To me, it boiled down to the following:

Do I have an extra hardrive I can backup my current data to?
Do I have all the drivers for my hardware in the event that when I re-install I may not have access to this?
Do I have all the product keys/serial numbers to the applications I have installed?
Can I backup my browser bookmarks, aim logs, etc and easily port it back in?
Is there anything that I can do without?

If you don't have an extra hardrive or you can't backup your data, use ghost. If you can do all the above (plus whatever you need to backup), then I'd say do a fresh install. You'll get a clean install and can then decide to custom configure how you want windows 7 to store data by putting the minimal amount of work on your ssd.

At the end of the day, if you don't know what you're doing then use ghost. if you do, then the wheel is yours.

Hi. I have a question for the Samsung SSD 830 series and Magician. Anybody can answer me?
Why Magician don't recognized my SSD as native Samsung ( "No Samsung Brand SSD found in the system. This feature is supported only on Samsung Brand SSD" # though device have Part number MZ7PC128HAFU-000KN by Samsung Semiconductor as evidenced lable on SSD?
I have Samsung NP530U3C-A01 ultrabook. Windows 7 Ultimate x64. with Samsung Semiconductor SSD MZ7PC128HAFU-000KN.
When I try update FW through Samsung SSD Magician ver.3.1 - error message appears "No Samsung Brand SSD found in the system. This feature is supported only on Samsung Brand SSD", although utility correctly identifies all drive parameters in tab System Information - Drive Summary:

Since the Samsung SSD Magician can't recognize my SSD as manufactured by Samsung, respectively my attempt FW update via "Windows Solution" leads to error message appears - "Not a Samsung SSD".

I had a suspicion - that malfunctions Samsung SSD Magician are result
of errors in FW, or its older version.
Here htttp://www.samsung.com/us/support/owners/product/MZ-7PC128N/AM # - located firmware for notebook ver.CXM03B1Q MZ-
7PC128N, and here - http://www.samsung.com/us/support/owners/product/MZ-7PC128D/AM # same ver.CXM03B1Q - for desktop SSD MZ-7PC128D - both with the date 19.01.2012. As demonstrated bit-comparison - files are identical in both archives, that confirming FW versions identity.

As far as I could understand - and MZ-7PC128N and MZ-7PC128D and my MZ-7PC128HAFU based on the ARM Cortex 9 namely S4LJ204X01 chip that indicates about compatibility FW. The only thing that confuses for me - I could not find data about memory chips used in these three modifications nowhere.

Taking into account all the above, I tried to update my CMX02K1Q FW to CXM03B1Q via Bootable USB drive, but got an error message "No supported SSD#s# detected for fIrmware update!!!"

What's wrong with this SSD and Magician?

When the planned release Magicia version wich is able to work correctly with preinstalled SSD's?

Couple of ways. Use a program like Ghost or backup your data to a DVD or USB drive and do a clean install of the OS (preferred method). It will take some time but it will be better in the long term.

Yes, VERY EASY. Just installed it into my 2012 17inch Macbook pro. Same as my 2009. Flip over, make sure its off. Take out all the screws, and note there are 3 LONG ONES!! Then, from the back, or vent area, grag the metal and pull straight toward you, giving even pressure. You should hear some snaps. Don't worry, they are clips. Then with the cover off, Look at the bottom left, 17 inch, or bottom right for your HDD. Touch a metal surface to discharge all of your static. Then, with the same screwdriver you used to take off the back, find the black bracket just above the HDD. It has 2 black screws. Loosen them and take that off. Now from the pulltab, pull the HDD toward you, sliding it away from the opposite end of the clip. Now with it loos in the air, gently pry the SATA connections away from the HDD. There you have your HDD out! Now there are 4 Torx screws on either side. Take those and put them on your SSD. Reinstall in reverse. DONE! Takes less than 5 mins.

When will SSD Magician be updated to support the new firmware (CXM05H1Q)?

Got a new HP laptop with a MZ7PC128HAFU drive. SSD Magician shows the drive has a firmware version of CXM05H1Q, which isn't available in support yet. It also claims that the drive is not a supported Samsung drive. Has anyone heard if/when SSD Magician will get an update to support the new drives they are shipping?

Question

Generally slow random writes

As a general rule, my random writes are around 17k, when they should be at 30k. Occasionally, they are at 30k (once out of ten times re weekly optimization).

I have tried everything. iaSTOR, Trim enabled, let it sit with virus protection turned off, et cetera.

Lots of people seem to have this problem, but nobody seems to offer a solution.

Do I need to replace it?

Bought SAMSUNG SSD 830 Series 128Gb drive on 05/26/2012.
Now Samsung Magician shows 9% wear.

Techniques like TRIM and garbage collection will help maintain your solid state drive’s performance over time. TRIM can be used by downloading and running Samsung SSD Magician Tool. A complete write-erase of the entire drive will also improve performance, and there are 3rd party applications that can perform this function.

If you ever feel like the drive is not performing as expected, it has a 36-month warranty, so we recommend you consider filing a service request. Should you send the drive into a Samsung service center, it will be evaluated for damage and authenticated as having a serial number and model code that is covered by the warranty. After authentication, Samsung’s service center will replace the drive with another SSD and mail it back to you.

how to use over provisoning (newbe)

how to use it or do i need to?? i cloned my hd with ghost,it shows there are no partitions on the new ssd,everything is working properly,do i need to use ssd magican to change this???
