Hi there davesvette! The main difference between the B450 and the A450 is that the B450 is the newer model , has a higher contrast ratio and has an updated ToC Red bezel.

I hope that helped you out :)

The 3D tech of previous generations will not be compatible with the 2010 3D technology. Unfortunately, that technology was specifically designed to be used with a PC, while the 2010 3D system is a part of the HDMI 1.4 standard and is used by many different manufacturers.

The PN50A450 doesn't support an emitter for current 3D active shutter viewing. Samsung's 3D TV models have the emitter built in to the TV.

Although this model does not have direct access to Samsung Apps or any other internet content, it can access internet content through a 2010 Samsung BD player (the blu-ray player will handle the Internet content processing).

Unfortunately, Samsung can not suggest any specific calibration numbers since every calibration has to be done based on the preferences of the customer performing the low level calibration.
Perhaps other users on this forum may be able to better help you out.

Great question! In the Samsung Plasma line, only the 650 and higher units offer PiP. Any of the units under the 650 line will not offer the PiP feature.

The best way to clean the tv is to use a Swiffer duster...it does the best job on cleaning dust from the casing without leaving those annoying scratches all over it.

For the screen, use the duster 1st, then a good quality microfiber cloth and water. When you use the cloth, get it wet, wring it out till no water drips from it, then lightly wipe the screen.

The dry Swiffer dusters are great because they attract dust and a light pass over is all that's needed.

The 3D technology on the pre-2010 models (the "A" and "B" models) will not be compatible with the 2010 "C" 3D technology. The 2010 3D technology is made possible by the HDMI HighSpeed (1.4) standard, which the previous years models do not offer (they only have HDMI 1.3), and a special panel material used to facilitate the 3D tech.

Hi there Dalefromtheglove, thanks for the question. The PN50A450 is a 720p set, so it will not display at full1080p. You will still be able to play your Blu-rays from a Samsung BD player on this set with out a problem if you connect it through an HDMI cable. Connecting it that way will ensure you the highest possible picture and sound quality. As far as the refresh rate is concerned, the Samsung Plasma TVs are higher then 120Hz natively, so you will see enhanced movement from the display.

Question

Seeing blocky pixels of a large size as the TV processes the signal.

Hello,

I wanted to ask about an issue I am experiencing with my PN50A450.

When watching anything with close-up shots and motion of the subjects on the screen during movies or sporting events, I am noticing blocky pixels of a large size as the TV processes the signal.

I called Samsung last year to comment on this, and it was suggested that it may be due to the signal I was getting via my attic TV antennae.

Now, recently signed up with cable TV with HD service, and still see the same thing, so am at a loss and a bit disappointed that a $900 HD TV is doing this!! Is anyone else noticing this?!?

Will the TV firmware be able to be upgraded to fix this?

Thank you,

Matt B

I'm sorry to hear that you're having this issue.

If you're only experiencing this on some channels, the broadcast signal can be weak or compressed, and this can cause some picture artifacts that are less than pleasing.

You also may experience some improvement by adjusting the settings in the cable/sat box, Blu-Ray players and other attached devices to ensure that you're receiving the highest resolution possible. Component and HDMI cables are also recommended for HD viewing, and can also be the source of some of these symptoms.

If none of these suggestions help, you may want to have your unit inspected, and you can do that at 800-SAMSUNG or filling out the online request form here:

Unfortunately, the 2009 and earlier model series Samsung TVs and Samsung Blu-Ray Players (not the year they were produced, just the year of the model implementation) will not be eligible for upgrades to the 2010 Samsung Apps Engine or 3D at this time. For the TVs, the panel material isn’t able to display 3D content and the internal hardware (processors, HDMI ports, etc.) on both the TVs and the BD players are not compatible with 3D, the 2010 Samsung Apps Engine or any other 2010 feature.
