Question
DVD Player issue
The CD/DVD eject functionality is not working on my Samsung Series 7 laptop. I can see the eject icon on the screen when I press the eject button, but nothing is happening. The CD or DVD comes out only when I restart the window. The eject works right before windows starts loading up.

You need to configure it Samsung Easy Settings software. But before that you need to install both software and drivers for the Intel and ATI graphics chips; The latest versions as well. In the Easy Settings application you can set when to switch when a certain application starts. I haven't used the features myself but that is what I saw when I was browsing the featers of the Easy Settings application. For further instructions on how to use it I suggest looking in the help files of the applicion.
I had this same issue as well. I called support and I was told "it is a known issue," and that I can expect a call from Tier 2 support in a couple of days. I will update my answer when I get a response or solution.
The other poster says this should be configured in Easy Settings, but then goes on to say he hasn't tried it himself. If he had, he would have learned that the feature is not working at present, no matter the settings in the Easy Settings software. As I said, Samsung support says this is a known issue. To escalate this matter, I suggest calling support.
Updated info: it seems that the switchable graphics will not activate for software using OpenGL. That includes a lot of games, as well as Photoshop, Aftereffects, etc. It's speculated that this has to do with the way AMD/ATI implemented switchable graphics because another laptop manufacturer with the same card has fixed the problem by introducing a manual graphics switch. Samsung thus far hasn't acknowledged the problem aside from the occassional reported statement from support reps (like the one who told me it was a known issue.)
There are a number of Series 7 owners who are talking about this issue on Notebookreview. Google: "Series 7 Chronos All Models: Push for SAMSUNG to implement FIXED MODE in BIOS". People are also posting on Samsung's facebook wall, and Tweeting Samsung about this. You should do all of that, as well as call support and escalate the issue.
I think this is all fixed now...probably through a software update. I can right click on my desktop and select the option to control the switchable graphics per application.

I think this has happened to me once or twice. When you have this problem, just go to Start Menu>Computer. Right click on your CD/DVD drive and click on "eject".
The eject button does seem unresponsive sometimes but it helps to restart.
Make sure that you install the SAMSUNG Easy Settings software. You can find it under the software for the NP7005A system. I don't know why they just didn't replicate all the software packages for the NP7005B system since the systems are practically the same.
An additional note; Once this is installed all the other function keys work... like brightness, volume, disk drive eject, external monitor, fan speed, and wireless, as well as others that don't have a function key for.
Personally I'm not a fan of extra little software like this, being that I am a high level user of computer systems, but I will have to make an exception to this one since it makes all the little extra features work for the laptop system. Mainly because they use up additional resources.
I had this happen to me and after fighting with it for several days I accidentally hit the burn function key one time under (window's multimedia) and the cd flew out! It happened again a couple of days later and I did the same thing and it worked? Now all is normal so I don't know what finally fixed it but obviously it was a quick solution for me.

Providing your model is a NP700Z5 Chronos 7 series, if it is equiped with a DVD drive it would be located on the right hand side of the laptop, it is a slot that is about 5" long, if you do not see a slot on the right side then you do not have an optical drive.
Make sure that it is not disabled in the BIOS. Then check your Device Manager in windows to make sure that it is not disabled there. Then make sure that Easy Settings application is installed and working properly. If it is still missing or not working, the Optical Disk Drive then contact Support to get your ODD replaced and fixed.
On my laptop, the computer would not recognize a DVD, and this worked for me: 1) Insert a DVD or CD-ROM into the drive 2) Go to Windows Explorer, right-click on "Computer" in the left-hand bar, click "Manage" from the menu. 3) Go to "Disk Management" under the "Storage" heading of the left-hand-side tree. You will hopefully see a listing for the DVD you have inserted. 4) Click on the DVD volume, then from the "Action" menu go to "All Tasks" then "Change Drive Letter and Paths" - select a drive letter (D:, E:, or whatever your choice) - your DVD should now be visible under My Computer (and the eject key will work as well).

Hi, I posted a possible answer to this question earlier, but it looks like it may have been removed. I suggested that the part Samsung AA-AH1NAMB/US Micro HDmi To VGA Adapter *might* be the part you are looking for, but added that I couldn't guarantee. Well, I received this part today and I can confirm that it is NOT the part you need for the Samsung series 7 Chronos. It looks like this part is probably for the series 9. Another possibility may be to use the standard HDMI out if your projector supports HDMI in. I tried this with a standard HDMI-to-HDMI cable and it works very well. -William

Make sure you install the proper Samsung Easy Settings version... as in Vista or Windows7 and 32bit or 64 bit. If you have the proper ones make sure the one you have is not corrupted otherwise redownload and reinstall.
Download and install Samsung Easy Settings software. Once it is properly installed for your version of windows and bit version (32 or 64) all the hotkeys will function correctly.

If my other answer gets posted, ignore it, I was wrong. First download Easy Software Manager off of samsungs site if you don't have it. Then in the program go to all software and scroll down to multimedia. There you can install YouCam and the Media Suite. Happy computing! - Jacob
You can try contacting Samsung support. But if you ask me Cyberlink programs aren't very good. For photo editing, use Picasa by Google. (free) For everything else windows already comes with great programs. Windows Live Movie Maker (video editing), Windows Media Player (burning) If you really want the suite though, and Samsung won't oblige than you can buy it from cyberlink's site. It's called Cyberlink Media Suite.
The laptop ships with 2 hard drives, but I want one big one. I know the dangers of having everything on a single drive, but 50Gigs of system drive are full after only 3 days. I need to combine them to make it usable.

The system has only ONE physical drive. It is partitioned into two hard drives. To fix this, first make sure EVERYTHING is on the C: Drive (main drive) and the other drive to be completely blank. Go to Start>Rightclick on My Computer> Manage> Storage>Disk Management. Here you can manage your partitions. DO NOT DELETE C: Drive!!! Delete the D: partition. This will give you unallocated memory. On your C: Drive, right click it, and extend it.
Hello, Small primary partition has troubled everyone. As one of the earlier user has mentioned you can extend the C partition.
Howevere, sometimes the option for extending the partition is not visible (its greyed out). My response may be helpful for such situation.....If you are facing this then, Read On....
First make sure that you have backed-up your data from the secondary partition / volume to either an extrenal drive / USB drive or a network location. You will loose it otherwise. Now follow these steps :
1. Reboot your machine and enter the Samsung Recovery Solution . When your machine boots, pay attention to the screen . Usually you have to press Function (F) 10 key repeatedly- (Your's could be different key combination ). 2. Press it repeatedly and u shd enter this Samsung Recovery Solution. 3. Once Samsung Recovery Solution starts, it will guide you through the process of extending the C partition, which is very easy to follow.
Hope this helps, because I see a lot of people troubled by small size of the primary particition (50 GB) that is on these machines. Hpefully it will not a big deal after following this solution. Good Luck !

You need to download and install the Samsung Easy Settings software. You can get it from the software section on the downloads page for your specific system. After that all the hotkeys will work as well.
You may also wish to download the LATEST Elan TouchPad driver from the Samsung support site. This update improved touchpad performance for me (version 10.7.5.0). Go to the Support page for your laptop model, click "Get Downloads," click "Driver" and look for "TouchPad driver."
IF your laptop is the NP700Z5B-W01UB, then the download page is here: http://www.samsung.com/us/support/downloads/notebooks/NP700Z5B-W01UB

Thank you for contacting Samsung.
We have conferred with representatives of our Laptop Support Group and they have stated that the original partitions could not be restored with the the restore CDs. They said that if you were to do a full restore with the Recovery Solutions CD, it would install Windows only.
For further guidance, we suggest you refer to the product page on our website, where you'll find a comprehensive troubleshooting guide, FAQs and How-Tos and product support videos, as well as product manual, driver, software and firmware downloads.
if your are speaking or turning both partitions back into one got to
start->type "disk"->click create and format hard disk->right click the volume that does not matter and click delete volume->then on the you want to make larger right click and hit extend-> set it up how you want and your done.
---personally done because of the partition it made me do at start up
Thank you for contacting Samsung. We need additional details in order to answer your question. Please specify what you're intending to switch and what do you mean by graphics? Please contact us at qasupport@sea.samsung.com

On my 700Z5B, it is on the bottom of the laptop. You should see some fairly large markings like the FC symbol, the UL symbol, and the no recycling icon. To the right of all that, in VERY small font, you will see the model number NP700Z5B and next to that you have S/N: HK... The latter is the serial number.

Download CPU-Z from its respective website; just google for it. Install it and run it. Select the memory tab and it will mention what type of memory it is using. Jot that info down you can go buy that memory at your store of preference.
If there are no icons on the F9 and F10 keys the laptop is not equipped, If equipped use the Fn key and the coinciding F9 or F10 key to operate the keyboard backlite.
First does your laptop have backlit keyboard? All models do not. If F9 and F10 keys do not have any blue icons on them then you do not have backlit keyboard. The Fn and F9/F10 keys control backlit keyboard.
I've had a system crash and am trying to re-install Windows 7. Should I choose installing an upgrade or a custom install?
Every effort at repairing the system failed. I worked with someone last night trying to repair it. I'm assuming that I should choose custom install since the hard drive is probably corrupted. Can anyone clarify it for me?

Thank you for contacting Samsung.
If you have not been able to back up any of your data, we recommend an upgrade install, as this will keep all of your data intact and will repair the Windows installations. Even though it's technically designed to upgrade older versions of Windows, it will repair a Windows 7 installation just the same. If your data is backed up, we recommend a custom install, as it should eventually offer you the option to do a complete reinstall of Windows 7.
If you have any additional questions about your laptop, we suggest your refer to your product manual or the product support page on our website, where you'll find a comprehensive troubleshooting guide, product support videos, FAQs and How-Tos, as well as manual, driver, software & firmware downloads.

1.Determine your 4G eligibility by contacting a nationwide service provider, such as Sprint. Currently, 4G connectivity is only available in certain areas. You can also determine your 4G eligibility online. 2. Subscribe to a 4G service provider in your area. Most service providers will require you provide them with your name, address, Social Security number and additional personal information to set up your account. You must subscribe to the service before you will be able to access the wireless signal. 3. Purchase a device that is already 4G capable. Most 4G service providers offer options for 4G-enabled devices including netbooks and smartphones. 4. Power on the 4G device and it will automatically connect to your wireless 4G service. Once connected, you can use the Internet and check your email from your mobile device.
Where can I find the software for the touchpad on my laptop?
So I have looked at the driver/software downloads and couldn't find the touchpad one. I am creating my own Windows 7 Ultimate install DVD but trying to find all the right drivers is difficult. I tried to download the samsung software (Easy Software Manager/Settings) but after installation they state the OS is not supported. The only difference is one is Home Premium and the other is 7.
