The RF197 may be able to operate on a modified sine wave inverter that meets the 115V/60 Hz/11.6 amp power requirement. However, Samsung does not recommend installing the refrigerator in an RV due to the potential for power and temperature fluctuations.

Question

Cooltight door spring

When I opened the refrigerator door I heard something fly across the room. I then noticed that the door wouldn't close properly. The skinny little door flap doesn't go into the slot at the top.

I looked around and found a small silver spring type thing that i believe fits into the hinge at the bottom of the flap. I don't want to have to call a repairman for such a tiny thing, but I can find a picture of how it fits into the door properly. Is there an illustration or picture of this anywhere?

Thank you.

Thank you for contacting Samsung.

We conferred with our resident home appliance expert who showed us the part you speak on one of our demo models on the call center floor. The spring can be reinserted into two small holes (one on the flap and one on the fridge door itself. He popped the spring out and said just try putting the spring into the holes one side at a time (see attached images).

He said if it was too much trouble, you shouldn't worry about putting the spring in there at all, as it should not having any long-term effect on the fridge's operation. Just fold the flap inward and as long as it's in that position, it should close and seal just fine.

If the Movable Drawer on your RF217 is not gliding smoothly, try cleaning the track to remove any residue or debris. For thorough cleaning, remove the entire shelf, turn it upside down, and use a cotton swab to clean the track. If necessary, apply a very small amount of lubricant, such as WD40, with a swab to help the tray glide easily, but be careful to remove any excess to prevent it from dripping inside the drawer or onto the shelf beneath it.

To reset the icemaker, press the Test button on the bottom which should cause the tray to rotate and dump ice then return to its upright position and fill with water. It may be necessary to hold the Test button in for as long as 8 seconds. Please be sure to hold a container under the ice tray to catch any ice or water that spills.

Question

How do I replace the motor and tray part of an icemaker that has fallen into my upper freezer draw

I have a model RF217AC refrigerator. I do not use the icemaker and probably because I had too much stored in the freezer, it got knocked off, and the tray and motor have fallen in the upper draw and only are attached by wires. I attempted to remove the upper draw per instruction manual but there does not seem to be enough space to lift it out and does not seem possible to fit icemaker pieces back in place without getting out the upper draw. The freezer door does not seem to pull out far enough to allow clearance for the upper draw to be removed.

I'm sorry to hear you're having this issue. Samsung actually recommends having the icemaker serviced by a qualified technician if wires or parts have come undone. As far as the freezer drawer is concerned, it should pull out far enough to allow you to remove both bins, if necessary. If it's a tight fit, try opening the refrigerator doors for more clearance.

For assistance determining your service options, please call 800-SAMSUNG to speak with an agent who will be happy to assist you.

Question

Ice coming through hole in refrigerator compartment

Hi. Inside my Samsung refrigerator model rf217 near the top shelf, there is a small plastic part plugged into the inside back wall. I just discovered that it had popped out, and brownish ice is coming out the hole where the plastic plug used to be inserted.

What is this hole? Should I be concerned about the ice? What should I do abou it?

Thank you for contacting Samsung.

On the backside wall of the Twin Cooling logo is the evaporator. Our home appliance specialist indicates the brownish ice/water is what forms on the evaporator itself. He says it does not contribute to the water or ice you consume and that you should simply plug it back up. By leaving it unplugged, the air in your fridge is mixing with the air in the evaporator, which is much colder and can lead to issues.

Question

Why is there condensation forming on the vertical inside edge of the french doors?

I have had nothing but problems ever since this refrigerator was delivered to my house a month ago. It is otherwise quite a nice looking unit and seems to cool very efficiently.

If condensation is forming on the strip between the doors of your RF217, I would suggest turning the Energy Saver feature OFF by pressing the button on the control panel so the light is off. Disabling the Energy Saver causes the low-wattage heater in the strip between the doors to turn on, which helps to evaporate the condensation.

The buzzing noise is likely the sound of the compressor running and is normal. Like many other noises, you may be able to minimize the volume by adjusting the position or leveling the refrigerator and ensuring it has the appropriate amount of clearance around it. Samsung recommends leaving at least 2" above and behind the unit and 1" on each side.

If the ice tray is not filling with water, check to make sure the water valve is turned on, there are no bends or kinks in the water line, and the Ice Off icon on the control panel is not illuminated, then press the Test button on the bottom of the icemaker which should cause the tray to rotate then fill with water.

If the tray fills with water but does not freeze, check the fridge and freezer temperatures; they should be set to 38ºF and -2ºF, respectively. If the drawer is not closing or sealing properly, this could effect the freezer temperature in addition to allowing moisture in and promoting frost accumulation. Please click on the link below then select "Troubleshooting ► > Freezer ► > Frost in the Freezer": http://support-us.samsung.com/cyber...

If these suggestions do not help to resolve the issue, please use the link provided in the article to request service.
