Question

LN46A550 clicking sound, no picture

I have a Samsung LN46A550 connected via HDMI cable to a Viacom HD/DVR cable box. It worked fine when I shut it off last night, now I get sound but no picture (not even a blue screen) and the TV just makes a clicking sound. I just tried replacing the cable box, same problem. Any ideas?

Question

Computer Driver

I am trying to show a computer image on the TV screen. I am able to get the picture to show, but I can not change the resolution to allow me to use the full screen. The help menus tell me to change the drivers for the remote monitor. However, when I try to do that there does not appear to be one for a Samsung that looks anything like my model. What driver should I use?

Unfortunately, there are no PC drivers for the Samsung TVs. While the TV is connected to your PC, I would suggest performing a power cycle of the PC to allow the PC to fully recognize the TV. Then try adjusting the resolution on your PC again. If you are still having an issue with this, please contact 800-SAMSUNG for further assistance.

Although this model does not have direct access to Samsung Apps or any other internet content, it can access App content through a 2010 Samsung BD player (the blu-ray player will handle the Internet content processing).

Your TV does not support apps and does not have the hardware to support apps or widgets. So the best way to connect you TV is if you connect a 2010 Blu-ray player with Internet@TV, then will be able to access and apps through the Blu-ray player and use them on your TV.

All current generation Samsung TVs are digital cable ready. All of our TVs include a coax ATSC/QAM tuner that handles digital and analogue broadcast signals as well. If your cable provider transmits HD over basic cable, then the TV will be able to display it. However, most premium HD content is encrypted by your cable provider. This encryption can not be decrypted by the TV and will require a set-top box.

Fixes widely reported issues. If your not having any noticeable issues i wouldn't bother with an upgrade. So always look online through this site to see what the upgrade is supposed to fix. Example, one upgrade was for whites looking pink. I didn't have an issue so i didn't bother with the upgrade. Never interrupt a firmware upgrade. They are usually quick

Question

I am seeing a hot pink tint in whites.

I've had the LN64A550 for 1.5 years and just recently the bright whites started getting a very noticeable flourescent pink tint. I reset the picture settings to factory defaults but that did not help. I also lowered the contrast from 95 (default standard) to 80, which helps but does not solve the problem. This issue occurs for video from both my cable box and my blue-ray player which are hooked up via separate hdmi cables so it isn't a source or cable issue. Does this indicate a hardware problem with the display itself or could it be a settings issue? Thanks!

If you purchase the unit within the North American Territories, it will only have support for NTSC/ATSC/QAM broadcasting systems and only 100v-127v 60Hz power. Outside of the NA territories you will not only need a converter for the broadcast, but also for the power.

Question

jerky motion on some ABC and FOX programs OTA

We have a LN46A550 that was purchased in 12/08. We live in the SF Bay area (zip 94002), some programs on KGO-HD (ABC) and KTVU-HD (Fox) are displayed with a jerky motion. This has started happening within the last month. It is on a two second cycle and the video speeds up and then slows down. We see this on certain shows (Seinfeld HD, Desperate Housewives, Legend of the Seeker) and /not/ on the commercials shown within those shows. Both KGO and KTVU are 720p and these affected shows are all 'shot on film' programs. We watch over the air with a roof top antenna. Friends watching the same shows OTA simultaneously on Sony sets do not see this.

I've seen postings on the AVS BB, that say that if the station has "Repeat Field Detection" or "Film Detection" active on their MPEG-2 encoder, it will cause this behavior on Samsung HTDVs.

Please advise....

Question

Can you manually add channels with the LN46A550?

I used the 'Auto Program' feature, but it missed a new digital channel in my area that I am pretty sure that I should get. Is there a way that I can program that one channel, then move my antenna until I have the best picture/signal for it?

Great question. as a matter of fact, you will be able to add channels that may either be coming in to weak or are not on your system at all. Please note: adding channels that may have poor reception may cause the picture to loose quality. First, you will want to head into the TVs menu. Navigate to the Channel sub-menu and then select the "Channel List" option. Once in this option, you will be greeted with a bar on the left hand portion of the screen that will allow you to choose what channel lineups you cqan currently view. In this bar, please select "All" (the selection is also indicated by a satellite dish). Once "All" is selected, you will have the ability to view every channel that the TV has detected on your system, regardless if it has a strong enough signal or not. If you then highlight a grayed out channel number, then press the "Tools" button on your remote, you will be given an option box that offers you the option to "Add" the channel back into your lineup. Doing so will add the channel, even if there is not content being transmitted over it currently.

In order to activate/deactivate your Power-on tone (if available on your TV), you can head into the TV's menu, then into the setup sub-menu. Once there you should see the "Melody" option. Click into that option and you should be given the ability to adjust the power on/off tone of the TV.
