You can use either a VGA cable with an audio cable or HDMI. VGA is the blue port on your computer, and the audio cable would have to be plugged into the headphone jack and then into the tv, HDMI will transmit both Audio and Video.

My 2010 set, purchased in the USA, lists 350 watts on the label on the back. Yet, the specs from the company I bought it at listed 139 watts. The real answer is from my Kill-A-Watt monitor that can be used to show the wattage from any electrical product. Shows 101 to 121. Very happy about that.

On my 2010 model acquired in the US, the back of the set lists 350 watts, however, the online specifications where I bought it showed a maximum of 139 watts. When I received it, I plugged into a Kill-A-Watt monitor and am very surprised to see the wattage only go between 101 and 120 watts.

Although I may not have the wattage numbers readily available to me (since daily usage varies from owner to owner depending on settings and content), I can say that most all current generation Samsung TVs are EnergyStar4.0 compliant. This ensures the best possible performance with minimal power usage.

I had the same issue and it was in the set-up in the Time Warner digital cable box. The box was originally used with a 35 inch tube TV and was "booted-up" with that TV. When I got my 50 inch Samsung plasma, I hooked the cable box to the TV through HDMI cables. It turns out that when you boot up the cable box using coaxial cables to the tube TV the cable box does NOT communicate with the TV. When using HDMI cables to a digital TV, the cable box communicates with the TV through the HDMI cable. You need to reboot the cable box by completing powering down the cable box (unplug the box from the 120 volt power supply), then plug it back it and let it reboot. Make sure the cable box is set to 1080i, 16.9 and the "stretch" settings. Kinda just like your home computer.....when it is not working right, sometimes rebooting by totally disconnecting from power supply and powering back up will fix the problem. After I did this, the picture even improved!

I forgot to add, make sure your cable box setting is set at the c550's highest resolution which is 1080. If you set the cable box output to multiple settings (i.e. 480, 720) the picture will shift to the right and be extra large. Contact your cable company and find out how to set the resolution in the cable box settings.

Do you have it hooked up through a cable box HDMI slot? This happened to me also. My cable box HDMI output was bad. I received a new box and it works. Or you can switch to component cables and it should work right away if the HDMI from cable is the problem.

Please check that you have M8 as these should fit all of the C540/550/590 Plasma TV's from 42-80" in size.

Question

Why do i have sync issues using the USB Media Play?

1st Question
I am attempting to play a movie from either a usb flash drive or a usb external hard drive. I'm not on a network. I simply move the video from my computer to the external hard drive, plug it into the side port, and hit the media play button. I select my movie and it starts.

The movie starts well as long as i don't touch anything. Audio syncs with Video.

But when i fast forward or rewind, the audio comes out of sync and I can't figure out how to get it back into sync.

2nd Question
Why do you think some .mkv files play in media play, but other .mkv's might not?

Thanks.

1st and second question may answer each other, but I am not sure. I know with mine I must be mindful of the bitrate, you should be able to convert any media with common free converters such as videomonkey for mac, to match the output on your tv. You'll have to refer to the specs in your manual to know what it likes best.

.MKV file are simply a shell for a AV file, not an actual file like an .avi, there is NO way of telling what format a .mkv is in by simply looking at the path of the title. You must hit properties or info, dependent on OS to see exactly what codec is necessary for the source video/audio file. I have found it is safest to downgrade if you will the quality of the video format over trying to get the file perfect especially if you are a little green at all this still.

Hope this helps

Follow up info. It turns out the longer I let the movie play, the more out of sync it becomes. I thought it was just related to fast forward and rewind functions but it turns out that even when i press play and just let it go, i still get out of sync after about 5 minutes.

All Samsung TVs also come with built in speakers that are down firing and power cords; however, they do not come with A/V cables (like HDMI cables) included.

The Touch of Color feature is a bezel design that breaks away from the traditional single color bezels available on many TV panels on the market. However, there is no light source beneath the panel that would illuminate or emit light of any sort, and subsequently, there is no option in the Options Menu to select that.

It is likley that your HT-C6500 is not passing HDMI audio through to the TV, this could either be by design or because you need to change a setting on the HT-C6500. Check the manual that came with the C6500.

You could also determine that the STB is working correctly by bypassing the HT-C6500 temporarily and connecting the STB directly to the TV and make sure the sound is coming from the STB.

A common question, these plasma panels have a subfield drive refresh rate of 600Hz which no matter the input signal it will continue at that frequency. However...

The frequency number that you see listed on the screen is that of the input signal, generally for TV/cable and video sources it will be 60Hz, and for Bluray it could be either 60Hz, or if the setting is available for film sources and is set on your player, 24Hz.

So essentially, when displaying a 60Hz signal the screen gets refreshed 10 times a second, and with 24Hz signals, 25 times a second.

For comparison, the original LCD panels had a 60Hz refresh, then that was improved a couple of years back to 120Hz and now the latest LCD refresh rate appears to be 240Hz.

answer 2
All Samsung Plasma TVs offer a technology called 600Hz subfield motion. Basically for the 600Hz sub-field motion, the television shows you the image at the same refresh rate (60Hz) but flashes the individual pixels faster so the images appear smoother then on a regular 60Hz panel. In this case it flashes the pixels 10 times faster then normal. So 60 fps x 10 sub-field = 600 flashes of the pixels per second. This makes the images seem much smoother on the screen but it does not increase the actual frames per second. It is not exactly the same as the Hz on the LCD/LED Samsung TVs (which ultimately raise the frame rates of the images, giving you a "Hyper-Real" image) and can not be toggled on or off since it is always on. . The reason you are seeing the 60Hz in the info box is because the info box only displays the signal’s actual Hz and screen resolution and not the info of the picture on the screen after the TV processes it. Meaning that the 60Hz you are seeing is the signals actual Hz and not the screen’s Hz.

Do you have the Scientific Atlanta Explorer 8300 cable box or something similar hooked up through HDMI? Make sure your cable box setting is set at the c550's highest resolution which is 1080 and this is the only output resolution checked. If you set the cable box output to multiple settings (i.e. 480i, 720p) the picture will shift to the right and be extra large. To access settings, on your remote there is a button that says "settings". Click that and then select "more settings", or something similar. Go down the list and find "select output". Then only select 1080 resolution. If you can't find the setting, contact your cable company and find out how to set the resolution in the cable box settings.

Or you can just hook up through component cables and your issues should be fixed because digital circuitry is not the same through component cables.

It is my understanding that in order for the subtitles to work (or captioning), the video file must have an extension that points the TV to a specific file. That said, I do not believe that MP4s offer this sort of extension (although MKVs should offer this).
