You have several bad capacitors on the power supply board. Eventually they will fail completely and the power supply board will have to be replaced. Get this fixed quickly. They will be deformed on the top of each can.
Cost of the parts; about $10.00. Labor; find a friend as the shop rate will be more than the cost of a new tv.

Question

Will a 3D Bluray play on this TV?

I have a PS3, and have updated it to be a 3D Bluray Player. What will happen if I do try to play a 3D Bluray? Is it just worse quality and will still play, or will it just not play at all?

It may play. However, the television has no transmitter for the 3D glasses. If you wear 3D glasses, there won't be an active shutter signal going to them. As a result, you'll see a blurry picture where points of 3D depth should be.

The United States uses the NTSC standard, and France uses the SECAM or SECAM-L standard. It may or may not work, and I'm unable to confirm either way.

Since SECAM is typically 50Hz and NTSC is 60Hz, that means devices purchased in that region may be designed for use on SECAM televisions and may not be compatible.

I'd recommend purchasing a television in the region you'll be using it in.

Do you know your model number? Not all Samsungs have the same backpanel hookups. Do you have the manual? If not, you can look up the manual on Samsung's website if you have the model number. The manual offers diagrams and explanations of how to hook a computer to your set.

In the meantime, examine the back hookup panel yourself. Every plug-in is labeled. Look for plug-ins labeled "VGA", "DVI", "HDMI". Many computers have a VGA, DVI or HDMI video output.Check your computer's back panel; does your computer have video connectors resembling those on your TV? Often the cable from your computer's monitor is all you need to hook up to your TV.

If you use VGA or DVI to connect your TV and computer you will also need a sound cable. You can use red and white analog stereo cables, or a digital TOSLINK S/PDIF optical cable, or a digital copper S/PDIF cable. Check your computer and TV manuals! Often only the analog cables will work when feeding VGA video.

HDMI and Displayport include their own digital sound. Displayport is still more common on computers than TVs but if your computer has Displayport and your TV has HDMI they can be adapted to each other with a special cable.

There are also special miniature versions of HDMI and Displayport connectors used on laptop computers, camcorders and some phones. These also will adapt to TVs.

This is a power-supply issue. The power supply for your screen's left backlight is failing and will eventually never turn on. You need a new power supply board. You'll need to know the model number of your set to go any further though.

Although this model does not have direct access to Samsung Apps (like Netflix, Pandora or YouTube), it can access App content through a 2010 Samsung BD player (the blu-ray player will handle the Internet content processing. Hulu+ is only available on the 2010 3D Blu-Ray Players at this time). Unfortunately, there is currently no information on upgrades to Samsung Apps for the 2009 and earlier TVs.

The lightbulbs in an LCD TV are tricky to change out.

For one thing they aren't socketed like regular lightbulbs. Wires run straight out of them to circuitboards where they are often soldered into place rather than using a snap-out connection

Getting at the lightbulbs is tricky; they are surrounded by a complicated set of mirrors and baffles. Many of these mirrors are razor-edged metal and if you get blood on them you'll always have a dark spot on your screen. Gobs of white goop turn up everywhere; you'll not only need to scrape them out but replace them when you're done.

Just handling them is tricky; they are often glass tubes 20 or more inches long but less than a quarter-inch in diameter, with paperthin walls and a maniacal deathwish.

So if that hasn't scared you off, look for 'CCFL TUBE' on Bing and Google; you'll find replacement bulbs listed.

Question

What does the below error mean?

I have an LN-T4661F (I think) and am getting this error all of a sudden. It has a red triangle with an exclamation point & 'attention', with 'Your TV does not allow display of this program through the DVI inpt source. Please choose another TV input source' with a yellow triangle with the letter 'A' to click ok. We have to select the cable button & click the yellow A to get it to go away. It's just started doing this & we don't know why. Do you know? We have Timewarner Cable if that matters. Thanks!

It means your cable box is refusing to send its signal over an unencrypted channel. DVI is unencrypted and could in theory, with some effort, be tapped and recorded by nefarious video pirates bent on world destruction. To prevent this more recent connections like HDMI and Displayport can be encypted; and copyright-sensitive devices such as BluRay players (and your cable box apparently) often insist on an HDMI or DisplayPort hookup before they'll make nice with the eyecandy.

Your LN-T4661F has three HDMI ports and you'll probably find one on your cable box too; now you just need an HDMI cable and your stop-this-or-the-world-will-end message ought to go away. Isn't world peace nice? :-)

I've done this myself.

There are five screws holding the LN-T4661F's stand in place. Four are located in deep holes in the lower rear case -- two to each side, immediately above the swivel base. The fifth is in the upper left corner of the back hookup panel, with a little arrow pointing to it.

It would be wise for two people to work together to perch the set facedown on a mattress with its base hanging over the edge before attempting to unscrew the base; this set weighs over seventy pounds and is an armful!
