Question

Should the icemaker stop producing when container is full?

It seems our icemaker is not turning itself off when the tray/bucket is full.
Looking at the manual it is not clear whether it should shut off or not. Is there a mechanism which is supposed to turn it off once the tray gets full ? Right now it seems to overfill and ice slides off the back and down into the bottom of the freezer.

Yes, the ice maker has a sensor that "sees" when the ice bucket is full, and will stop ice production until more ice is needed.

I'm sorry to hear you're having this issue. The icemaker should shut off automatically when the bucket is full enough to push against a plastic lever that hangs just below the icemaker. Please follow this link to see a picture of the icemaker and lever: http://ars.samsung.com/customer/usa...

If, after reviewing this link, you continue to have this problem, please contact 800-SAMSUNG for additional assistance, or submit an online service request through this link: http://www.samsung.com/us/support/o...

Question

Stainless vs. Platinum

I'm trying to decide between RF266AERS and RF266AEPN. One if Stainless Steel and one is Platinum.

Can anyone offer advice assuming price not a factor?

I don't want to purchase one and regret it and wishing I'd purchased the other.

How bad are the fingerprints on SS?

Does the Platinum scratch or dent more easily?

Does anyone have a dent or scratch issue with either model?

PLEASE HELP!!!!

Ok, I got the stainless platinum in April. My model # is RF263AEPN.

The stainless platinum only has the stainless ONLY on the front door.
The stainless is stainless on ALL sides. (Not sure of the back, didn't check, sorry).

If your appliance is going somewhere like a dishwasher, somewhere it covers all sides except the front, I wouldn't waste money on Stainless on all sides.

We have stainless and stainless platinum in different appliances. You can't tell which is which to be honest. Both are easily cleaned with Lysol wipes. I use the Lysol Dual Action Disinfecting wipes. But I only use the wiping side & NOT thee scrubbing side. It cleans the appliances, gets off greasey hand prints from hubby, & kills the germs from the little hands. There are no smears, looks clean like I bought it.

Have NOT noticed any scratch or dents with our appliances yet (hope not to). But currently not dents or scratches in either.

Hope this helps. Good luck.

There are several differences between Real Stainless Steel and Samsung's Stainless Platinum. The key difference that many people note is that Real Stainless Steel is usually not magnetic, so if you like to hang photos and kids' artwork on your refrigerator, you might want to choose the Stainless Platinum finish because it is magnetic. Stainless Platinum is also fingerprint-resistant and very easy to care for, while Real Stainless often requires extra effort to prevent and remove fingerprints. Only you can determine whether or not fingerprints would be an issue in your home.

Some people prefer the look of Real Stainless, however, especially if the refrigerator is going to be placed right next to another Real Stainless appliance, such as the range or dishwasher. Samsung does not currently make other appliances in the Stainless Platinum finish. It's worth mentioning, though, that many customers have still chosen to mix a Stainless Platinum refrigerator with other Real Stainless appliances because of the benefits the Stainless Platinum finish offers.

Regarding durability, the Stainless Platinum finish has a protective coating that the Real Stainless does not. If a scratch or dent does occur, it would be easier to either fill or cover up with a magnet on Stainless Platinum, since there is really no way of "fixing" a scratch or dent on Stainless Steel.

Ultimately, it comes down to personal preference and judging for yourself what would work best in your home, since both look great.

I hope this helps, and thank you for your interest in Samsung!

There are several factors that can effect the ability of an icemaker to produce ice, including water supply, freezer and refrigerator temperatures, and control panel functions. There is a Test button located on the bottom of the icemaker. Pressing it should cause the tray to rotate then fill with water. If it does not fill with water, please check the water filter to make sure it is installed properly. If the filter was changed recently, try bleeding air from the lines by dispensing 5-6 gallons of water through the internal dispenser. If the filter has not been changed for a while, it may be time to since a clogged or partially clogged filter can prevent the icemaker from producing ice.

Other factors to consider include:
- Is your home's water pressure between 20~125 psi? Under normal conditions, a 5.75 oz. glass can be filled in about 10 seconds.
- Is the refrigerator set at the recommended 38°F? If the refrigerator is too cold, the water lines could freeze.
- Is the feeler arm under the icemaker stuck in the "up" position, which would signal to the icemaker that the bucket is full and to stop making ice.

If, after checking each of these suggestions, the icemaker still isn't functioning properly, please submit an online service request through the link below, or call 800-SAMSUNG to speak with an agent who can assist you.

The RF266AERS is designed to produce approximately 4 pounds of ice per day under ideal conditions. Production may vary depending on freezer compartment temperature, room temperature, number of door openings and other factors, so if yours is making less than this, I would suggest checking the following:
- The recommended temperatures for the refrigerator and freezer compartments are 38°F and -2°F, respectively. If the freezer temperature is set higher than this, it could effect ice production. If the refrigerator is too cold, the water lines could freeze.
- Is something pressing against the lever that detects when the ice bin is full? The icemaker will not produce ice if it detects a full bin.
- Have you tried pressing the Test button on the bottom of the icemaker to reset it?
- Have you replaced your water filter recently? A clogged or partially clogged filter can slow water flow and effect ice production. After replacing the filter, be sure to dispense up to 6 gallons of water to bleed air from the lines.
- Is your home's water pressure sufficient? In order for the ice maker to operate properly, water pressure of 20~125 psi is required. Under normal conditions, a 6 oz glass can be filled in about 10 seconds. If the Refrigerator is installed in an area with low water pressure (below 20psi), you may be able to install a booster pump to compensate for the low pressure.
- The Power Freeze feature can help increase ice production by running the compressor for an extended period of time.

I hope these suggestions help to increase your ice production.

Question

Sides of the RF266AERS

A previously posted answer said that the sides of the RF266AERS were stainless steel and when I called the Samsung toll free number, they said the same thing. I saw the model on the floor at best buy and the sides were the same gray as all the other floor models and not the stainless steel like the doors. Are the sides stainless steel like the doors or not?

There are several factors, besides checking the feeler arm, that can effect the ability of an icemaker to produce ice, including water supply, freezer and refrigerator temperatures, and control panel functions. Please check the following to try to resolve the issue:
- Is the water connected, the valve turned on and hoses unkinked and free of obstruction?
- Is your home's water pressure between 20~125 psi? Under normal conditions, a 5.75 oz. glass can be filled in about 10 seconds.
- Is the refrigerator set at the recommended 38°F? If the refrigerator is too cold, the water lines could freeze.
- Is the freezer temperature cold enough? Samsung recommends setting the freezer at -2°F.
- Is the icemaker turned on? Make sure the Ice Off icon is not illuminated on the display.
- Is the water filter installed properly and locked in place?
- Did you bleed the air from the lines by dispensing 5-6 gallons of water from the dispenser since installing or replacing the filter?
- Did you press the Test button on the icemaker to reset it?

If none of the above suggestions helps to resolve the issue, and the ice tray does not fill with water, try removing the water filter temporarily and press the test button on the icemaker again. If the tray fills without a filter installed, then the cartridge is likely clogged or partially clogged and should be replaced. The filter should be replaced about every 6 months based on average usage, but it could become clogged sooner if there are a lot of impurities in the water supply.

If, after checking each of these suggestions, the icemaker still isn't functioning properly, please submit an online service request through the link below, or call 800-SAMSUNG to speak with an agent who can assist you.

I would prefer not to connect the water line to the refrigerator; but instead, make ice the old-fashion way--on ice trays placed in the freezer. As for drinking water, I am fine with the water available through a filtered water dispenser I already own.

Do you have any recommendations on how best to adjust the refrigerator controls for my desired setup?

The RF266AERS can be used without connecting a water line. I would suggest pressing the ICE OFF button on the far left side of the control panel, located on the top edge of the refrigerator cabinet. This will disengage the icemaker which would otherwise make noise as it attempts to draw water to fill the ice trays.

Question

We purchased RF266AERS refrigerator and see a difference between store model and your website specs

The store models all show that this model has LED lighting. When I go to your website the specs for this model say it has an interior light that is 60W*2EA with no mention of LED lighting.

I am concerned that the unit we receive will not have the LED lights that were a big reason for our purchasing this model.

When we get printouts of this model from some retailers it shows that it has LED lighting and other stores (including the one where we made our purchase show printouts from your site that say it has the lightbulbs.

Please clarify this difference and let me know what I can expect to receive when I get the model RF266AERS delivered.

Thanks

Thank you for the question, and for choosing Samsung. The RF266AERS does indeed have LED lighting in the refrigerator, which was one of the key upgrades from the earlier RF266ABRS version of this model series.

The depth of the RF266AERS without the doors or freezer drawer is 29-1/8", so it should be able to fit through your 30" doorway.

Instructions for detaching and reattaching the doors are in the User Manual, which can be downloaded from this website. There is actually an easier way to remove the bottom freezer drawer that does not even require any tools; just follow these steps:
1. Open the freezer drawer and remove the upper "Auto Pull-Out" freezer drawer by lifting it up and pulling it toward you.
2. Locate the white plastic release buttons located toward the rear of the metal freezer drawer railing on both the right and left side.
3. Pull the freezer drawer out while pressing the release buttons (you may need a second person to help with this step). The entire drawer and railing should pull out together.
4. To reassemble, just align and slide the drawer rail back onto the track, being sure to push it in the entire way so the buttons lock back in place, then replace the upper bin, too.

Question

Lighting and Rebates

The lighting on the RF266AERS -- is that the same lighting as the model with 2 drawers on the bottom and french door style? It had a blueish lighting inside?
Also are there any rebates currently avail for this refrig and where do you find them?

The RF266AERS does have LED lighting, similar to the 4-door RF4287 model. Some people do describe LED lighting as having a "blueish" hue.

Please click on the link below to help locate current rebates in your area. Since there may be other rebates available, I would suggest contacting your local appliance dealer for additional suggestions, or check EnergyStar.gov for more information.

Rebates: http://www.samsung.com/us/rebate/iS...

Samsung does occasionally run promotions which may be advertised on this website, so you may want to check the refrigerator home page for the latest promotions: http://www.samsung.com/us/consumer/...

Question

How best to get this monster in the house?

Because of the way our house is situated (i.e. on a hillside), the only available exterior door to get this refrigerator (which has been delivered and is currently in the garage) into the house is the front door. However, this house is old (built in 1928) and the doors tend to be small. The width of the front door (35") will not accommodate this refrigerator without some disassembly of the refrig. Taking off the front door to the house won't help. So it appears that we will have to either take off the refrig doors and remove the freezer drawer OR take off the refrig handles. My question is: which is simpler? taking off the doors and removing the freezer drawer OR taking off the handles?

Thanks!

This task is about a week away.

Thank you for the question. While the doors, drawer and handles can all be removed to fit the RF266AERS through a doorway as narrow as 30-31", the simplest method is to remove the handles on the refrigerator doors and the drawer-front on the freezer.

Instructions for both can be found through the following link: http://support-us.samsung.com/cyber... Once the Troubleshooting Guide opens, select "How To" > "Removing the Doors" for the different options.
