Great question. Lets take the LN46B630 model number as an example. The first two characters in the model number always indicate what type of panel/backlighting technology the TV uses. The "LN" code is used for LCD units with traditional CCFL backlighting, while the "UN" code refers to the Samsung LED TVs (LCD panels with LED backlighting). The "PN" code refers to Plasma TVs. Next, the 46 in the LN46B630 refers to the size of the screen while the "B" refers to the model year of the TV (in this case, B is for 2009). Finally the 630 refers to the actual series and sub-series of the TV (6 series, 630 sub-series).

What should I use to clean the screen?

It's not real clear in the users manual. I did get a cleaning cloth with the TV but the diagram only shows to use it to clean the frame. Also, what kind of fabric is the cleaning cloth?

Although there are a number of cleaning products on the market that say they are “Safe” for LCD/Plasma panel usage, I recommend just using plain old purified water without any minerals and a non-abrasive cloth. Purified water with out minerals will also prevent any mineral deposits to collect on the screen.

Question

Compare the 630 with the 640

What are the main differences between the 630 and the 640 model. Is the picture quality the same? What is DLNA? Is the 630 widescreen? It did not say that on the specs but it did say it for the 640.

Unfortunately, the bit rating, panel model and color processing of our panels aren't listed in our specifications. However, the panel is optimized to work with the corresponding electronics to deliver a clear, competitive and impressive picture.

Thanks for your interest in the SamsungLN46B630. DLNA allows your TV to connect to your PC (through a router with either the wireless USB Linkstick -WIS09ABGN- or the Ethernet connection on the rear of the unit) to view file formats like MKV, AVI, and MPEG just to name a few. That said, you are correct in saying that the B630 does not offer DLNA, although the B650 does offer this feature. If you have have a large movie collection that you would like to view from your PC, then DLNA would be a good feature to have.

Unfortunately, the 2009 and earlier model series Samsung TVs and Samsung Blu-Ray Players (not the year they were produced, just the year of the model implementation) will not be eligible for upgrades to the 2010 Samsung Apps Engine or 3D at this time. For the TVs, the panel material isn’t able to display 3D content and the internal hardware (processors, HDMI ports, etc.) on both the TVs and the BD players are not compatible with 3D, the 2010 Samsung Apps Engine or any other 2010 feature.

This TV is a fully capable 120Hz set and offers the Auto Motion Plus feature that enhances said 120Hz image. This set will always upscale your 60Hz signal to 120Hz, regardless of any settings you may have active. However, in order to receive the full 120Hz benefit (judder and blur reduction, and frame interpolation), you will need to have Auto Motion Plus active. The reason you are seeing the 60Hz in the info box is because the info box only displays the signal’s actual Hz and screen resolution and not the info of the picture on the screen after the TV processes it. Meaning that the 60Hz you are seeing is the signals actual Hz and not the screen’s Hz. Currently there is no way to display the screen’s Hz in the info box. Coincidentally, the Samsung TVs can only accept a 60Hz signal and there are currently no consumer devices on the market that will transmit at over 60Hz (excluding some PCs).

Question

How to fix Apple TV problem?

My Apple TV worked fine for several months. Suddenly, a few weeks ago, I started having problems. The screen turns purple and the Apple TV stops working. It flashes on and off. I've Googled around and found it is common for Samsung to have problems with Apple TV. First, I don't know why it worked for so long and then suddenly not. Any ideas? Do I have to change any settings in service menu to make it work?

Thank you for contacting Samsung.

You would need to connect a Blu-ray player with HDMI cables in order to achieve 1080p. As for cable, most providers broadcast at 720p even with HDMI cables connected. Some providers offer the ability to rent 1080p movies as well. If you don't have cable and have connected an over-the-air antenna, some local channels broadcast their OTA signals at 1080p.

Thanks for the question. Although you can connect the TV to your PC and view Netflix as you would through a computer monitor, none of the Samsung TVs offer Netflix directly from a widget on the TV. That said, the B630 does not offer the Internet@TV function that includes widgets from services like Blockbuster on demand and Twitter.

The processor on the Samsung 120Hz/240Hz units will always display at their respective Hz. Even when the signal is only being transmitted at 60Hz, it will always display at 120Hz/240Hz since the processor is always upconverting the signal. Activating the Auto Motion Plus feature will allow for judder reduction and blurring reduction, depending on what settings you activate. This will enhance your 120Hz/240Hz viewing. The reason you are seeing the 60Hz in manual is because the TV only accepts a 60Hz and lower signal (due to FCC regulations, there are no consumer level devices that transmit at over 60Hz, except for some 3D devices). Meaning that the 60Hz you are seeing is the signals actual Hz and not the screen’s Hz. Again, your TV is always upconverting the image to 120Hz, but can only accept a 60Hz signal, which is the standard Hz all US signals are transmitted at.
