Question

Can you run refrigerator without hooking up water for ice maker?

I am considering your RF217ACRS refrigerator. I do not have a water line run to my current refrigerator and do not need ice. Can I run your RF217ACRS refrigerator without hooking up a water line to the ice maker and do I need to do anything special so the ice make will not attempt to run or cause damage to the refrigerator. It is fine to use the RF217ACRS without hooking up the water line for the icemaker. Simply press the "Ice Off" button on the control panel to disable this function so the refrigerator does not attempt to drawer water to fill the tray.

Frost in the freezer results from the moisture in warmer air condensing on the cold surfaces in the freezer. While a small amount can be normal if the freezer drawer is opened frequently and in very warm, humid environments, excessive frost can be caused by either the drawer not closing properly or by inadequate ventilation. Please click on the following troubleshooting link, then click on Operation > Freezer > Frost in the Freezer: http://support-us.samsung.com/cyber...

Yes, the freezer drawer on the RF217ACRS can easily be removed by following these instructions:
1. Open the freezer drawer and remove the upper freezer drawer by lifting it up and pulling it toward you.
2. Locate the white plastic release buttons located toward the rear of the metal freezer drawer railing on both the right and left side.
3. Pull the freezer drawer out while pressing the release buttons (you may need a second person to help with this step). The entire drawer and railing should pull out together.
4. To reassemble, just align and slide the drawer rail back onto the track, being sure to push it in the entire way so the buttons lock back in place, then replace the upper bin, too.

The RF217ACRS does not come with an internal water filter for the icemaker. Instructions for installing an external water filtration system can be found on pages 17-18 of the User Manual, which can be downloaded from this link: http://tinyurl.com/29ctyvw

Please note that the Samsung part number (DA29-00015A) mentioned on page 18 has been discontinued. Your local retailer should be able to help you choose a filtration system that best meets your needs.

Noticed that water is forming on the outside of the small side bar that attached to the left door when closed.

Can't see it from the outside when closed and noticed when you opened the right side door on the top. The water is formed along the front of the side bar that was engaged as lock in position from top to bottom and side of the right side door at the rubber part. E.saver is on at the time and should I turn it off?

Yes, turning the Energy Saver off will activate the low-power heater that's built into the vertical strip between the French Doors that you're referring to. This should help to evaporate the condensation that can build up between the doors, especially when there's a lot of moisture/humidity in the air. I would suggest wiping the strip and gaskets down at the start.

The slides you're referring to on the vegetable bins help to control the humidity level in the drawers. Different fruits and vegetables have different storage needs with regard to humidity. To give you an example, items like lettuce, spinach and berries prefer high humidity (over 90%), while onions and squash prefer lower relative humidity (under 80%). Since the RF217ACRS features Samsung's signature Twin Cooling system, which helps to maintain a higher humidity level throughout the refrigerator (40-45%) compared to conventional systems (less than 20%), your produce should last longer regardless of the setting on the drawer. The drawer lever can complement the Twin Cooling, however: open the lever for lower humidity-loving fruits and veggies, and close the lever to increase it. A helpful trick to remember which produce loves higher humidity is to think of the items that are kept on the sides of the produce aisle in the grocery stores (where they receive frequent "mistings" of water) and which are not.

I hope this helps answer your question!

Cracking and popping sounds in the refrigerator are usually normal, and can be caused by the plastic parts expanding and contracting with the temperature. For more information on this and other sounds your RF217ACRS may make, please click on the link below to open the Troubleshooting Guide, then select "Operation" > "Refrigerator" > "Unusual Noises": http://support-us.samsung.com/cyber...

I'm sorry to hear your ice cubes have a chlorine taste. Since the RF217 refrigerator does not come with a water filtration system, the taste you're experiencing is from the water supply. If the filtration system you're using is not effective, I would suggest consulting with the retailer where you purchased it for a more effective alternative.

I'm sorry to hear your door alarm is not working. Please refer to page 13 of the User Manual (Reassembling the Refrigerator Door) to learn how to check the connection of the wires under the door hinge. If the door had been removed for any reason, such as during installation, it is possible the wires were not reattached properly. If this does not resolve the issue, please call 800-SAMSUNG to speak to an agent who will be happy to assist you further.

Question

How to get ice maker working

I bought a model RF217ACRS this summer, but just tried hooking up the ice maker. I connected the water line to the back of the refrigerator and know that there is water flow to that point.

All the instructions in the manual say it to wait 12 hours.. It's been several days and no ice. Is there a switch or something on the icemaker that needs to be turned on? I can't see anything.

thanks

Thank you for the question. If your RF217 is not producing ice after connecting the water line to the refrigerator, be sure the Ice Off button has not been activated on the control panel, and press the Test button on the icemaker as shown on page 23 of the User Manual.

If the ice tray does not fill with water, please check the water supply valve to be sure it's turned on fully, and the lines to be sure they are not kinked or bent, causing an obstruction in the water flow. If the tray fills with water but does not freeze after a couple of hours, try lowering the freezer temperature or pressing the Power Freeze button on the control panel.

If these suggestions do not help resolve the issue, please call 800-SAMSUNG to speak with an agent who will be happy to assist you further.

Thank you for the question. Water in your crisper drawers could be caused by condensation or it could be the result of a leak that would require service to repair. Please remove the crisper drawers and wipe up all water and moisture that has collected in or around them, then replace them and wait 24 hours. If more water accumulates by the next day, your RF217 will require service. To initiate service through Samsung, please submit an online service request through the link below, or call 800-SAMSUNG to speak with an agent who will be happy to assist you.

Please follow the link below then select "Usage ► > How To ► > How To Remove The Refrigerator Door Handles" for instructions on removing the refrigerator door handles on your RF217ACRS: http://support-us.samsung.com/cyber...
Samsung recommends removing the freezer drawer front rather than the EZ Open Handle on the drawer due to the complexity of both removing and replacing it. Instructions for removing the drawer front can be found through the same link or in the user manual.

I'm sorry to hear the ice is piling up enough to fall out of the ice bin in your RF217 freezer drawer. There is a feeler arm that hangs under the icemaker that should signal to the icemaker to stop producing ice once it reaches a certain level. If the lever is not working and your ice bin is overfilling it may require service. If the bin is at a normal full level, it is not unusual to have a few cubes escape on occasion through the small space between the bottom of the icemaker and the back of the bin. The best way to avoid this is to turn the icemaker off when you have enough cubes if it is producing at a faster rate than what you're using.

The RF217ACRS is an upgraded version of the RF217ABRS, and features new handles to better match other Samsung kitchen appliances, an Auto Pull-out upper freezer drawer which extends fully, and LED lighting in both the refrigerator and freezer compartments.

Like the RF217ABRS, the RF217ACRS continues to offer Samsung's signature Twin Cooling System, to help keep food fresh longer, EZ Open freezer drawer handle, and the convenience of an automatic icemaker in the freezer.

To fit the RF217ACRS through a 30" doorway, you'll need to remove the doors and drawer, which is actually recommended over removing just the handles anyway. Instructions for removing both the doors and the drawer can be found on this website or in the User Manual beginning on page 10. The User Manual can be downloaded from this website as a pdf file for your convenience.

The depth of the RF217ACRS without the doors and drawer is 26-1/4"; the depth with doors but without handles is 30-1/2"; and the depth with handles is 32-1/2".

The RF217ACRS has three shelves. The bottom shelf sits just above the crisper drawers and is not adjustable. The middle shelf has three possible settings, at 6-1/4", 8" or 9-3/4" above the bottom shelf. The top shelf is 17" above the bottom shelf, and there is another 8-3/4" of space between the top shelf and the ceiling of the refrigerator.
