If the printer isn't recognized when plugged in via USB, try the following:
1) Change the USB cable
2) Try other USB ports on your computer
3) Plug the printer into another computer to see if the port on the printer is working.
If it's not giving you a local install option during the driver install, make sure you've got the latest drivers for your model from the website.
