Questions & Answers for samsung PN60E550D1F

Question

How do you remove the "unavailable" notification when using external speakers.?

I am using a sound bar and programmed the tv remote to control its volume and mute buttons. I turned off the TV speakers by choosing external speakers. However when I press the volume button a message stating "unavailable" shows up. The volume works. When this happens while watching Netflix the screen goes blank.

Thank you for contacting Samsung.

Based on our research, the remote with that TV cannot be programmed to control another device. The "Not Available" message that appears on your TV screen is indicative of the fact that you're attempting to submit a remote command to the TV that it doesn't allow. There is no way to disable this message from appearing. We recommend you email us at qasupport@sea.samsung.com. Please provide a brief description of your product issue, as well as the product model, serial number and your contact info.

Question

EX-LINK control codes?

I've found online that the EX-LINK port on the back of this television can be used to control the TV. I've made the special cable, connected it to my computer's USB serial adapter, and am able to control the TV from software by sending 7-byte control codes.

Here's my question: is there a comprehensive list of codes available for this particular model? The lists I've found are for older models. Some codes don't do quite what they say on my model, and I suspect there are a lot of controls for my model which aren't listed at all.

If someone has this list, it'd save me a lot of trial and error. Thanks!

Question

Why are the resolution specs for PN60E6500EF different than the resolution specs for PN60E550D1F?

Resolution Specs for PN60E550D:

Native Resolution 1920 x 1080 (Black & White)
Resolution 1080p Vertical

Resolution Specs for PN60E6500EF

Native Resolution: 1920 x 1080
Resolution 1080p

What is the significance of the terms "Black & White" and "Vertical" for the 550D and not for the 6500E? Does this imply a superior resolution for the 6500E than the 550D?

We have conferred with our resident HDTV expert who indicates that a few more pairs shouldn't be an issue. He has heard of some limitations, but that's when the number of glasses exceeds 10 pairs.

Thank you for contacting Samsung.

The 600 Hz sub motion field is a technology that helps to reduce the effects of "phosphor lag" on a plasma TV in order to provide smoother frame transitions and a better viewing experience.

600 Hz Sub-field motion takes a standard video signal and multiplies the frames being sent to the TV. So in the amount of time that an older plasma would have sent 1 frame, a plasma with 600 Hz sub-field motion would send 10 frames. Sending more frames allows the picture to have a smoother frame transition from one frame to the next. The TV is still showing the picture at the same refresh rate but will have a smoother appearance. Because the picture is still at the same refresh rate the info box on the TV will not display 600 Hz but the normal 60 Hz; this is normal.

The 600 Hz Sub-field motion is a feature that is always on and does not need to be adjusted like the 120 Hz or 240 Hz on an LCD or LED TV. The info box will never display 600Hz, but it will display the info of the incoming signal (which is usually 60 Hz)

We are unfamiliar with what feature you speak of. We have looked on the product support page, in the user manual online and even conferred with our resident television expert, who indicated he wasn't even familiar with this. He did recommend you make sure you do not have closed captioning enabled, as this is what you may be referring to. Please review the following guide to learn more about this feature.

If you have not already done so, you will need to review the instructions below to connect the TV to your home network wirelessly.

Once that's complete, you will need to activate Smart Hub in order to access the TV's web browser.

Question

Adobe Flashplayer cannot be downloaded.

Streaming audio and video files from Youtube, etc. cannot be played on the Samsung Browser due to outdated Adobe Flash Player. Attempts to download latest version of Adobe Flashplayer fails.

Samsung, you need to fix this with a firmware update as soon as possible. Its not a "Smart TV" if it cannot support simple flash player applications.

Why was this limitation not disclosed in the product literature? A lot of unhappy customers regarding this.

Please fix it NOW!!!!

Thank you for contacting Samsung. We understand your frustration. While Samsung is constantly pushing the boundaries of technology for our TVs, there still remain limits. One of these is user-upgradeable plugins. At this time, the Flash functionality is limited somewhat. Question

keyboard support standard on apps with search function

I was wondering why the apps for youtube and others do not support keyboard use. It seems a bit archaic to scroll through letter choices with arrow keys on an app that should assist you in browsing and finding content rather than be LESS easy to use than the regular browser lol. Plus the fact that the directional keys on the remote are right next to the return and exit buttons makes it way too easy to click the wrong thing anyway. I mean, better than the directional key but an incredibly more useful intuitive design would have prompted the use of the number pad as a basic telephone/cell phone number/keypad with the classic 2 abc 3 def 4 ghi etc so you could type it in. Please let me know who I can encourage to update some apps with some sweet functionality to aid in my efforts to conquer the internet and the apps on my beautiful new samsung tv.

We have conferred with our resident home theater specialist and he indicates that streaming 3D is possible, but since extra data is being transmitted, you may be better off copying the files to a flash drive and plugging that directly into the TV, especially if the computer is transcoding the video files.
