Questions & Answers for samsung RB215LASH

Question

My refrigerator Model # RB215LASH won't dump the ice without my pressing the reset button to dump it.

The ice maker fills and freezes just fine but it is not dumping the ice on it's own. I can press the reset button and it dumps it. But this is the only way. Is there any thing I can check or do to fix this myself?

As a quick follow-up, we spoke with our resident appliance expert and he indicated that if the "Ice Off" icon is not illuminated, you'll definitely need service. If it is illuminated, the ice maker is turned on and that's why there is no ice harvest (dump).

Thank you for contacting Samsung.

We recommend you review the following troubleshooting article.

http://support-us.samsung.com/cyber/popup/iframe/pop_troubleshooting_fr.jsp?idx=348864&modelname=RB215LASH&modelcode=&session_id=PpghhQyfHpwZXxD7Y2bPrbBv60G2DqV7LXn0b5FCQZBQxMHVvl8F%211563613049%21-2054320912%211340727450295

It recommends filing a service request only if the ice maker does not harvest (dump) the ice when the test/reset button is pressed, but if you'd to speak with a service technician about this issue, you are more than welcome to.

The RB215LASH does not have a built-in water filter. If you have an external filtration system, please follow the manufacturer's instructions for that unit. If you do not have an external filter but would like one, please consult with your local appliance, home improvement or hardware store to find one that best suits your needs. Instructions for attaching an external filtration system to the RB215's water lines can be found in the User Manual, which is downloadable as a pdf file from this website. I'm sorry to hear you're having this issue. The door alarm should sound only if the door is ajar, and the temperature should not go down unless the temperature setting was changed. Since the RB215LASH comes with a factory-installed icemaker, it sounds as though you've had some work done to the unit. I would suggest contacting Samsung to discuss your service options by calling 800-SAMSUNG.

The most common cause of water underneath the vegetable bins in the RB215LASH, and other models that do not have a water filter within the refrigerator compartment, is condensation. This is most likely to occur in hot and humid environments or seasons.

Question

Refrigerator freezes contents and tempo indictors in door are incorrect

I have an RB215LASH and both the refrigerator and freezer temperature readouts are off from the true internal tempuratures. The firdge temp is 20 but the door says 40. This is causing the refrigerator contents to freeze. The freezer is 20 and the door says 8 so the compressor never stops. Would this be a temp sensor issue or a main board issue?

Question

Why does my freezer stop freezing after a even 2 second power outage?

There are never any error codes on the display but after every power outage the freezer warms up to over 30 deg F. If I manually reset the temperature to -6 or so it will freeze and stay that way until the next power outage. I have already lost a lot of frozen food due to this issue.

Question

How come my Samsung RB215LASH-XAA Fridge is gathering water under the vegetable trays and then freezing?

I've read other responses and it looks like the response is typically that condensation could be gathering, but it seems like a lot of water to be simply a condensation issue. Also, our temperatures for both the fridge and the freezer occasionally change temps without us changing the setting. Could the two problems be related & what do we need to do to fix the issue. The primary concern is the freezing water under the vegetable bins in the fridge.

I'm sorry to hear you're having this issue with your RB215LASH fridge. You're correct that condensation is sometimes the cause of water gathering under the vegetable drawers, though if it is a significant amount that accumulates rapidly it is probably a leak that will require service to repair.

If the water is freezing on the bottom of the fridge compartment, it's possible that your refrigerator temperature is set either too high or too low. Try adjusting the temperature to 38°F, if it is currently set differently. Next, wipe up the water and wait 24 hours. If water has accumulated there again by the next day, your refrigerator will require service. Please submit an online service request through the link below, or call 800-SAMSUNG to speak with an agent who will be happy to assist you.

There are different factors that can cause the gasket to stop sealing properly. Please check to make sure the RB215 is properly leveled from left to right, adjusting the front leveling legs as needed to make it level. If the door still isn't sealing in some areas, the gasket may be dried out, cracked, or otherwise damaged and need to be replaced. Samsung recommends having the gasket replaced by a qualified technician to ensure it is done properly. Question

My RB215LASH refrigerator has thermostatic problems when power disruptions occur.

When the power flickers or goes out, the refrigerator and freezer temperatures will drop dramatically once the power returns. The display will show 86 and as I recall 48 degrees on the refrigerator and freezer displays. As a result, the unit continues to run and cool/freeze excessively. I've had soda cans explode in the refrigerator. The way I've learned to treat this is to turn off the power at the houshold breaker, turn it back on and then immediately reset the freezer and refrigerator temperature settings.
Ordinarlly this isn't a great problem, but I worry that if this should happen while I'm away for a few days, the unit would not only ruin goods, it might cause detriment to itself.
We are very pleased with this appliance otherwise, and own many samsung products with which we have no complaints.
Could you please advise us how to correct or respond to this problem?
Thanks.

Thanks for the question. There are several factors that can effect the ability of the icemaker to produce ice, in particular the availability of water to fill the tray, and the temperature of the freezer once the tray is filled with water. First, make sure the Ice Off button on the control panel has not been pressed. Next, try pressing the Test button on the bottom of the icemaker, which should cause the tray to rotate then fill with water. For the water to freeze, the freezer temperature should be set to -2°F or colder. You can also press the Power Freeze button on the control panel to help speed the freezing process.

If the tray did not fill with water, check the water supply valve to make sure it is on all the way, and make sure the line is not bent or kinked. If you have an external filtration system installed, make sure the filter is not clogged. Samsung recommends setting the refrigerator temperature to 38°F; if set too cold the water line could freeze. It may be necessary to press the Test button more than once when the water line is first installed to bleed air from the line.

If the icemaker still won't fill with water or rotate to dump the ice, it may require service. Please submit an online service request through the link below, or call 800-SAMSUNG to speak with an agent who will be happy to assist you.

Thank you for the question. Please make sure there are no packages blocking the flow of air from the vents since this could cause the moisture around them to freeze.
