The refrigerator door on the RB217ABWP is reversible. The factory default has it hinged on the right, so it does swing open from left to right. This is the case with all "RB-series" Bottom Freezer models (RB195, RB197, RB215 and RB217).

Question

What parts are necessary to switch the refridgerator door to hinge on the left?

Is there a kit with all parts?

The cabinet diagram on samsungparts.com shows some part numbers for right hinge, but am unsure which parts are appropriate or necessary for left hinge. Any guidance you can offer is greatly appreciated.

The new RB217ABWP should have arrived with all the parts necessary to reverse the hinge on the refrigerator door; the kit would have been packed in styrofoam and stored inside the unit. If not, please contact 800-SAMSUNG to speak with an agent who can assist you.

Instructions for reversing the door can be accessed through this link: http://ars.samsung.com/customer/usa...

Thank you for your interest in Samsung refrigerators. Though we do have both French Door and Single Door Bottom Freezer models that fit your width and depth requirements, we do not have any refrigerators less than 68-1/2" high (not including the front hinge). If you decide to make changes to your kitchen that would allow for more height (such as removing or raising a cabinet above the refrigerator, which many people opt to do), then you may want to consider the following models:

French Doors: RF197, RF217
Single Door Bottom Freezers: RB195, RB215, RB197, RB217

The above models are all 32-1/4" wide, and offer different options for pull-drawer vs. swing door bottom freezers, as well as a choice of full-depth vs. counter depth, all of which are under 31" deep even with the doors.

All of these options also feature Samsung's signature Twin Cooling System, which helps keep food fresh longer, automatic icemakers in the freezer, and the quality workmanship that has earned Samsung five consecutive years of JD Power & Associates Overall Customer Satisfaction Awards for Refrigerators (2005-2009).

Samsung recommends leaving 1" on top and on each side, and 2" behind the RB217ABWP, to allow sufficient air flow for the cooling system to work properly and most efficiently.

I'm sorry to hear you're having this issue. The water that is accumulating may be the result of condensation or it could be an indication of a leak that would require service to repair. Try wiping up the water and waiting 24 hours. If water has accumulated there again by the next day, your refrigerator will likely require service. Please submit an online service request through the link below, or call 800-SAMSUNG to speak with an agent who will be happy to assist you.

The narrowest refrigerators that Samsung makes are 32-1/4" wide, and include the RB195 and RB215 Swing Door Bottom Freezers; the RB197 and RB217 Pull Drawer Bottom Freezers; and the RF197 and RF217 French Door refrigerators. The difference between the "xx19xx" and the "xx21xx" styles is the depth. The former are counter depth (approximately 24" deep without the door) and the latter are full-depth (approximately 26" deep without the doors). It's also worth noting that Samsung recommends leaving at least 1" on each side, as well as 2" behind and above, these models to allow sufficient air flow for the cooling systems to work properly and most efficiently.

More information, including specifications and availability, for each of these models is available on this website.

The RB217ABWP is 30-1/8" deep with the door and drawer, and Samsung recommends leaving approximately 2" behind the unit to allow sufficient air flow for the cooling system to work properly and most efficiently. Your 32" space should be enough to accommodate this model.

Samsung's refrigerators are considered to be very quiet, though I cannot give you a quantifiable answer to your question. I would suggest visiting a store near you that has the RB217, or a similar model, on display and plugged in to determine for yourself whether it suits your needs. Be sure the compressor is turned on and not in "Cooling Off" mode, for an accurate determination of the how quiet the compressor is.

Question

Water collection problem in crisper drawers Model RF217ABWP/XAA

After over a year of no problems the refrigerator is collecting water in the crisper drawers and in the bottom below. The water eventually freezes and ruins the produce in the drawers. We don't have the ice maker connected so there seems to be no water source. What could be the cause and how do we fix the problem?

Please try adjusting the temperature of the refrigerator to the recommended 38°F if it is not already there. If it is set higher than that, it will freeze water that may be the result of condensation when it settles on the bottom. Try wiping up the water and waiting 24 hours. If the water accumulates again in that period of time, it may require service. To initiate service through Samsung, please submit an online service request through the link below, or call 800-SAMSUNG to speak with an agent who will be happy to assist you.

The temperature of the refrigerator on your RB217ABWP can be set by pressing the Fridge button on the control panel multiple times until your desired temperature is displayed. The Freezer temperature can be set by pressing the Freezer button in the same manner. It's important to make sure the Child Lock is deactivated by pressing the Child Lock button for 3 seconds if the padlock icon is displayed on the control panel. For more information, please refer to page 19 of the user manual which can be downloaded as a pdf file from this website.
