-construction in the kitchen to build the refrigerator into a prepared alcove. How much minimum space should I allow in all sides for the coil to breath properly for heat transfer? How do I clean the coil for maximum performance? How do I get to it? Can I obtain wheels for the front, for ease of rolling the refigerator in and out?

Samsung recommends leaving at least 2" above and behind and 1" on each side of the RF267AEBP to allow sufficient air flow for the cooling system to work properly and most efficiently. If either side will open into a wall, then you should allow 3-3/4" on that side for the handle to clear so the door can open 90-degrees.

Since the RF267AEBP coils are fully enclosed, it is not necessary to clean them; however we do recommend vacuuming or dusting the vent area on the lower back of the refrigerator to keep it free of dust and lint. The refrigerator comes on wheels, so if yours does not roll easily forward and back it may be because the leveling legs have been lowered. To raise the leveling legs to expose the front wheels, turn them by inserting a flathead screwdriver into the grooves of the plastic legs.

The difference between the RF266AEWP and RF267AEWP models is the location of the icemaker and water dispenser. The RF266AEWP has an automatic icemaker in the freezer compartment and an internal filtered water dispenser inside the refrigerator. The RF267AEWP uses a compact icemaker within the refrigerator to supply ice to the through-the-door filtered water and ice dispenser.

Both models now feature LED lighting in the freezer and refrigerator compartments and fully-extending Auto Pull-out upper freezer drawers, along with CoolSelect Pantry Drawers, EZ Open Freezer Drawer Handles, Energy Star efficiency, and Samsung's signature Twin Cooling system, to help keep food fresh longer.

It is not unusual to have a small amount of water come out of the ice chute, especially if crushed ice had been dispensed previously. This can happen because the residual fragments of ice remaining in the chute will melt when exposed to warmer air, causing some water to be present in the chute. To prevent this from happening, you could wipe the chute dry periodically with a sponge or soft towel.

If this does not resolve the issue for you, I would suggest reviewing additional suggestions offered in the Troubleshooting Guide. Click the following link to open the Guide, then select "Water And Ice" > "Water Is Leaking" > "Water Is Dripping From The Dispenser": http://support-us.samsung.com/cyber...

The humidity levers on the vegetable crisper bins help to control the humidity, which can help some produce, like lettuce and other greens, to last longer. When the lever is closed, humid air is held within the drawers; when the lever is open, humidity can disperse so the air in the drawers is a bit less humid. In deciding which food should be stored in higher humidity, think about the produce aisles in the grocery store: the produce that's kept in areas that are sprayed with mist are generally the ones that like the humidity!

Keep in mind that Samsung's Twin Cooling System actually keeps a higher humidity level throughout the refrigerator compared to other conventional cooling systems.

Question

Why does my ice maker build up ice on flapper door which controls whether I get crushed or cubed ice?

I can not switch between crushed or cubed ice without removing the ice tray and removing the ice which has formed on the flapper door mechanism which allows cubed ice to fall into a glass. So basically my ice maker gets stuck in cubed mode or crushed mode and will not switch, unless I physically "unstick" the mechanism. Then it will just freeze up again in a day or two??

Question

Loose part in Freezer bottom / Freezer Temperature Set / No Egg Storage Unit

1. Upon close examination of freezer compartment bottom while exploring features I found a part laying at bottom of freezer. It is a straight steel rod 26 11/16" long, of 1/4' cubic cross-section just like the complex curved rod that is at back of pullout freezer drawer. Where is it supposed to go? Unit seems to work fine without it.
2. Freezer temp can only be set to -8 F rather than the instruction booklet -14 F, is this a misprint in booklet or is there problem with temperature setting unit?
3. I received a silly-useless wine bottle U-shaped rack rather than the advertised egg storage unit which I could use and find actually useful. Can I purchase one from Samsung, and if so HOW?

Otherwise the product seems EXCELLENT and we are very happy with it.

Thank you for the questions. The black bar in your freezer is the index roller, which can be fixed by following the instructions in the online Troubleshooting Guide. Follow the link below, then select "How To" > "Metal Black Rod Lying In The Bottom Of My Freezer": http://support-us.samsung.com/cyber...

For assistance with the temperature and the missing egg container, please call 800-SAMSUNG to speak with an agent who will be happy to assist you further. Incidentally, the wine rack can also be used to store 2-liter soda bottles; perhaps it would be more useful to you with that purpose in mind.

Samsung does not have an official recommendation one way or another when it comes to the use of surge protectors. If you live in an area that is prone to power outages and surges, I would suggest contacting your local power company, appliance retailer or electrician for help determining if you would benefit from using a surge protector for your refrigerator. If you do, please be sure to select a surge protector that is rated appropriately for your product's electrical rating. The RF267AEWP is rated for 115 volts, 60 Hz and 11.6 amps.
