Question

purple pixels when watching anything with a white background

i have had my 63" tv for almost 2 years and the picture has always been great, latley anytime i watch a snowy scene or just about any whiteish bachground in the picture i get this strange purple horzontal band about 10" high of pixels that run from the complete left side of the screen all the way to the right side of the screen and it happens nomatter if i am watching a dvd, bluray or fios digital tv. i changed all of my hdmi cables and i even tried using input 2,3, and 4 and still i get this purple pixel band on top of the picture. i even once while watching frozen planet on bluray paused the movie in a scene where it would do this and i tried to adjust the tvs video setting and no matter what it does not go away, only when i changed the gamma setting does it kind of dissapper. i was wondering if anybody else has this issue before ?? it does not ever happen in any dark or normal scenes only pure white or snow like sceens.

Try using the picture test function by going to 'Menu' and then navigating to 'Support' and selecting that.

You'll see a few different functions including the self diagnostic. Select it. It might take few seconds; this is part of the normal operation of the TV. Use this to check for picture problems.

If the test pattern does not appear or there is noise in the test pattern, select Yes. There may be a problem with the TV. Also, if the image problem continues after this test, the TV may need servicing. At either point, contact us at 1-800-SAMSUNG, or if you want to come through a social media channel, we have a couple options for you:

If you have a Twitter account, go here or to this URL:

Having a transaction number or model number and serial number handy ahead of time will be helpful.

If you have Facebook, go here to this URL:

Any HDMI cable will work, but if you want to use 3D you will need to use a HDMI 1.4 cable.

I use a standard HDMI cable version 1.3 and it works fine. A version 1.4 cable is not needed by any device at this time, Version 1.4 adds ethernet to the HDMI cable, which as of right now (Jan 2011) commercially available electronics do not support. If the cost is the same, which it doesn't seem to be, go for the newer cable, but I suggest saving your money until you really need a 1.4 cable. Heck 1.5 might be out by that time!

To be specific a HIGH SPEED HDMI cable is needed for 3d support, previously called a HDMI catagory 2. Officially there is no such thing as a HDMI 1.3, 1.4 etc cable. HDMI 1.4 standards did define two new types of HDMI cables (one the one with ethernet and one with different size connection meant for autos), but neither of the two new types is meant for use with this TV. To try and stop confusion the standards say cables should NOT be identified ad 1.1, 1.2, 1.3, 1.4 etc.

You can't change the Hz but you can change that look in the picture by turning off the Smooth Motion setting. The smooth motion setting makes it look like 120hz settings on LCD TV's, I find it very annoying when watching TV. I only use it when I'm playing certain games on Xbox 360.

answer 2
All Samsung Plasma TVs offer a technology called 600Hz subfield motion. Basically for the 600Hz sub-field motion, the television shows you the image at the same refresh rate (60Hz) but flashes the individual pixels faster so the images appear smoother then on a regular 60Hz panel. In this case it flashes the pixels 10 times faster then normal. So 60 fps x 10 sub-field = 600 flashes of the pixels per second. This makes the images seem much smoother on the screen but it does not increase the actual frames per second. It is not exactly the same as the Hz on the LCD/LED Samsung TVs (which ultimately raise the frame rates of the images, giving you a "Hyper-Real" image) and can not be toggled on or off since it is always on. The reason you are seeing the 60Hz in the info box is because the info box only displays the signal’s actual Hz and screen resolution and not the info of the picture on the screen after the TV processes it. Meaning that the 60Hz you are seeing is the signals actual Hz and not the screen’s Hz. Currently there is no way to display the screen’s Hz in the info box. To eliminate the haloing or blurring on screen with the PN63C8000, I would suggest adjusting the "Film Mode" (Menu->Picture->Picture Options) setting.

For audio output from the TV, you will want to connect it to a receiver via an RCA 3.5mm jack cable or an Optical cable. Since the TV does not offer HDMI outputs, audio will need to be connected by one of the aforementioned ways.

You can use your hdmi cable to send audio using hdmi input 2 which supports (ARC) audio return channel to your surround sound. You have to have an hdmi cable that supports ARC along with a AV receiver that supports ARC. If you have both consult your AV manual to see what mode the AV receiver has to be in to enable ARC.

Removing the Base on this unit is a 2+ person job. On page 5 of the manual, there are detailed instructions on how to install the base; however, to remove the base, just follow the instructions backwards and make sure that the TV is clear of the tab on the stand that hold it together. If you have any further questions, please contact 800-SAMSUNG.

Put the TV into the 16:9 picture mode. If the screen is still offset, then the issue will be your external device.

If you are using an antenna, then the issue may be with the tuner.

The 16:9 selection still leaves a 5% overscan. By changing to FIT SCREEN the overscan is eliminated so you see all of the picture and it also uses the correct number of pixels for an improved picture.

Although the wattage and amperage numbers are not readily available (since daily usage varies from owner to owner depending on settings and content), I can say that most all current generation Samsung TVs are EnergyStar4.0 compliant. This ensures the best possible performance with minimal power usage. The power cable's length is about 6 feet long.

Unfortunately, Skype is not available on the Plasma TVs at this time. Although I may not have any info on if it will ever be available, the Internet@TV content you viewed is stock content that is used for all the devices that offer Internet@TV, and therefore, it will show a variety of different applications that may be available on our devices. For a complete listing of all the available Apps broken down by device, please visit http://www.samsung.com/us/samsungap.... Along the bottom of the page, there is a link that will take you to a spread sheet with a detailed breakdown of what units offer what apps.

There are two different kinds of active burn in protection features on the Samsung C8000 Plasma TVs. The first one is PixelShift (PixelShift can be adjusted on or off and allows for intensity level adjustments). This feature will basically move all your pixels, uniformly, a predetermined amount of pixel spaces in order to prevent a pixel from being lit in a specific pixel space for too long. However, if ghosting does occur, you can use the other anti-burn in feature, called Scrolling, to help refresh the screen. The Scrolling feature will "scroll" a gradient of black and white across the screen to help eliminate the ghosting, if any, that has accumulated on your panel. Both of these features can be found in the Picture Options section of the TV's menu.

Both provide an excellent HD picture, offer stunning arrays of colors, and of course, Samsung’s exclusive technologies which allow you to get the most out of either panel.

Samsung LED Televisions offers an LCD panel that is illuminated by a back-light array of LEDs. The LED life is estimated up to 100,000 hours under optimal conditions. Samsung LED TVs will offer lower power consumption while still producing high dynamic contrast numbers.

Plasma Televisions operate using a combination of gas and glass to illuminate the individual pixels, or light sections, within the screen. The life of a plasma panel is up to 100,000 hours under optimal conditions, allows an expanded viewing angle over LCD panels, and has a response time as fast as .001ms. All of the Samsung Plasma units have a feature called Screen Burn Protection, which helps reduce the effects of static images and provide a quality image for the life of the panel.

Samsung LED Televisions offer a great picture without image-retention and smooth image motion using the Auto Motion Plus processing. Plasma Televisions offer faster response times, as well as appeals to customers replacing a tube television with a glass screen they are familiar and comfortable with. And, due to advances in technology, both plasma and LCD screens can work well even in the brightest rooms.

Unless you have your TV in BDWise mode at all times, the higher contrast levels should not effect your TV negatively. That said, I would suggest pressing the "Tools" button on your remote once in BDWise mode to adjust the picture settings.

Subtitling is actually controlled by 3rd party devices like a DVD, BD player or PC), enter the TVs menu, navigate to Setup, and enter the Caption option. Although you will be able to customize Digital Channel Captions, Analogue Channel Captions can not be customized. For more info, please refer to page 26 of the unit's manual.

Question

Why are my picture settings not stored?

My picture settings for calibration are not being stored. When I turn on the TV, the settings I used previously are not there, only the default settings are. Also, while watching the TV, the picture setting mode will change from Movie to Standard. Any ideas?

Please follow the link below for more information on saving your settings on the TV. Coincidentally, the FAQ is for LCD TVs, but it should work for your Plasma TV as well.

Unfortunately, Samsung cannot suggest any specific calibration numbers since every calibration has to be done based on the preferences of the customer performing the low level calibration.
Perhaps other users on this forum may be able to better help you out.
