Do you have a cable box? If so there are probably sound outputs to use for your surround sound.

From the available information, the D440 will only offer an optical audio output for a connection with a sound system that offers an optical input.

you can not do this from the T.V. alone. it is not a smart/internet capable device however you can hook up your computer to the TV and use the TV as a monitor. (note: this may require additional cable) Or you can purchase devices that will have the option built in. examples would be Wii, Xbox 360, PS3, BluRay player, Roku or maybe even check out Google TV or Apple TV adapters. there are a lot of options out there you just need to find the one that works best for you.

Although this model does not have direct access to Samsung Apps (like Netflix, Pandora or YouTube), it can access App content through a 2010-11 Samsung BD player (the blu-ray player will handle the Internet content processing). Unfortunately, I currently do not have any information on Samsung Apps or Smart TV being added to the 2010 and earlier models that do not offer said features.

Thank you for the opportunity to assist you,

Was it on a TV or monitor previously that supported 1080p?
First check to make sure that the output settings on the Xbox 360 are not set to 1080p. If it is, it will not display correctly. You can connect to the old device if available or connect via composite video to check settings. Change the output settnings to 720p and try again. Of course it's alway possible that it's just a faulty cable as well.

Hope this helps you get started.

Unfortunately, headphone jacks are not available on this unit; however you can still connect headphones to this unit with a third party headphone device (either through RCA, 3.5mm jack or Optical). Since the audio outputs on this unit are a fixed pass through type of connection, you would need an intermediary device to control the volume, since the TV does not have control of the volume coming out of the analogue and digital audio outputs. Additionally, the Samsung TVs will not offer direct wireless connectivity to wireless capable headphones.

Question

How do I get closed captioning while muted?

I just purchased a model PN51D430A3D (which your site doesn't recognize as a valid model number). If I select closed captioning, then mute, the closed captioning disappears. Since the only time I need closed captioning is while the set is muted, this is unsatisfactory. How can I see the closed captioning while the sound is muted?

I did this. Felt goofy, but....

[When I did this procedure, I assumed all liability for any damage that could have resulted. I am sure you will, too]

1. Place a large comforter on the floor.

2. Place tv face-down on the comforter

3. Remove the 4 screws from the stand holder.

4. Take a large flathead screwdriver and place the tip against the top of the plastic stand mount. In other words, with the screwdriver handle pointing towards the top of the TV and the blade towards the bottom. You are trying to touch the plastic firmly, yet not damage the very light gauge metal.

5. Strike the screwdriver with your hand firmly at the top of the handle. [5-10 lbs pressure maybe. I used a Craftsmen 5/16]

6. Plastic stand mount will snap out.

7. Sheepishly reassemble the stand correctly.

Be sure that your cables from the Wii are connected to the AV inputs on the TV. My Wii works fine with this setup. Don't use the dvd player or other device to "piggy-back" the Wii signal as this will cause the problem you are having. Hope this helps.
