Have you considered a properly grounded/surge-protected extention cord? If so, being you, I would run your question by "Mr Samsung" forum and/or TV Live Chat support to look into any safety issues in using an extention cord of any kind. Unless you're an electronically and mechanically gifted individual; it's not a good idea to go into the set to where the power cord originates! Doing so may void your warranty. I would opt out for a proper extension cord, with Samsung's "blessings", if one is available. Best regards.

In order to access Captioning, you will want to head into the TV's menu, then into the setup or system sub-menu to access the CC options or to just activate it, press the CC button on the remote control. However, CC is only available via the coax cable since the CC signal has to be sent by your service provider. The CC information cannot be sent via HDMI or other secondary connections from 3rd party devices. That said, most service provider set top boxes and DVD/BD players will handle CC on board, which will then be displayed on the TV as part of the video signal. Captions are subject to your service provider’s availability.

Due to some manufacturers using different codes for their IR remotes, Samsung does not offer universal codes or support for these remotes. In order to find out your remote’s code for our Samsung TVs, it is best that you contact your remotes manufacturer for further details.

I'm no "techie", but I suugest, if you haven't already, "open" the E-Manual. Page 86 starts the guidelines on Blocking Programs. The are several subsequent pages on the topic. The E-Manual is in PDF format. I haven't found a way to store it anywhere in my PC system. To refer to it I visit the page covering this model: LN32D450G1DXZA, and clicking on "Manuals", left-hand side of page. Then click on User Manual(ver 1.0) dated March 22, 2011. Best regards.

Although this model does not have direct access to Samsung Apps (like Netflix, Pandora or YouTube), it can access App content through a 2010-11 Samsung BD player (the blu-ray player will handle the Internet content processing). Additionally, the Linkstick will not be compatible with this model since it can only facilitate a network connection to Samsung Devices that already offer either network connectivity or Internet@TV and Samsung Apps.

Thank you for the opportunity to assist you,

Looked for an answer in both the e-Manual and the printed manual packed with the set. Didn't find anything close to "faded/washed out color". Could be I missed it.
But if I can offer some personal experience maybe it will help you. Our room is 25 ft longX10 ft wide.
Our unit is located along the wide side. We sit about 7 ft from the screen - just about perfect for a 32 inch screen. Anyone viewing from more than 90 deg from center will see a faded/washed out picture. If I'm not mistaken Samsung states 176 degrees in specs for this unit. That's a bit too "generous" in real life. That's at home. In the store, the picture was super; up to very close to 176 degrees - all numbers are estimated.
We find(like many others) the very best viewing is from dead-center of the screen. You may have as well.

Question

Calibrating

Have read elsewhere that calibration is necessary for optimum enjoyment. First, is this true? Second, if so, how is it accomplished? Third, are the sets not calibrated during a final manufacturing stage? Currently we do not have a signal source, i.e., cable, satellite, or antenna. A temporary issue. We watch DVDs of various ages - mostly 5 to 10 years old; a few older. They appear just fine and very satisafactory on the "4-450" screen. Please explain.

Samsung HDTVs are carefully calibrated and configured at the factory with several picture settings for your convenience.
Most Samsung HDTV owners will be extremely happy with these factory settings and will have no
need for additional calibration. Picture settings provide you with one-touch selection of brightness, contrast, and color temperature levels suited to different viewing conditions, such as Movie mode for nighttime viewing when room lighting levels are low, and Standard, and Dynamic for daytime viewing when the room is filled with a mix of artificial and natural lighting.

Purchasers may elect to have their Samsung HDTV undergo additional calibration which can optimize picture performance for their unique viewing conditions. Trained calibrators, such as those certified by THX Ltd or the Imaging Science Foundation (ISF), can compensate for differences in video signals coming from cable or satellite set-top boxes or DVD players. These calibrators will also take into account the HDTV’s screen size, viewing distance, and ambient lighting levels while making their adjustments.

Although the color of the AV IN [Y/VIDEO] jack (Green) will not match the color of the video cable (Yellow); the unit actually does accept a composite connection. To connect it properly, just connect the video (Yellow) cable to the green COMPONENT IN [Y/VIDEO] jack and the audio cables(Red/White) to the COMPONENT IN [R-AUDIO-L] jacks. For additional information, please refer to the device’s manual.

Question

Adjusting the sleep timer to 10 or 15 minute increments???

I just upgraded my Samsung 450 Series LCD TV LN32D450G1DXZA in the hopes that I could change my sleep timer settings to 10-15 minute increments instead of 30 minutes... With the advent of Netflix and other streaming videos that don't last 30 minutes, I assumed the would adjust that...

Is there any way I can manually adjust that in one of the menus myself??
