You will not be able to play a DVD movie on any laptop with Windows 7 Starter. This is a limitation of that operating system. For full details of the limitations of Windows 7 Starter please see the following Microsoft article:
I bought this N120 in August 2009 and the monitor has recently started to flicker convulsively. See video attached below. Is this covered under warranty? Do I have to pay a deductible or anything? Please advise.
Submit a repair request to Samsung on this website. You'll have to upload your invoice to prove the Netbook is still under warranty. you receive a link and a pre-paid label. Back-up the whole computer, then package it & put the label on. Good luck. We sent ours out to have the screen repaired within 9 months of purchasing it.It was fixed..for about 6 months. Then the flickering started again. The repair only has a 30 day warranty.

upgrade from win xp to win starter
I purchased my netbook with xp installed and the samsung III support disk. I have recently come across a copy of win 7 upgrade from win 7 starter. Can I pay a fee to have the win 7 starter os disk sent to me even if it means I have to completely reformat my hard drive?
Samsung cannot actively support a netbook/notebook PC that has a different operating system than the one that came factory installed on the device, especially if the device is no longer covered by the parts/labor warranty.
That being said, Samsung does recommend Windows 7 for this model based on this specs page.
We also recommend you review this Microsoft article on Windows 7 Starter so that you understand that it's an operating system with a more limited feature set than the other versions of Windows 7 on the market. It addresses some of the more common consumer questions.
Based on our research, Windows 7 Starter is a version of the OS that was supplied to OEMs (Original Equipment Manufacturers) and came installed on many netbooks, but the overall consensus was that the features were too limited for the tasks and customization that customers were seeking. Microsoft has an Anytime Upgrade program in place for customers who own a PC with Windows 7 Starter who wish to upgrade to Windows Home, Home Premium or Ultimate, but we were unable to find a physical copy of Starter to purchase online. Therefore we recommend you proceed with caution. Always make sure you are purchasing a software product from a reputable vendor. Microsoft provides some helpful guides to help you gauge which version of Windows 7 is best for you.
