Go to your battery and click on "more power options" then click on "choose what closing lid does" change both settings to "nothing" and change the power button to "sleep." Then when your screen doesn't light to the proper brightness close your lid for about 3-5 seconds (this will not put it to sleep if you've changed the setting) and then open your lid back up. If it doesn't allow you to change the brightness after that, or doesn't light to the proper brightness within 2 seconds you probably have an issue with your display driver.

I do this myself and fixes it every time, just remember that to put it to sleep you must either press the power button or go to the start menu and do it from there.

Thank you for contacting Samsung.

You are welcome to review Microsoft's instructions on partitioning, but we are unaware of a way to re-partition a hard drive to make more room on an active Windows partition without a third-party tool such as the one you mentioned.

Open Disk Management by typing disk management or partition in the search box at the bottom of the start menu pane. Wait for it to load (may take up to a minute, but rarely takes more than 10 seconds.)

Select drive D, right click on it, and choose shrink volume. Once you figure out the size you'd like to cut from it, follow the steps on the screen and it'll take a few minutes to remove that pocket of space from the D partition. You'll see a new space appear on the screen.

Right click drive C, choose extend volume, fill in the numbers from the empty space and Windows will reallocate the piece you created, into drive C.

But you really should use the partitioning tool given by Samsung. If I remember correctly, you access it before Windows loads. I wiped my drive and installed a fresh set of Windows with just the basic set of bloatware needed to run the PC, so I honestly can't remember....

Hope this helps.

Great question. I'm not really aware of a way to access the partition management tool that comes preloaded with a Samsung notebook, other than by performing a 'Complete Restore'. It should be noted that data stored on the system drive would be lost unless doing a restore from a 'Complete Backup'.

Hopefully, this alternative solution proves useful:

I learned that you can use EaseUS Partition Master Home Edition (free) to re-partition your notebook's internal HDD. It can be done without performing a full system backup, although, I would recommend that you do. While not free, the trial version of Acronis TrueImage Home should work fine for this.

Again, do consider performing a backup before proceeding to do anything such as modifying or formatting disk partitions. It can spare a lot of trouble in the long-run.

Good luck!

Question

Problem with Easy Software Manager

The Easy Software Manager program updates most everything fine, but keeps saying that three of them "failed": Chipset Driver, Intel Rapid Storage Technology, and Adobe. I tried sveral times with the same result. Now it reminds me in a popup constantlyy that not all updates were successful, so I had to turn off the notification feature. None of these three items appear in the program list on the Manager. Now I have to wonder if they really need updating or if the Manager is just faulty. I bought the computer two days ago. Advice?

Alternatively, you can go to the component manufacturers websites. Thank you for being a Samsung customer!

Thank you for contacting Samsung. As the laptop and monitor are both working correctly when connected directly, we can't offer any resolutions as the behavior seems to be related to the HDMI switch product, even though you've tried multiple products. Please consult the documentation for that product to ensure that it's connected properly, including any power supply that may be necessary. We apologize that we can't be of further help. Sadly laptops are considered non-modular. The only things that you can upgrade is the RAM and HDD. It's unlikely you'd be able to get the new motherboard that would fit the case for the laptop.

my daughter received this computer 3 weeks ago for christmas. We have had over 6 blue screen shut downs. We brought it in for repair and they were unable to identify problem. She loves this computer and the store does not carry this model as it has been discontinued. The only replacement for the same price is a dual core and she has a quad core. Is there something you can do as this is still under warrenty? We do not want the discontinued model but at least one with a fast processor.

You probably have Battery Life Extender enabled in Samsung Easy Settings.

Question

I get error messages when running Media Player and no audio for webpages

The system sounds work and testing all the hardware and drivers everything checks out. However, when launching Windows Media Player it says that hardware is not working. Additionally, I cannot get audio on web pages. Any suggestions??

Thank you for contacting Samsung.

We'd like to recommend you call 1-800-SAMSUNG to speak with a live agent about your sound issue. A person in our laptop group will be better able to answer and help you resolve this issue.
