Questions & Answers for samsung 21 cu. ft. Bottom Freezer Refrigerator

Question

RB217ABPN/XAA - How many are having ice make issues with bottom mount -

I have a bottom mount model # RB217ABPN/XAA and part of the icemaker have fell into the ice bin. One of the parts appears to be large piece of one silicone rubber, About the size of a bar of soap.

In addition, a plastic piece fell off as well.

It's only 3-1/2 years old and this shouldn't be happening. I also had a control board stop working at 18 months.

Disappointed with this Samsung product.

The humming sound you hear is most likely the compressor running. While it isn't unusual for the compressor to run for as long as it needs to maintain the set temperature, the volume can often be minimized by properly leveling the refrigerator. You can also help the fridge run efficiently by checking the doors to make sure they're closing and sealing properly, make sure the vents inside the refrigerator and freezer are not blocked, and that there is sufficient clearance around the outside of the refrigerator.

Question

May I get a detail on how the ice maker goes together?

The ice maker is making ice but is frezzing together in the ice tray. I noticed a plactic cord hanging down from the ice maker that had not been hanging down before. I assume it has to do with the temp gauge on the ice maker and would like to see a detail on the ice maker so I can fix it.

I'm sorry to hear your display panel is not working properly. The blinking lights are likely codes that are part of an internal diagnostic system to help guide a qualified technician to identify the cause of an issue and find a solution. When you unplug the refrigerator, the error codes and other history are cleared from the refrigerator's memory, so Samsung does not recommend doing this unless advised to do so by an authorized technician. Thank you for the question. It is not unusual for the digital temperature on the display to vary by up to 4 degrees compared to the temperature in the refrigerator or freezer based on a household thermometer temperature reading because:
- Hot air rises, and cold air falls. This can effect the shelf temperatures.
- Opening the door to read the thermometer allows cold air to escape and warm air to enter causing an inaccurate temperature reading.
- Refrigeration thermometers are calibrated differently than regular household thermometers.

That said, if there is a significant difference in the temperature readings inside your refrigerator or freezer compared to the display (greater than + or - 4°F), your refrigerator may require service. To initiate service through Samsung, please submit an online service request through the link below, or call 800-SAMSUNG to speak with an agent who will be happy to assist you.

The RB217 does not have a control for selecting the amount of ice that is made, though you can turn the icemaker off by pressing the Ice Off button on the control panel when it reaches the desired level, rather than relying on the automatic shut off triggered by the feeler arm that hangs under the icemaker.

I'm sorry to hear you're having this issue. Please try pressing the Test button on the bottom of the icemaker to reset it; this should cause the tray to rotate to harvest the contents, then fill with the correct amount of water. Please make sure the freezer is set at the recommended -2°F. If the problem persists, it may require service to diagnose and fix it. Question

How can the rubber cube form be replaced into ice maker to make ice CUBEs again?

Went to get a scoop of ice and found a whiteish foreign object in the ice bin. I appears this object is made of plyable rubber and has clean edges (it hasn't been torn from the ice maker). It appears this object may have been "pushed" (or dropped) out when the ice maker dropped a completed batch of ice. We've cleaned the ice maker and restarted it. The ice now comes out in small "sheets" instead of the original cube form.

Thank you for the question. Ice build-up in the freezer may be the result of frost melting then refreezing. It's not unusual to have a small amount of frost in the freezer since each time the drawer is opened, warmer air enters carrying moisture that freezes on the cold surfaces inside the compartment. While Samsung freezers do have heaters in the walls that cycle on periodically to prevent frost build-up, this does not necessarily prevent the moisture from condensing on the packages or plastic bins. If the drawer is then left open long enough for the frost to melt, it may then refreeze into ice once the drawer is closed again. To help reduce the amount of frost on packages, keep the drawer closed as much as possible.

If you're experiencing more than just a small amount of frost and ice build-up, I would suggest reviewing the available troubleshooting articles on this topic to ensure the drawer is closing properly and the vents are not blocked. Please click the link below, then select "Troubleshooting ► Freezer ► Frost in the Freezer": http://support-us.samsung.com/cyber...
Please click on the link below, as well, to view a short how-to video on removing frost from the bottom freezer: http://support-us.samsung.com/spsn/...

Power outages are sometimes accompanied by surges that can damage the refrigerator. If your RB217 has an error code displayed and is not responsive, it may require service. Thanks for the question. There are several factors that can effect the ability of the icemaker to produce ice, in particular the availability of water to fill the tray, and the temperature of the freezer once the tray is filled with water. First, make sure the Ice Off button on the control panel has not been pressed. Next, try pressing the Test button on the bottom of the icemaker, which should cause the tray to rotate then fill with water. For the water to freeze, the freezer temperature should be set to -2°F or colder. You can also press the Power Freeze button on the control panel to help speed the freezing process.

If the tray did not fill with water, check the water supply valve to make sure it is on all the way, and make sure the line is not bent or kinked. If you have an external filtration system installed, make sure the filter is not clogged. Samsung recommends setting the refrigerator temperature to 38°F; if set too cold the water line could freeze. It may be necessary to press the Test button more than once when the water line is first installed to bleed air from the line.

If the icemaker still won't fill with water or rotate to dump the ice, it may require service. Please submit an online service request through the link below, or call 800-SAMSUNG to speak with an agent who will be happy to assist you.

I'm sorry to hear you're having a problem with your RB217ABPN. While there are a number of things you can check to troubleshoot issues with your icemaker, if it has come apart, I would suggest having it repaired by a qualified technician to avoid further damage and get it to work again. Even if it's in the right position to fill and troubleshooting can help the water to flow into it, if it isn't able to rotate and harvest the ice automatically, it could lead to overfilling and spillage the next time it goes to fill.
