Question

We've been getting water and ice in the vegetable drawers of our model RF217AB.

Could this be because we don't have the water line to the ice maker hooked up and forgot to press "Ice Off"?

I'm sorry to hear you're having this issue. If you don't have your RF217 connected to water, then it is likely that the water under the vegetable drawers is the result of condensation, which can be removed by wiping it up occasionally. If there is more than a small amount, please inspect the items you have stored in the refrigerator to try to determine the source of the leak.

It is normal for the cabinet to be warm. If it is too hot too touch then there's a problem. As long as it is operating normally and is not too hot to touch then nothing is wrong.

Some noises the refrigerator makes are normal and can be minimized by properly leveling the refrigerator or making other minor adjustments; others may indicate a need for service. Cracking or popping noises are usually associated with the expansion and contraction of plastics as they cool or freeze and are probably normal, though there may be ways to prevent or minimize this, as well. I would suggest you visit the Troubleshooting Guide through the link below, then select "Troubleshooting ► Noise/Vibration ► Cracking / Popping Noise": http://support-us.samsung.com/cyber...

If the suggestions and explanations do not resolve your concern, please contact 800-SAMSUNG to speak with an agent who will be happy to assist you further.

Question

Is warranty voided if ice-maker not hooked up?

I love this refrigerator (although I really, really wish the door was textured) but I have little to no use for an ice maker. My concern is two-fold: (1) would the warranty be affected/voided if the ice-maker was not hooked up and (2) if not, would the non-use of the ice-maker affect the overall functioning of the cooling system?

Not using or hooking up your ice maker will not void your warranty. Just be sure to select the "Ice Off" feature on your display panel. An icon will appear that looks like a cup with "Ice Off" display in or under it. This will affect the overall operation of the unit.

I'm sorry to hear you have deep scratches in the doors of your RF217ACBP. Unfortunately, Samsung does not have touch up paint available. I would suggest you check with your local appliance, home improvement or hardware store for an alternative remedy.

The RF217AC is an upgraded version of the RF217AB, and will feature new, upgraded handles, LED lighting in both the refrigerator and freezer, and the Auto Pull-out upper freezer drawer which can extend fully when opened.

Like the RF217AB, the RF217AC will continue to feature Samsung's signature Twin Cooling System, automatic icemaker in the freezer, EZ Open freezer drawer handle, Energy Star rating, and a five-year legacy of JD Power Overall Customer Satisfaction Awards for Refrigerators.

If your RF217 refrigerator is "locked" and will not roll easily, it is probably because the front leveling legs have been lowered, raising the wheels off the ground and locking the refrigerator in place. To raise the leveling legs, insert a flat head screwdriver in the grooves and rotate the legs so they raise up, leaving the refrigerator resting on the wheels.

Thanks for the question. The serial number on your RF217 refrigerator is in small print, located just below the bar code on the white label that also contains the model number. This label will be on the left wall just inside the refrigerator.

If you need any other assistance with registration, feel free to use Live Chat option on the support page or call 800-SAMSUNG to speak with an agent who will be happy to help.

Yes, the RF217ACBP will fit within the available space. The unit itself is 32-1/4" wide, 68-5/8" high behind the hinges and 69-3/4" high with the hinges, and 26-1/4" deep without the doors. Samsung recommends leaving at least 2" above and behind the refrigerator and 1" on each side to allow sufficient air flow for the cooling system to work properly and most efficiently. Ideally, you should have about 70-1/2" in height to allow for that ventilation. If it's a cabinet above the refrigerator, perhaps there's a recessed area underneath it.

Thank you for the question. It's not unusual to have a small amount of frost in the freezer since each time the drawer is opened, warmer air enters carrying moisture that freezes on the cold surfaces inside the compartment. While Samsung freezers do have heaters in the walls that cycle on periodically to prevent frost build-up, this does not necessarily prevent the moisture from condensing on the packages or plastic bins. To help reduce the amount of frost on packages, keep the drawer closed as much as possible.

If you're experiencing more than just a small amount of frost, I would suggest reviewing the available troubleshooting articles on this topic to ensure the drawer is closing properly and the vents are not blocked. Please click the link below, then select "Troubleshooting ► Freezer ► Frost in the Freezer": http://support-us.samsung.com/cyber...
Please click on the link below, as well, to view a short how-to video on removing frost from the bottom freezer: http://support-us.samsung.com/spsn/...

If these steps do not help to resolve the issue, please use the link provided in the article to request service.

Question

small ice cubes

Hi!
the ice maker was working fine once it was hooked up - but now the ice cubes are really small & some are tube like. it all started after I empited the ice catch bin and a plastic part came off - the part fits just below the ice tray on inside freezer drawer and has notches in it - the name on the plastic part is "coverice yf 2x2". I put it in notches facing into the the freezer just over the bin - maybe this is the problem? thanks for any help! there is nothing in the manual about this plastic part :-(

Thanks for the question. If the icemaker cover is the only part that came off, it's cosmetic and shouldn't affect the shape or size of the cubes. I would suggest pressing the Test button on the bottom of the icemaker which should cause the tray to rotate and dump its comments then fill with the appropriate amount of water. If the problem persists, your icemaker may require service. Thank you for the question. The RF217ACBP can fit many types of milk containers both on the shelves and in the door bins, though I'm not sure what you have in mind by "configuring the drawers". Some of the ways people fit milk containers in the RF217 include placing them in the door bins or, if they are too deep for the door bins they can be stored on the shelves. The middle shelf can be raised to its highest setting for more height clearance, if necessary.

I hope this helps,

The RF217ACBP is Energy Star-rated, exceeding the current federal standards by 20%. Since rebates vary by state or locale, I can't tell you which ones you might be eligible for. I would suggest consulting your retailer or looking for available rebates through EnergyStar.gov or through the Department of Energy's site: http://www.energysavers.gov/financi... These sites have a lot of helpful information on current rebate programs.

If your RF217ACBP has not yet produced ice, try pressing the Test button located on the bottom edge of the icemaker. This should cause the tray to rotate and fill with water. If it does not fill with water then you may need to press the button again until you bleed the air from the line and the water can work its way to the icemaker. If the tray fills, then it should be just a matter of time before it freezes. Samsung recommends setting the refrigerator and freezer temperatures to 38°F and -2°F, respectively.

Question

How do you remove the freezer handle?

I am replacing the black handles on RF217ACBP with the metal handles from the stainless model for cosmetic reasons. I have already replaced the door handles, but cannot figure out how to remove the freezer handle. The right side snaps off easily, but the right side does not and I do not want to force it. I see a hole on the bottom of the handle through which I see what appears to be a clamp but I cannot figure out what to do to release the handle. I would be grateful for your instructions.
