Stainless Platinum is Samsung's fingerprint-resistant finish that resembles real stainless steel. Many people find that Stainless Platinum is easier to keep clean than real stainless. In addition, customers who like to display photos or kids' artwork on their refrigerators may prefer Stainless Platinum which is magnetic while most real stainless is not. If you are trying to match other real stainless steel appliances, you may want to visit a retailer near you that has a Samsung refrigerator in Stainless Platinum on display, so you can see if it fits your needs. Thank you for your interest in Samsung!

Stainless platinum is different from the stainless. The stainless is stainless on ALL sides of the frig. The platinum is stainless only in the front. the sides look like the similar color of stainless (but not stainless).

So if your frig is going in a location that will only show the front, you will save money with the platinum.

Any magnet does not interfere with the operation of any appliance. The only damage it can do, is if someone or something (like a chair) is pressed against it like scratching it.

Decorative magnets are safe to use on the surface of the RF263AEPN. In fact, one of the greatest benefits of the Stainless Platinum finish, besides being fingerprint-resistant, is that it's magnetic!

Your RF263AEPN should produce approximately 100 cubes in a 24-hour period, depending on freezer compartment temperature, room temperature, number of door openings and other use conditions. If yours is making less than this, there are several factors that could be contributing. I would suggest checking the following:
1. The recommended temperatures for the refrigerator and freezer compartments are 38°F and -2°F, respectively. If the freezer temperature is set higher than this, it could effect ice production.
2. Is the icemaker turned off? If so, press the "Ice Off" button on the control panel to turn the icemaker back on.
3. Is something pressing against the lever that detects when the ice bin is full? The icemaker will not produce ice if it detects a full bin.
4. Have you tried pressing the icemaker reset/test button, as shown on page 18 of the User Manual?
5. The Power Freeze feature can help increase ice production by running the compressor for an extended period of time. Though the Power Freeze function does use a bit more energy, since this refrigerator is very energy efficient to begin with, this may be a useful feature for you to employ given your need for more ice.
6. Is your home's water pressure at the recommended 20-125 psi?

I hope these suggestions help to increase your ice production. If not, please call 800-SAMSUNG to speak with an agent who will be happy to assist you further.

Lower the freezer temperature for quicker freezing (the lowest setting will produce ice the quickest). Check the ice cube size. If the ice cubes are smaller than normal, check the water supply pressure (it may be too low to sufficiently fill the icemaker tray), check for restrictions in the water supply line and ensure that the water filter doesn't need to be changed. If you regularly use a large quantity of ice (greater than about 4 lbs. per day), you may be using more than the icemaker is capable of producing. Using the power freeze option will temporarily increase ice production.

Sorry, I have not been able to find just a picture of the freezer. They are basically simple thou. Once you open the drawer, there are 2 drawers (1 top 1 bottom). The top one is a little smaller, but in this frig, there is nothing small. The bottom drawer is way larger than the top.

After getting our groceries, I still look at our frig (this particular model, and wonder if we got enough groceries.

If you really need to see, its best to go to an appliance store near you that carries the samsung brand. The white or black have the same drawer.

Good luck.

There is no "manufacturer's certificate statement" that I am aware of. I would suggest checking with your tax advisor or the IRS to find out who is supposed to furnish the certificate they're looking for. It's very possible that they would look to www.energystar.gov for "official" energy use information, as shown in the image below of the RF268's Energy Star rating and usage.

The water filter in your RF263AEPN should be replaced when the filter indicator light turns red, which will occur at approximately 6 months of use. The color change to pink from blue is an indication that you've reached the 5-month mark, so should prepare to change the filter in another month.

Question

Do you have a model with icemaker but no water filter?

Dont need the internal water dispenser, dont need the water filter system. Need only the icemaker.

I like the RF263AEPN model compared to RF266AEPN because it doesnt have the internal water dispenser on the left side. But it still has the water filter. I dont use much ice and dont care for the water filter.
1> Is there a model without the water filter?
2> If not, is it ok to ignore the filter replacement light and continue using the ice maker with unfiltered water (does it cause problems with the ice maker if I skip the filter?) Can I just remove the filter and continue using the ice maker?

Thanks for the prompt responses in helping me decide which model to buy!

The RF263AEPN, and most other Samsung refrigerators, can be used without the water filter. If you do not wish to use the filter, you should remove the cartridge, since an overused cartridge (one left in place after the filter light indicates it is time to change it) can lead to slow ice tray fill times and reduced ice production. It is important to note, however, that Samsung does recommend having an external household filtration system in place if the internal filter is not being used to help prevent debris and mineral buildup which can damage the water lines.

Samsung does have two French Door models available which do not have internal water filters, the RF197 and RF217, but these models are narrower (32-1/4" wide) and thus have smaller capacities (18 and 20 cubic feet, respectively).

Another option which is available to you if you do not need to use the automatic icemaker is the "Ice Off" feature which deactivates the icemaker function when it is not in use.

There is a way to "trick" some Samsung refrigerators, including the RF263AEPN, into thinking the doors are closed when they're not, which will cause the lights inside the refrigerator to remain off even when the doors are open. Here's how: 1) Find the two locations on the top of the plastic piece above the front of the refrigerator where the word 'switch' is embossed in raised letters. 2) Tape magnets just below these two locations, on the front of the plastic cover. Once both magnets are placed correctly, the lights will turn off. 3) The freezer lights are controlled by a button that gets compressed when the drawer is closed. The button is located on the left side of the freezer wall. Simply tape the button down during the Sabbath, and the lights will remain off. It is important to note that if the refrigerator thinks the doors are closed when in fact they are open, the fan may come on with the door open and dissipate all the cold air from inside the unit. The magnets should be removed when Sabbath is over.

The RF263AEPN has a factory-installed tube running from the back of the refrigerator. This is the water connection for the icemaker, which will need to be hooked up to your household water supply using a water line installation kit. The installation kit can be purchased separately through your local appliance, home improvement, or hardware store.

The Stainless Platinum finish on your RF263AEPN is actually a coating over a painted finish, which resembles real stainless but is fingerprint-resistant and easily cleaned with soap and water or a mild detergent such as glass cleaner. Samsung recommends against spraying any liquid directly on the surface of the refrigerator, so I would suggest applying the cleaner to a soft towel, sponge or rag first, then wiping the refrigerator clean.

I am not aware of any sure-fire method of removing scratches, but would suggest contacting your local appliance retailer, hardware or home improvement store for their recommendation.

The RF263 has front leveling legs which can be raised or lowered somewhat. The minimum height of the refrigerator is 68-5/8" behind the hinges, and 69-3/4" with the hinges, and Samsung recommends leaving at least 2" above the unit (as well as 1" on each side and 2" behind) to allow sufficient air flow for the cooling system to work properly and most efficiently.

Yes, the digital controls on the RF263 do turn off when the door is closed. There is a way to "trick" Samsung French Door refrigerators into thinking the doors are closed when they're not, which will cause the lights inside the refrigerator and the controls to remain off even when the doors are open. To do this, tape two magnets on the front of the plastic cover, one to the immediate right of the left door closing "hook", and one to the immediate left of the right "hook" (see attached picture, ignoring the fact that a different model is shown). Once both magnets are placed correctly, the lights will turn off. It is important to note that if the refrigerator thinks the doors are closed when in fact they are open, the fan may come on with the door open and dissipate the cold air from inside the unit. Samsung does not recommend using this "trick" for long periods of time.

The RF263AEPN should produce approximately 4 pounds of ice per day under ideal conditions, though production may vary depending on freezer compartment temperature, room temperature, number of door openings and other factors. If yours is making less than this, there are several things that could be contributing. I would suggest checking the following:
- The recommended temperatures for the refrigerator and freezer compartments are 38°F and -2°F, respectively. If the freezer temperature is set higher than this, it could effect ice production. If the refrigerator is too cold, the water lines could freeze.
- Is something pressing against the lever that detects when the ice bin is full? The icemaker will not produce ice if it detects a full bin.
- Have you tried pressing the Test button on the bottom of the icemaker to reset it?
- After replacing the filter, it may be necessary to press the Test button more than once to bleed air from the lines.
- Is your home's water pressure sufficient? In order for the ice maker to operate properly, water pressure of 20~125 psi is required. If the refrigerator is installed in an area with low water pressure (below 20psi), you may be able to install a booster pump to compensate for the low pressure.
- The Power Freeze feature can help increase ice production by running the compressor for an extended period of time.

I hope these suggestions help to increase your ice production.

If you do not plan to use the icemaker or connect the RF263 to water, then it is not necessary to install the filter. However, I would suggest turning the icemaker function off by pressing the Ice Off button. This will help to prevent the icemaker from making noise while attempting to draw water to make ice.

If you do choose to connect the refrigerator to water to make ice in the future, Samsung recommends using a water filtration system or the internal filter to help prevent mineral deposits in the water from clogging the lines.

The RF263AEPN has an automatic icemaker in the freezer, but this model does not have a water dispenser. If you're interested in a model with an internal water dispenser, you may want to consider the RF266AEPN, which has both the one-touch water dispenser inside the refrigerator as well as the automatic icemaker in the freezer.

Question

How much ice should this RF263AEPN make each day?

I purchased a new RF263AEPN refigerator several weeks ago and I love everything about it except the ice maker is very very slow ....

I have replaced both the water filter and the supply line, but is still seems very slow.

How much ice should this refrigerator make each day?

How often should it produce a batch of ice?

The RF263AEPN should make approximately 4 pounds of ice per day, with a batch of ice being produced every 90 minutes under ideal conditions. There are a number of factors that can cause ice production to slow down, including the freezer drawer being opened, which allows warm air in and cold air out. To help increase ice production, be sure the freezer temperature is set to -2°F or lower, press the Power Freeze button on the control panel, and minimize the frequency and duration of time which the drawer is opened.
