Question

LCD TV 40" does not turn on, what's wrong?

There seems to be a problem with the switch in that I cannot turn on the TV. The light in the front start to blink like normal, but, then the light goes off completely. In a few seconds the light starts to blink again. This cycle happens forever. Sometimes it comes on and there is no problem turning it off.
I have tried using it with and without a cable box, there is no difference.

I'm sorry you are having issues with your TV set. Make sure that your power outlet is not sending erratic voltage to the TV it self. That can cause power surges and harm your TV. I would have also said to change your source, but it seems you have already tried that. If your TV continues to have issues, please contact service at 1-800-SAMSUNG for further assistance.

Question

Trying to decide between LN40B630 and LN40B650. What are the differences, especially regarding glare and horizontal viewing angle?

Is the Clear Panel as effective as the matte screen for this?

the B630 series has a more matte screen, and the B650 series have a glossy screen. If you have a well lit room I would opt for the B630. I cannot attest to the viewing angles, but I have the B630 and the viewing angle is very good.

Also it should be noted that the B650 has more "widget" in the infolink. I believe there is a widget for Youtube, among others. The B630 only has widgets for News, Stocks, and Weather.

Short answer: Yes

Long answer: Most TVs that have 120hz refresh rate should support Blu-ray 1080p/24 output. I have a PS3 and the 1080p/24 looks great with this TV.

The ToC feature on your TV is not a feature that can be turned on or off. Touch of Color only refers to the actual color of the bezel and the manufacturing process used to produce the bezel it self.

Question

How does pip work on the LN40B630 TV.

I want to puchase a new TV with the picture in picture feature like my old Sony. I have been looking at the LN40B630. How does the PIP work on this TV? Does it have 2 turners? Do I have to have a cable box or a second source?

The LN40B630 does actually have a 1-tuner PiP system. In order to connect it up, you will need a hard line going into the TV (cable coax) and an active secondary connection (HDMI, component, PC). To activate it up, either head into the TV's menu or click the Tools button on the remote control.

Again, you will need both a coax connection and a secondary input connection in order to properly activate and view PiP on your set. If your option is grayed out, this means that one of the required connections is not active and connected properly.

For further information on PiP, please refer to page 20 in the units user manual.

There really aren't any "recommended" settings from Samsung when it comes to what AMP setting you should be using. All I can tell you is try each setting out for your self with all the different content you will be viewing. See which settings look best to you since, basically, the settings of the AMP are purely subjective (meaning that what may look good in a high setting to one person, may not look good in the same setting to a different person).

Although this is not a question I can currently answer ( I do not have any experience with nor have I seen the issue your are reporting), I would suggest you head to your local retailer that offers these TVs and view the set for your self and see if the unit still has this issue.

Question

Is there a problem with HDMI cable connection?

I had a problem with an HDMI cable connection on a previously owned samsung model. Not sure if it as the receiver or the lcd, but there was a problem that could not be resolved. How is the PQ on B630's if using composite?

There should be no problems with the HDMI inputs on the TV. As long as you use an HDMI v1.3 cable to connect your components, you should be just fine. Of course composite will offer a good quality picture, however HDMI will still offer the best possible picture quality.

Beside the LN40B630, are there other 40" LCD TV's with a matte finish?

We have large windows next to the TV, and I've read that it is recommended to have the matte finish in that type of situation. Is there something in the specifications that would specify the type of finish?

If you are going to mount your TV on a movable shelf, I would say strapping it down to the shelf it self would be a prudent precaution. Although I cannot tell you how to secure it, there are websites online that will detail how to do so.

I'm sorry, but it does not sound like you received an official statement on the status of these models. As far as I know, there is no truth in this and I will be following up to make sure this is correct. An easy rule of thumb: if the TV in question is still showing a "Buy Now" link on its product page, then it is still in production.

If you purchase the unit within the North American Territories, it will only have support for NTSC/ATSC/QAM broadcasting systems and only 100v-127v 60Hz power. Outside of the NA territories you will not only need a converter for the broadcast, but also for the power.
