Questions & Answers for samsung RB215LASH

Question

My refrigerator Model # RB215LASH won't dump the ice without my pressing the reset button to dump it.

The ice maker fills and freezes just fine but it is not dumping the ice on it's own. I can press the reset button and it dumps it. But this is the only way. Is there any thing I can check or do to fix this myself?

As a quick follow-up, we spoke with our resident appliance expert and he indicated that if the "Ice Off" icon is not illuminated, you'll definitely need service. If it is illuminated, the ice maker is turned on and that's why there is no ice harvest (dump).

Thank you for contacting Samsung.

We recommend you review the following troubleshooting article.

http://support-us.samsung.com/cyber/popup/iframe/pop_troubleshooting_fr.jsp?idx=348864&modelname=RB215LASH&modelcode=&session_id=PpghhQyfHpwZXxD7Y2bPrbBv60G2DqV7LXn0b5FCQZBQxMHVvl8F%211563613049%21-2054320912%211340727450295

It recommends filing a service request only if the ice maker does not harvest (dump) the ice when the test/reset button is pressed, but if you'd to speak with a service technician about this issue, you are more than welcome to.

Question

my ice maker doesn't work properly

Hi,
I bought this samsung refridgerator three days ago and it works well but the ice maker has only made about 10 ice cubes in three days. The refridgerator I was replacing had an ice maker and it is definitely getting water. What is the problem?

Thank you for the question. The icemakers in Samsung refrigerator-freezers are designed to produce about 120 cubes per day, but it can take up to 24 hours for the freezer to cool fully. I would suggest running a test on such a new unit prior to requesting service. To do so, simply empty the ice cube bin and wait 24 hours, then count the cubes.

If there are still fewer than 50 cubes, then I would recommend contacting service by either submitting an online service request (click here: http://www.samsung.com/us/support/o... ) or call 800-SAMSUNG to speak with an agent who can assist you.

If the freezer is producing 50 to 90 cubes per day, try setting the freezer to a lower temperature. The freezer should be set below 5°F for the icemaker to work properly, and the recommended setting is -2°F. Next, make sure your water valve on the refrigerator water supply line is completely open. If you have a water filter installed, try changing the filter.

Thank you for the question.

Question

Refrigerator RB215LASH cooling issue after power outage

After a power outage and then power restored quickly after, the refrigerator RB215LASH temperature eventually goes up after the power is restored as if the refrigerator motor stop (the refrigerator power is on). When I get home from a trip the temp will read in the 60s in the top and 50s in the bottom(resulting in throwing away all my food). Only when I push the front temp buttons to reset the temperature does the refrigerator start working again. What can be done to make sure the refrigerator continues to works(cool/freeze) after a power outage then power restored.

I'm sorry to hear you're having this issue with your RB215LASH. Surges or glitches on the power line can damage your refrigerator either at the time of the outage or when power is restored, causing a failure that is detected when the unit's power returns. If your refrigerator is not cooling properly after a power outage, a service call is probably necessary. I would suggest contacting Samsung for service through the link below, or calling 800-SAMSUNG to speak with an agent who will be happy to assist you further.

I'm sorry to hear you're having this issue. The door alarm should sound only if the door is ajar, and the temperature should not go down unless the temperature setting was changed. Since the RB215LASH comes with a factory-installed icemaker, it sounds as though you've had some work done to the unit. I would suggest contacting Samsung to discuss your service options by calling 800-SAMSUNG.

The RB215LASH does not have an internal water filter for the icemaker. Instructions for installing an external water filtration system can be found on pages 17-18 of the User Manual, which can be downloaded from this link: http://www.samsung.com/us/support/d...

Please note that the Samsung part number (DA29-00015A) mentioned on page 18 has been discontinued. Your local retailer should be able to help you choose a filtration system that best meets your needs.

The most common cause of water underneath the vegetable bins in the RB215LASH, and other models that do not have a water filter within the refrigerator compartment, is condensation. This is most likely to occur in hot and humid environments or seasons.

If the icemaker in your RB215LASH has stopped working, please check to make sure the water supply valve is turned on fully, there are no kinks or bends in the line, and that the Ice Off button on the control panel on the front of the refrigerator has not been activated. If the tray is filling with water but it is not freezing, make sure the freezer is set at -2°F or colder, and select the Super Freeze button on the control panel to speed up ice production. Please keep in mind that opening the freezer door frequently and adding warmer items to the freezer will effect the temperature in the compartment and can slow ice production.

If these suggestions do not resolve the issue for you, please use the Live Chat option on the product support page or call 800-SAMSUNG to speak with an agent who can assist you further.

I'm sorry to hear your RB215LASH isn't making any ice. Please be sure that the supplied water is from the cold water line, the valve is turned on all the way (pressure should ideally be between 20-125 psi) and there are no bends or kinks in the line. If you have installed an external filtration system, check the filter for clogs/obstructions by removing it to determine if the water pressure changes. Next, be sure the Ice Off button has not been pressed: is the Ice Off icon illuminated on the control panel? If the ice tray has not already filled with water, try pressing the test/reset button on the bottom of the ice tray. If the tray is full of water, check the freezer temperature which needs to be below 0°F for ice to be produced; the recommended freezer temperature is -2°F to -4°F. It should take at least 90 minutes for a batch of ice to freeze, keeping in mind that opening the freezer door can prolong the cycle time by letting warm air in and cold air out.

If the tray will not fill with water after checking the above conditions, or if the tray is full but the freezer will not reach the necessary temperature, your unit will likely require service. Please call 800-SAMSUNG or use the Live Chat button on the product support page for further assistance.

The RB215LASH does not have a built-in water filter. If you have an external filtration system, please follow the manufacturer's instructions for that unit. If you do not have an external filter but would like one, please consult with your local appliance, home improvement or hardware store to find one that best suits your needs. Instructions for attaching an external filtration system to the RB215's water lines can be found in the User Manual, which is downloadable as a pdf file from this website. Please note that the Samsung part number for a filter mentioned on page 14 of the User Manual is no longer available.

Frost in the freezer results from the moisture in warmer air condensing on the cold surfaces in the freezer. While a small amount can be normal if the freezer drawer is opened frequently and in very warm, humid environments, excessive frost can be caused by either the drawer not closing properly or by inadequate ventilation. Please click on the following troubleshooting link, then click on Operation > Freezer > Frost in the Freezer: http://support-us.samsung.com/cyber...

Question

My RB215LASH refrigerator has thermostatic problems when power disruptions occur.

When the power flickers or goes out, the refrigerator and freezer temperatures will drop dramatically once the power returns. The display will show 86 and as I recall 48 degrees on the refrigerator and freezer displays. As a result, the unit continues to run and cool/freeze excessively. I've had soda cans explode in the refrigerator. The way I've learned to treat this is to turn off the power at the houshold breaker, turn it back on and then immediately reset the freezer and refrigerator temperature settings.
Ordinarlly this isn't a great problem, but I worry that if this should happen while I'm away for a few days, the unit would not only ruin goods, it might cause detriment to itself.
We are very pleased with this appliance otherwise, and own many samsung products with which we have no complaints.
Could you please advise us how to correct or respond to this problem?
Thanks.
