Customer questions and answers for samsung NP900X3A
Question
Virtual memory settings and SSD lifetime
Since SSD have a limited number of writes before they start failing, I was wondering what pagefile parameters would be optimal. I thought that I could live with no pagefile at all since 6GB of RAM sounded sufficient, but with those settings I frequently find myself confronted with a low-memory alert if I use Google Reader and even one instance of Visual Studio or Premiere at the same time. What are people's experience in the matter? What pagefile settings do you use? Does anyone know how much pagefile usage can affect SSD lifetime?

With the screen on full brightness, wireless on, and a difficult program running, 2.5-3.5 hours is about what I get. Wireless draws a lot of power from a laptop. That alone is probably costing you 1 to 1.5 hours.
Extreme example: Lowest brightness, wireless off, and a very easy program, I've gotten 6 hours. (playing an old DOS game in a room with all the lights off, so I had the screen turned down)
In addition to previous answers, consider also that a battery would last less as time passes. Check the information provided by the manufacturer regarding battery life and ways to maximize it.

I've experienced about 2.5-3.5 hrs as well on my series 9 laptop with internet surfing with the back light keyboard off and sound off, and screen brightness low. I try to be near a power outlet, so that I wont have to worry about the power going out when working at a cafe. But my samsung netbook has the best battery life of about average of 9 hrs!

You need the Samsung Micro HDMI to VGA Adapter for Series 9 Mfr Part#: AA-AH1NAMB/US For more information visit: http://www.samsung.com/us/computer/laptops-accessories/AA-AH1NAMB/US
I have heard there are limitations to the length of the VGA cord you can use with the adapter and display issues if the VGA cord is longer than 8 feet.

More details would be a great help. However you should be able to connect your Digital Projector via a standard VGA Cable. Some projectors take a proprietary cable to connect to a computer. Most of the time it is at least a VGA + USB on the computer side and a lot of projectors have a DVI connection on its side of the connector cable. If its not the cabling, then Windows should autodetect the other 'monitor' and you will be able to right click on the desktop and adjust video settings to eithe duplicate the Display from the desktop to the projector or extend the desktop to it giving you a screen which is only seen on the projector.

I've answered this elsewhere. The problem is the Duralumin case and, no, Samsung does not have a fix available and new models are not fixed (as far as I know).
I can't speak for the Broadcom WiFi card, but for the Intel card (and perhaps also for the Broadcom card), the issue is with the default power management settings. If the laptop works well when plugged in and using the "Samsung Optimized" power plan but works poorly when not plugged in, this is your issue.
To fix it, go to Control Panel (View by: Small icons) *or* right click on the battery icon in the system tray area, then select Power Options. For the current plan, click Change plan settings, then click Change advanced power settings. Expand Wireless Adapter Settings, expand Power Saving Mode, then set Plugged in: to "Maximum Performance" (see screenshot). This is the only setting that works properly--I've tried all of them. Make this change for all of the power plans, or at least all of the ones you intend to use.
rhelmer is correct. Thank you! Works like a charm.

Shouldn't hurt anything if you used the cancel button when the update was in progress. It'll just ask you to install the updates again. Run the updates when you have time to let her sit.

I am using the NP900X3A with an external keyboard, monitor and mouse when at my desk in my office. Many laptops have an option where they can be used while closed as long as there is an external monitor, keyboard and mouse attached. Whenever I close the lid on the machine it goes to sleep. Is there a way to disable this feature, so that it can be used "docked" (lid closed). I have a generic dock that I use with the machine to provide an extra monitor keyboard and mouse. Thanks for your help!

Yes, the settings you will need to change are under Control Panel->Power Options->Advanced
Find the setting for closing the lid and change it to 'do nothing'. You'll need to change this for both plugged in and battery for Power Saver, Samsung Ballanced, and High Performance. Six places total. Of course, you can customize this if, for example, you want it on while plugged in, but to sleep if on battery.

There is a build-in power saver setting, that keeps your battery healthy by letting it charge till 80%. If you want to disable it, look for an Energy setting in the Control Center.

Usually, the harddisk volume is given in GB (gigabyte) according to the International System of Units (SI), where 1GB means 1.000.000.000 bytes. Computers use the binairy system where 1GB equals 1.073.741.824 bytes, so there's a first big difference. The rest is 'lost' in a hidden recovery partition, that you use to.. recover your system (duh!). Type 'disk management' in the start menu and you can check it yourself (don't delete that partition!)
I believe there is only 14" or 15.6" options in this model. However, Samsung does have the RFZ11 Series, which is somewhat similar to the Q430. The RFZ11 has a 17.3" Screen and is about $200 more in price.

No it does not yet. Rumors that future versions will have a SIM card for this.
I think you're asking if you can install a SIM card (and have 3G). Those models are not sold in the USA (yet). I've seen pictures of Korean models that have a SIM card slot.
After performing an upgrade to Windows 7 Professional on my Samsung 9 laptop, some of the Fn+F... key combinations are not functioning. For example, Fn+F2,F3 for screen brightness, Fn+F5 for touchpad and Fn+F10,F11 for volume controls work, while Fn+F7,F8 for backlit keyboard brightness doesn't. Is there a keyboard driver available to restore those funcions? I was unable to find one amoung available downloads.
Install the Samsung "Easy Display Manager." Although it is poorly named, it does include the hotkey drivers (as well as on-screen indicators for the settings you are adjusting -- likely the reason for the name). This software is avaiable at the Samsung Download Center once you select your laptop model.

You can find instructions for upgrading the memory in the User’s Guide. To access the User’s Guide click Start > All Programs > Samsung > User’s Guide.
But it will void your warranty see more here http://www.samsung.com/us/support/SupportOwnersFAQPopup.do?faq_id=FAQ00032143&fm_seq=32311
Power supply is now available under accessories section
This is where the beauty and functionality of the USB connector comes in. I use an inexpensive, powered Tritton usb notebook dock. It provides a way to connect a monitor and several peripherals, including mouse and keyboard. All I have to do is plug in the computer via a single USB cable. My stereo output also comes through the dock.

Question
Samsung Laptop: 900x3a - Does not display screen on external monitor
I'm connecting a Samsung 9 Series Laptop (Model#: 900X3A) to a 27" Samsung, P2770HD external Monitor using a Micro HDMI (PC) to HDMI (Monitor) cable. The external monitor is recognized by the laptop, indicates it's connected, no signal is displayed on the external monitor.
The only thing I can think it would be is a faulty cable - Does anyone have a specific suggestion on a Micro HDMI to HDMI cable that works well with this laptop?
If you've had this same issue and it wasn't cable related, can you please advise on troubleshooting this?
Thanks!

Not sure that you have the same issue as me but there is a known issue with the micro-HDMI to VGA adapter not working with projectors/monitors when the cable to the projector/monitor is longer than say 6-8 ft or so. I believe Samsung is working on a new dongle that will resolve this.
