I believe that all the speakers on the 46" models are down-firing. This is done in order to keep the actual size of the TV down while preserving the size of the screen. Many customers have restrictive placement when it comes to displaying their new TV. So by minimizing the actual foot print, the customer will have more options as to how to display the TV.

Although a list of supported resolutions would not fit on this page, if you refer to the user's manual on page 12, there should be a list of supported resolutions there.

If you purchase the unit within the North American Territories, it will only have support for NTSC/ATSC/QAM broadcasting systems and only 100v-127v 60Hz power. Outside of the NA territories you will not only need a converter for the broadcast, but also for the power.

Question

How do I turn off nuisance info display?

Periodically when the TV is switched to display DVD, the info panel containing resolution and time data is transiently displayed in the upper left corner of the screen. I have the DVD connected to the Component 1 input. This is a particular nuisance when I have used the Move option in Zoom1 mode because the info display undoes any screen move I may have implemented and I have to reapply it to see captions. This can happen quite frequently while watching a movie.. How do I prevent the unwanted display from occurring? I have the LN40B550 LCD TV.

I'm sorry you are having an issue with this feature. Unfortunately, there is no option in the TV's menu that will allow you to turn off the info box or allow you to move it around the screen.

Thanks for the question! On the model number, the last few characters are only used for Samsung tracking purposes (basically, what stores get what stock). The last few characters does not signify model year or feature sets.

Unfortunately there is not a headphone jack; however you can still connect a headphone set to this unit. Using a RCA to 3.5mm female connector, you can connect the headphones to the audio out (red, white) on the back of the TV.

Question

DVI PC vs HDMI Source Name: which better

The instruction manual says "When a [1080p 60hz pc] is connected to the HDMI IN 1 port, you should set the HDMI1/DVI mode to DVI PC in the Edit Name of the Input Mode." I'm running my tv off a new mac mini with 1080p output. When I change the setting from HDMI1 to DVI PC, the colors get a bit more washed out although text is a bit easier to read. What is the advantage of setting it to DVI PC? Is the change in appearance just different preset picture options (contrast, brightness, etc), or is the TV actually doing something different with the signal?

Basically, why should I set it to DVI PC? What is the advantage?

There really is no actual advantage to either one. I would say stick with what ever setting you feel looks better for the processes you are performing on the TV. If the strict HDMI in looks better to you, then use that setting, if the DVI setting looks better, then stick with that. It really just boils down to personal preference.

By pressing the Info button on the remote control while on the digital channel, you should see the info box pop up. the info box should display the channel number, channel info, time and other info regarding that channel. All the info, besides the channel number, is provided by your cable provider, and if it will not display, your cable provider is not providing this info to you, and can not be displayed on the unit.
