Questions & Answers for samsung RF217ABWP

Question

How do I start the ice maker on the rf217 fridge?

My rf217abwp was installed this morning. It appears to be working well. The fridge is cold and the freezer is colder (Down around 0 F) The water line to the ice maker is connected and the water freezes in the tray. However, It won't automatically eject the ice into the storage bucket. If I push the manual ice eject button, it ejects the ice correctly and refills the tray with water. But it still won't eject that ice automatically so it can make more. Any idea what is happening? The manual is cryptic at best on this point.

Samsung recommends leaving at least 1" on each side and 2" above and behind the RF217ABWP to allow sufficient air flow for the cooling system to work properly and most efficiently.

Question

I own a Samsung refridgerator RF217ABWP. The doors will not always shut tightly.

The doors will not shut tight. When we close the doors they seem to "float" and not "lock up". We have had this problem since we purchased the refrig but it is getting worse. The problem is mostly on the top two doors but the freezer also is a problem. The seals look OK.

Question

The vegitable drawer accumulates ~1/4 cup over a couple of weeks. What is wrong?

At least one time the water froze in the recessed area around the perimeter of the drawer. Both drawers are accumulating the water but there is no condensation on the walls/doors and no leaking containers in the refirgerator. The temperature settings are 38 and 4 and the ambient humidity is not very high.

If the freezer is set on -2°F but the items inside aren't frozen, try lowering the temperature. If it does not appear to be cooling at all, but the refrigerator is working properly, your RF217 will require service. Question

Why is my refrigerator freezing my food?

I've had my refrigerator for one year and four months. I have noticed that my lettuce and spinach are freezing in the vegetable drawers. I have thrown out a lot of it over the last month or so. This morning I pulled out boiled eggs from the night before and they had ice on them! The eggs were on the top shelf, not in one of the drawers. Earlier in the week, due to having to throw out more spinach, I turned the temp up to 40. Since that didn't work, I put a thermometer on the top shelf. After several hours, the thermometer read 33 degrees. The read out on the refrigerator reads 40 degrees. Obviously there is something wrong.

I'm sorry to hear you're having this issue with your RF217ABWP. If there is more than a 4-degree variance between the temperature reading on the refrigerator's display and the internal temperature measured by a thermometer, and if produce in the drawers and other food is freezing despite the set temperature being raised, it is likely that your refrigerator will require service. Please submit an online service request through the link below, or call 800-SAMSUNG to speak with an agent who will be happy to assist you.

If the icemaker in your RF217ABWP appears to be operating but is not harvesting ice, please check the water supply to make sure it is turned on all the way and the lines are not obstructed. Press the Test button on the bottom of the icemaker; if the water line was just installed, it may be necessary to press the Test button more than once to bleed air from the line. If water does not flow into the ice tray after pressing the button a number of times, please call 800-SAMSUNG to speak with an agent who will be happy to assist you further.

Question

Where is the freezer off button on the RFG237?

Thanks for the question. Do you have the RFG238 model? The RFG237 does not have an icemaker in the freezer; the only icemaker in this model is in the refrigerator compartment. If it's the RFG238 that you have, there are two Ice Off icons on the control panel display; one is for the upper icemaker and the other is for the lower one (see attached diagram from the user manual). Pressing the Ice Off button should enable you to toggle through the on-off modes. If the icon is illuminated, the corresponding icemaker is turned off.

If the Ice Off icon for the lower (freezer) icemaker is not illuminated, but it is no longer producing ice, but the water dispenser and upper icemaker are working properly, please try pressing the Test button on the bottom of the icemaker to reset it. This should cause the tray to rotate then fill with water. If it does not, it may require service. Please call 800-SAMSUNG if you do need further assistance.
