Question

Should I alter/adjust the factory presets for the display?

I read somplace (during some of my online research before purchase) that if some settings are too high then it could affect the product negatively. i think the picture looks great, but i want to do the right thing for the TV to ensure (as much as possible) long life.

The PN58C550 does actually have a 1-tuner PiP system. 1-tuner systems only allow for one cable connection to be shown at a time on the screen. In order to connect it up, you will need a hard line going into the TV (cable coax) and an active secondary connection (HDMI, component, PC). To activate it up, either head into the TV's menu or click the Tools button on the remote control.

Again, you will need both a coax connection and a secondary input connection in order to properly activate and view PiP on your set. If your option is grayed out, this means that one of the required connections is not active and connected properly.

There are two different kinds of active burn in protection features on the Samsung Plasma TVs. The first one is PixelShift (PixelShift can be adjusted on or off and allows for intensity level adjustments). This feature will basically move all your pixels, uniformly, a predetermined amount of pixel spaces in order to prevent a pixel from being lit in a specific pixel space for too long. However, if ghosting does occur, you can use the other anti-burn in feature, called Scrolling, to help refresh the screen. The Scrolling feature will "scroll" a gradient of black and white across the screen to help eliminate the ghosting, if any, that has accumulated on your panel. Both of these features can be found in the Picture Options section of the TV's menu.

Question

How do I adjust the picture to fit my screen?

No matter what setting I choose for screen size, the picture seems to be stretched out and a portion of the picture is cut off. While watching a football game, I can only see a portion of the score bar on the top of the screen

I would be happy to help you out with this. In order to change the aspect ratio (screen size), you will want to head into the TV's menu, then to the picture sub-menu. Once there, head into the "Picture Options" option. Within that option, you will see the "Size" adjustment. Clicking into that will allow you to change the picture size of the screen. If you are using a set top box or cable box, please also adjust the aspect ratio on the set top box.

My TV is not recognizing the 1080p video signal from Directv HD receiver.

Some DIRECTV receivers have trouble with this issue. Reset the receiver and try again. Make certain your blu-ray player and TV are set to send and receive 1080p material. Read your manuals and try again.

Question

How do I fine tune the picture for this tv?

Just purchased the PN58c55o and mostly love the picture quality. But the overall picture seems too dark. I've adjusted the "picture mode" from "Standard" to "Dynamic" which helps brighten up the picture but then over-exagerates the colors and adds a pronounced graininess to facial images. Is there any picture tweaking I can do on my own to resolve this? Or is this the best picture I'm going to get?

Please check if you have enabled any MAC Address based access to Internet in your router. If that is the case then, you may have to find the MAC address of your TV and enter in the router and see if that resolves.. good luck !

Although this model does not have direct access to Samsung Apps (like Netflix, Pandora or YouTube), it can access App content through a 2010-11 Samsung BD player (the blu-ray player will handle the Internet content processing). Unfortunately, I currently do not have any information on Samsung Apps or Smart TV being added to the 2010 and earlier models that do not offer said features.

Thank you for the opportunity to assist you,

As a matter of fact, the C550 will offer both a 3.5mm RCA audio output (use a "Y" 3.5mm to RCA RED/WHITE cable) and an optical output. Both of these outputs are located on the back of the TV, right next to each other.

In order to access content from a USB device, first connect the deivce to the USB port on the TV. Then set the device to Mass Storage mode. If the device is compatible with the TV, it should allow for media playback. The device in question must meet all of the following requirements:

1. It must offer a Mass Storage Mode
2. It must be formatted in a FAT file system
3. It must not contain any DRM content. DRM content is not supported by the Samsung TVs

Question

Screen will get off center and leave a large black area on the last side of screen

The screen gets off center and the only way to correct is to go to tools and choose self diagnose and go to test picture, picture turns to a beach and then ask if the problem still exist, at that time it is corrected and then goes back to its normal screen aligment, it only stays that way for short time and then the process needs to be done again to re-adjust the screen.
