This is to keep what ever you would like in. If you have a large tray of meat, cheese, and or fruit it fits perfecty. If you want to keep your meats there (or whatever), you can customise the temperature for what you would like to keep there.

The RF263AEBP's Cool Select Pantry Drawer is an independently-controlled drawer within the refrigerator compartment which provides ideal temperature settings for "Fresh", "Deli" and "Chilled" options. Since the drawer is the full width of the refrigerator's interior, it can easily accommodate wide items like sheet cakes and deli platters.

Though Samsung recommends using the internal water filter on the RF263AEBP to prevent mineral deposits from clogging the water lines and damaging the unit, it is not necessary to do so if you use an equally effective whole house filtration system. The water line to the automatic icemaker should function without a filter installed, and a bypass cap should not be necessary. However, if you prefer to use the bypass cap, and cannot find the one that came with your unit, then you could order a replacement from SamsungParts.com or by calling 800-627-4368.

As Ms. Samsung has said, this is not recommended.

The aforementioned need for a "bypass cap" depends on the model's year.

Thank you for contacting Samsung.

If you did not change the water filter, it would eventually get clogged and you begin to notice water pressure loss and lower ice production. Eventually, water from the dispenser would cease and ice production would stop altogether. That being said, your refrigerator can be used without the water filter if you so choose.

But, we do recommend you use the water filter. If you ever wish to order a new water filter, you can do so via our parts supplier below.

Contaminants come in sizes just like shoes, beads and fountain drinks. A drinking water filter is designed to capture certain sizes of contaminants. This means a filter may not be designed to capture all of them and the ones they do capture can build up in the filter over time. The purpose of a drinking water filter is to remove contaminants before they are ingested. Not changing a filter often enough will alter the quality of water received.

While it is possible to remove all 3 handles to fit through a smaller doorway, I would recommend removing the doors instead. The handles, especially the EZ Open freezer drawer handle, is actually more difficult to remove and reassemble, and removing the doors can help to avoid damage from scuffs and scratches. For instructions on removing the doors and drawer, please refer to the User Manual which can be downloaded as a pdf file from this website for your convenience.

The depth of the RF263AEBP without the handles is 33"; the depth without the doors is 29-1/8".

I'm sorry to hear the icemaker does not appear to be working in your RF263AEBP. There are several factors that can effect the ability of an icemaker to produce ice, including water supply, freezer and refrigerator temperatures, and control panel functions. Please check the following to try to resolve the issue:
- Is the water connected, the valve turned on and hoses unkinked and free of obstruction?
- Is your home's water pressure between 20~125 psi?
- Is the refrigerator set at the recommended 38°F? If the refrigerator is too cold, the water lines could freeze.
- Is the freezer temperature cold enough? Samsung recommends setting the freezer at -2°F.
- Is the icemaker turned off? The icemaker can be turned on or off by pressing the Ice Off button on the control panel. Make sure the Ice Off icon is not illuminated on the display.
- Is the feeler arm under the icemaker stuck in the "up" position, which would signal to the icemaker that the bucket is full and to stop making ice.
- Is the water filter installed properly and locked in place?
- Did you press the Test button on the bottom of the icemaker which should cause the tray to rotate then fill with water? It may be necessary to press it more than once when the water is first connected or when the filter is changed in order to bleed air from the lines.

If none of the above suggestions helps to resolve the issue, and the ice tray does not fill with water, try removing the water filter temporarily and press the test button on the icemaker again. If the tray fills without a filter installed, then the cartridge is likely clogged or partially clogged and should be replaced.

If, after checking each of these suggestions, the icemaker still isn't functioning properly, please submit an online service request through the link below, or call 800-SAMSUNG to speak with an agent who can assist you.

Have you waited at least 12 hours since installation? If not then you need to be patient cuz it may take a while! Also there is a button on the ice maker that says "Test Switch" push that and it wil get it started!

Thanks for the question. It isn't unusual for some of the cubes to break as they're ejected from the tray, especially if the ice bin is empty since they may break when they hit the plastic bin. If your freezer temperature is set very low, the ice may be particularly brittle, as well. Try adjusting the temperature, if necessary, to the recommended -2°F. It may also help to reset the icemaker by pressing the Test button on the bottom; this should cause the tray to rotate and dump its contents then fill with the appropriate amount of water.

You setting is set to crushed ice. At the top of the device are keys you can use to change the ice content to solid ice or crushed. Open the left side of the french doors and look at the top display panel. You have three choices available of which one is to stop the production of ice altogether.

To reset the water filter indicator light in the RF263, press the Fridge and Power Cool buttons until the light turns blue, indicating the filter is new. The light should turn pink after about 5 months, and red at 6 months when it's time to change the filter again.

answer 2
Your refrigerator is equipped with a water filter indicator light. The indicator light is normally blue. If your indicator light changes color to either purple, or red, it is time to replace your water filter. Once you have replaced the water filter, reset the water filter light.

Note: The indicator light will change after 6 months or 400 gallons of water have been used. This is just to notify you that your filter may need to be changed soon. You know it is time to change the filter when you notice water pressure from your dispenser and ice production slowing.

To reset the water filter indicator light follow these steps:
Locate the button on your display panel with the words "Hold 3 sec for filter reset" printed on it.

Press and hold the button (usually Alarm, Energy Saver, or Water button) until the light changes.

Note: If the light is already off or blue the indicator light does not need to be reset. For select models, starting in 2010, the indicator light will stay off until 6 months or 400 gallons of water have been reached.

Some sounds in the RF263AEBP are normal and others are not. The sounds of the ice cubes dropping into the bucket and the trays filling with water are normal, but hearing a ratcheting sound is not. I would suggest calling 800-SAMSUNG to speak with an agent who can help determine whether the noises you're hearing are normal or require service.

I think it depends on the type of knock you are hearing. In the very beginning I heard the sound of the ice tumbling into the tray; however, this is normal because the ice tray was empty and the refrigerator was beginning its process of creating the type of ice I was requesting. So this requires careful observation and testing before placing that call to support because it could be normal. So try observing first by removing the ice, turning off the ice maker - next after a short period of time run it gain to see if the sound is similar.

Frost in the freezer results from the moisture in warmer air condensing on the cold surfaces in the freezer. While a small amount can be normal if the freezer drawer is opened frequently and in very warm, humid environments, excessive frost can be caused by either the drawer not closing properly or by inadequate ventilation. Please click on the following troubleshooting link, then click on Operation > Freezer > Frost in the Freezer: http://support-us.samsung.com/cyber...

I have the same problem.....read, Purchase this refrigerator in July/2011 and already broke twice, waiting for the tech to come being a week now with this very loud noise new refrigerator. Tech said first time that the thermostat was sending wrong information and was getting on all the time, when he removed the back panel to gain access the condenser it was one big panel of ice and the fan blades touching the ice was/is the cause of the loud noise. He also bent the condenser fins to try send the water from condensation down but I guess this poor fix is not working. Freezer is always frosted, he checked the door OK and said that's the model problem. I hope SAMSUNG will come up with some sort of recall for this model, I was going to get a SAMSUNG oven and microwave but start changing my idea about this brand.

answer 2
Frost building up inside the freezer usually indicates a problem with the refrigerator's self-defroster. This system gently heats the freezer compartment to melt the frost and drains any water into a pan under the freezer. If this system isn't working, frost builds up in the freezer compartment and on the evaporator coils.Manually defrost the freezer by removing all food and turning the unit off for one to two days. If the freezer works properly after this, look at the defrost heater -- a component hidden behind the freezer's interior panel. If it looks damaged, it may need to be replaced. Problems in the defrost thermostat and timer can also cause excessive frost but are hard for homeowners to identify. If you suspect these problems, call a repair technician.

I fixed this by holding in the two POWER Buttons at the same time for a few seconds... My display showed 88 88 but the 88 on the fridge side had one bar flashing so it looked like 89 but the nine was a mirror image of a 9... this happens when there is a power outage. All the displays came back on to normal. My fridge is a RF263 French Doors... What a great fridge, Spacious and well lighted. TerryD

Try using the power freeze feature, that will rapidly cool the temperature of the freezer and possibly speed up the ice production. If that does't work there is a button on the ice maker that says "Test Switch", push that and that may speed it up.

The RF263AEBP should produce approximately 4 pounds of ice per day under ideal conditions, though production may vary depending on freezer compartment temperature, room temperature, number of door openings and other factors. If yours is making less than this, there are several things that could be contributing. I would suggest checking the following:
- The recommended temperatures for the refrigerator and freezer compartments are 38°F and -2°F, respectively. If the freezer temperature is set higher than this, it could effect ice production. If the refrigerator is too cold, the water lines could freeze.
- Try pressing the Test button on the side of the icemaker to reset it.
- Have you replaced your water filter recently? A clogged or partially clogged filter can slow water flow and effect ice production. After replacing the filter, be sure to dispense up to 6 gallons of water to bleed air from the lines.
- Is your home's water pressure sufficient? In order for the ice maker to operate properly, water pressure of 20~125 psi is required. If the Refrigerator is installed in an area with low water pressure (below 20psi), you may be able to install a booster pump to compensate for the low pressure. Make sure the water valve to the refrigerator is turned on all the way and the lines are not bent or kinked, which could effect the pressure.
- The Power Freeze feature can help increase ice production by running the compressor for an extended period of time, as well.

I hope these suggestions help to increase your ice production.

Take a level to see if the refrigerator is level - this could be the reason it stops when the doors are opened. Every item including washing machines need to be level upon placement to its location in your home.

I recently installed the Samsung dishwasher and I immediately leveled it because the mechanisms in such devices move and the momentum creates movement.

Question

Are the door handles supposed to show the screws?

I just had my refrigerator delivered today and I am in love with it. I only have one question: on the interior of the french door handles, the screw heads are visible. Are there missing black caps that should have been snapped into those holes to cover the screws, or is that just a design flaw?

There is a way to "trick" Samsung refrigerators into thinking the doors are closed when they're not, which will cause the lights inside the refrigerator to remain off even when the doors are open. Here's how:
1) Find the two locations on the top of the plastic piece above the front of the refrigerator where the word 'switch' is embossed in raised letters.
2) Tape magnets just below these two locations, on the front of the plastic cover. Once both magnets are placed correctly, the lights will turn off.
3) The freezer lights are controlled by a button that gets compressed when the drawer is closed. The button is located on the left side of the freezer wall. Simply tape the button down during the Sabbath, and the lights will remain off.

It is important to note that if the refrigerator thinks the doors are closed when in fact they are open, the fan may come on with the door open and dissipate all the cold air from inside the unit. The magnets should be removed when Sabbath is over.

Question

What are the exact space requirements for "enough space for the Refrigerator doors to open easily."

The above quote was in the quick guide for this product. For an adjacent 36" high counter, is "enough space" a counter with the Depth A 29" 1/8" shown in the quick guide? Is there a limitation on the depth of an adjacent wall, assuming I have provided the 3" clear recommended in the quick guide?

Is the Depth E to the handles or to the face of the door?

The depth of the RF263AEBP cabinet is 29-1/8"; the 35-5/8" measurement (Depth "E" in the Quick Guide and User Manual) is the total depth including the handles. The depth to the face of the door, without the handles, is 33".

The recommended clearance on the side that opens into a wall is 3-3/4" in order to be able to open the door 90-degrees. If the 36" high adjacent wall is less than 45" deep, then it should not obstruct the door handles when it swings open.

In addition, Samsung recommends leaving enough space around the refrigerator to provide sufficient air circulation for the cooling system to work properly: 2" above and behind the unit, and at least 1-2" on each side, if the door is not swinging open into a fixed wall. I hope this helps clarify the clearance recommendations. Thank you.

The RF263AE and the RF266AE were released around the same time. These are both newer versions of the earlier RF263AB and RF266AB, and offer upgrades including increased energy efficiency, new handles, and LED lighting.

The difference between these models is the internal water dispenser on the RF266; the RF263 does not have a water dispenser. Both models have icemakers in the freezer compartment, as well as Samsung's signature Twin Cooling System, Cool Select Pantry Drawer, EZ Open Handles, and a five-year legacy of JD Power & Associates Overall Customer Satisfaction Awards for Refrigerators.
