This has been a major issue with the NP-QX411 and other SAMSUNG PCs with the single mouse-pad and ELAN driver. I also require a solution as desribed below.
With most PCs becoming plasticized, the materials are good quality, the overall design is state-of-the art-and the Radeon graphics and other accessories are fabulous. This laptop offers the best price for any 64-bit Win-7 OS and I7 INTEL quad turbo-boost processor, at this time. The shift to a single mouse pad decreases the MTTF (probability) for wear-and-tear and the Elan pointing software promises great versatility. However, in practice, this potential enhanced functionality - even with the latest upgrade - has yet to overcome its downside instability. The consequential hassle makes even basic browsing and MS Office 2010 applications much more time consuming and frustrating. Thus, for now, I have compensated by incessant tweaking and using a wireless mouse. Moreover, before I was able to install all the standard software - not including, e.g, more specialized mathematical analysis apps - the power supply malfunctioned. So, like most less expensive PCs, after less than 2 months and much effort, also necessary to coordinate and wait further for this repair. It would of benefit for ELAN/Samsung to work the bugs out of the mouse-driver.
Based on this evaluation, until these nuances are adequately addressed, I cannot recommend major purchases to my secretarial staff, students, educators and especially businesses, executives, engineers, R&D staff, professors and directors. However, it will suffice for non-professional "home-use," by the casual teenage geek for video and social networking.

I think it just takes a little getting used to, cause i don't really feel this problem at all but my husband does when he uses my laptop, But you could try reducing the speed of your pointing device in control panel, i don't know but maybe it could help.

Using the factory settings, I would agree, the touch pad is very sensitive. However, all you need to do is go to the control panel and then adjust the touch pad sensitivity. Adjusting the sensitivity won't make things perfect, but it is 100 times better then the way it is setup at the factory. Go to Control Panel, Ease of Access Center, Make the mouse easier to use, then click on mouse settings, click on the ELAN tab, then Options, and finally click on the tab that says Additional and you can adjust the touch pad sensitivity here.

There is a new BIOS and updated drivers which go with Windows 8 which solves this problem. Click the Read More link on the Windows 8 Alert just below the top of this page. Then in the new page click the link for the "Samsung Windows 8 Software & Drivers update tool" - download and run. You will then have a new "Settings" icon on your screen. Click into the Settings and you can turn on and off the touchpad.
