Thank you for the question. It's normal for the fans to stop turning when the doors are opened, and this and other sounds the refrigerator makes can sometimes be minimized by properly leveling the refrigerator, as explained in the user manual. However, if it sounds as though the fan is hitting something when the door is closed, then your refrigerator may require service.

To initiate the service process, please submit an online service request through the link below, or call 800-SAMSUNG to speak with an agent who will be happy to assist you.

We had this problem. The repairman found that a sensor had been installed in the wrong place and ice had built up all through the back of the refrigerator. He had to thaw it and install another sensor in the correct place. MAJOR problem. Yours may not be caused by the same thing, but that's what caused our loud fan noise.

answer 2
The recommended clearance for the RF263AEWP refrigerator is 2" on top, 2" behind, and 1 to 2" on the sides to allow sufficient space for air circulation of the internal cooling system. If the Refrigerator does not have enough space, the internal cooling system may not work properly. If you're installing the refrigerator next to a fixed wall, the minimum clearance is 3-¾” between the refrigerator and the wall to allow the door to swing open.

Freezer Drawer Rollers Noisy

The upper tray that holds the ice and other small items makes noise as soon as it starts rolling towards the front of the freezer door when opening. It sounds like the roller system. What can we do to stop this? It is annoying.

It's difficult to determine from your question whether the upper freezer drawer is operating normally or not. Since the rollers are mechanical, and plastic-on-plastic, some noise is normal. In addition, is it possible that there are items stored in the bin which are making some noise as the bin is moved?

I would suggest visiting a store that has this unit, or one similar, on display to determine if your freezer drawer is operating normally. If, after doing so, you believe the noise is not normal, please contact 800-SAMSUNG to speak with an agent who will be happy to assist you.

The RF263AEWP uses a cartridge type water filter, the housing for which is located in the upper right rear of the refrigerator compartment. Your new refrigerator should have come with a brand new filter which would have been packaged with the shelves and bins inside the refrigerator. Replacement filters (model #DA29-00003G) can be purchased at most major retailers that carry Samsung refrigerators, through SamsungParts.com or by calling 800-627-4368.

If the icemaker in your RF263AEWP is not making ice after replacing the filter, please try the following:
- Set the refrigerator at the recommended 38°F to help prevent the water lines from freezing.
- Set the freezer at -2°F or lower, or select the Power Freeze option on the control panel.
- Make sure the Ice Off icon is not illuminated on the display.
- Check the feeler arm under the icemaker; if it is stuck in the "up" position, it may be signalling to the icemaker to stop making ice because the bucket is full.
- Press the Test/Reset button on the bottom of the icemaker. It may be necessary to press it more than once to bleed air from the lines.

If, after checking each of these suggestions, the icemaker still isn't functioning properly, please submit an online service request through the link below, or call 800-SAMSUNG to speak with an agent who can assist you.

Our ice maker stopped working about a year after we got the fridge. We didn't bother to call a repairman, because we still do have some old-fashioned ice cube trays. We made do. Then we had a power outage. When the power came back on, so did the ice maker. It's been fine ever since.

Just turning everything 'off' didn't work, but unplugging for thirty minutes or so might do it for you. Good luck!

The icemaker in the RF263AEWP should produce 7 cubes per cycle, and about 133 cubes per day. To speed up production, try selecting the Power Freeze option on the control panel. Leaving Power Freeze on will consume more energy, so once you've accumulated enough ice, just press the Power Freeze button again to turn it off.

Question

interior LED light -- ability to turn it off or remove?

For the Sabbath, I need to make certain that my refrigerator lights do not turn on when I open the refrigerator door. What can I do if I purchase RF263AEWP? Can I temporarily remove or arrest the LED light? Are there any other lights that would go on when I open the door that I would need to arrest?

This product looks great -- the size inside, the bottom freeze with french doors without the water dispenser taking up room -- but I need to make certain I can use it all 7 days of the week.
Please advise.
Or if this product will not work for me, then please suggest a comparable product of yours.
Thank you.

There is a way to "trick" Samsung French Door refrigerators, including the RF263AEWP, into thinking the doors are closed when they're not, which will cause the lights inside the refrigerator to remain off even when the doors are open. Here's how: 1) Find the two locations on the top of the plastic piece above the front of the refrigerator where the word 'switch' is embossed in raised letters. 2) Tape magnets just below these two locations, on the front of the plastic cover. Once both magnets are placed correctly, the lights will turn off. 3) The freezer lights are controlled by a button that gets compressed when the drawer is closed. The button is located on the left side of the freezer wall. Simply tape the button down during the Sabbath, and the lights will remain off.

It is important to note that if the refrigerator thinks the doors are closed when in fact they are open, the fan may come on with the door open and dissipate all the cold air from inside the unit. The magnets should be removed when Sabbath is over.

To help speed up ice production, make sure the freezer temperature is set to -2°F or lower, and select the Power Freeze option. If the ice piles up in the collection bin enough to trigger the sensor lever, the icemaker will turn off. Spreading the ice evenly throughout the bin will enable the icemaker to keep producing ice until the bucket is actually full.

The RF263 measures 35-3/4" wide, and Samsung recommends leaving at least 1" on each side of the refrigerator to allow the cooling system to work properly and most efficiently, so you should ideally have 37-3/4" in available width. Other key clearance dimensions include 68-5/8" case height (behind hinges) plus 2" clearance above, and 29-1/8" case depth, with 2" clearance behind the unit, as well.

Thank you for the question. To increase ice production above the 133 cube per day level, activate the Power Freeze option by pressing the button on the control panel. This should shorten the cycle time from about 90 to 55 minutes. Once the ice bin is full, transfer the ice to another storage container to avoid the bin filling up and triggering the lever above it which would cause the icemaker to cease making ice.

I'm sorry to hear the alarm is continuing to sound. The door alarm may sound despite the doors being closed if the wiring harness has come undone, or if the wiring was not reconnected properly after the doors were removed for installation, if this was the case in your situation.

Please follow the User Manual instructions for removing the hinge cover on your doors and reattaching the wires. The Manual can be downloaded as a pdf file from this website for your convenience. If the alarm continues to sound after checking the wiring harness, please call 800-SAMSUNG to speak with an agent who can assist you further.

Question

Bought Model RF266AEWP French-door bottom freezer. The ice cubes freeze into a solid mass. There is a 7 inch white wire

There is a 7 inch white wire with a soft rubber 3/4 inch long, 1/4 inch diameter tip hanging from the ice maker into the ice cube tray. Is this the ice sensor? Is this wire supposed to be hanging down like this? Is there a way to keep the cubes from freezing together? I find nothing in the user manual about this.

I'm sorry to hear you're having an issue with your RF263AEWP. I can't tell from your question what kind of symptoms you're experiencing, so I would suggest you refer to your User Manual to make sure it is set up properly. If the refrigerator is not cooling, make sure it is not in "cooling off" mode, which would be indicated by the letters "OF" being displayed in the temperature controls. This mode can be activated and deactivated by pressing the Power Freeze and Freezer buttons simultaneously for at least 3 seconds until a chime sounds and the display changes to numbers.

If this does not resolve the issue, please call 800-SAMSUNG to speak with an agent who will be happy to assist you further.

Both the refrigerator doors and the freezer drawer can be removed from the RF263 and RF266 so you can fit through a doorway as narrow as 30". Instructions for detaching and reattaching the doors are in the User Manuals, which can be downloaded from the product pages of this website. There is actually an easier way to remove the bottom freezer drawer, however, that does not even require any tools; just follow these steps:
1. Open the freezer drawer and remove the upper "Auto Pull-Out" freezer drawer by lifting it up and pulling it toward you.
2. Locate the white plastic release buttons located toward the rear of the metal freezer drawer railing on both the right and left side.
3. Pull the freezer drawer out while pressing the release buttons (you may need a second person to help with this step). The entire drawer and railing should pull out together.
4. To reassemble, just align and slide the drawer rail back onto the track, being sure to push it in the entire way so the buttons lock back in place, then replace the upper bin, too.

Regarding your question about the difference between the two models, the RF266 has an internal water dispenser, located on the left wall of the refrigerator compartment just inside the door, which dispenses filtered water. The RF263 has no water dispenser, but both units have built-in automatic icemakers in the freezer compartments, which also use filtered water.

Question

Why is our refrigerator not cooling very well? Model #RF263AEWP

We have loved our new Samsung fridge since we got it in March this year. However, lately I noticed that things weren't keeping as long as they should. I got out our digital freezer thermometer and took some temperature readings. The fridge was set at 38 degrees. Nowhere inside was it that cool. In fact, I couldn't find a temperature under 45, except for the pantry drawer set at "chilled". It registered 37.9, which is still warmer than what the book says it should be. Turning down the temperature to 34 didn't seem to help any. Is there something I can try to fix this, or do we need to call a repairman?

I can answer my own question. Looking at everything more closely, we discovered that we had inadvertently blocked up the vents at the back on the top shelf. When the obstruction was removed, the fridge returned to working perfectly. Samsung, you might want to add "checking to make sure the vents are clear" to your list of things to check in case somebody else has this problem. It might also help to have the exact location of said vents pictured in your literature.

Thanks for a great product!
