Mine had a clear plastic teardrop over both ends of the optic cable. Pull those off and it will snap in without a problem. I had the same concern until I pulled them and now it works perfectly.

Thank you for contacting Samsung.

The optical cable should snap in (you'll hear a slight click) when inserted properly. If the cable is not snapping in, please email qasupport@sea.samsung.com. Please provide a more in-depth description of your product issue, as well as the full product model code, serial number and your contact info. Please also attach some photos of the cable end and the port on the device in question.

Thank you for being a Samsung customer!

Question

How do you hook up an ipod?

I plugged in my ipod to the usb port but nothing happened. Also, I hooked up the sound bar to the tv via HDMI. I also used the optical cord to hook up the sound bar to my uverse box. Is that necessary or a wasted step? My uverse box and dvd player only have 1 HDMI outlet each and they are being used. Thanks.

Question

Anynet functions not compatible with Samsung LCD TV

Hello.
I have a LN46B630N1FUZA Samsung TV and some of the Anynet functions don't seem to be working, (auto power off / on, Anynet menu, etc#.

The sound bar manual says to turn on the SAT function on the TV yet the TV doesn't seem to have a SAT function.

I purchased this sound bar thinking it would be compatible with my TV. Was I wrong? I have a HDMI & Digital Audio, #fiber optic) cable hooked up.

Thanks,
Kelvin

Thank you for contacting Samsung. We're sorry for the problems you've been having. This model TV isn't compatible with audio return channel (ARC). Therefore, an optical connection will be your only connection option. Here's an article that explains how to set it up: http://support-us.samsung.com/cyber/popup/iframe/pop_troubleshooting_fr.jsp?idx=167861&modelname=LN46B630N1F

If you have any further questions, please contact us at qasupport@sea.samsung.com and let us know how we can assist you further. Thank you for being a Samsung customer!

Question

Soundbar does not turn off when TV is turned off

I have a Samsung TV (UN55EH6050FXZA) connected to the HW-FM45C soundbar. I have an optical connection and have the auto power set on. However, when i turn off the TV the soundbar does not power down. I have checked that the Anynet+ is turned off as instructed in the manual. Am i missing something?

Thank you for contacting Samsung! The behavior you described is normal. With Auto-Power set, the sound bar looks for an incoming signal from the TV; when it sees that signal, it powers on. However, when the sound doesn't see that signal, it remains on for a period of time until turning off because it isn't getting any input. it does not, however, turn off automatically.

Question

Why isn't my TV turning ON my Soundbar??

I had a Vizio TV prior and it BOTH turned my soundbar ON and OFF automatically with the TV power, allowing me to use ONE REMOTE. This is utilizing the HDMI-ARC functionality. Now, I "upgraded" to a brand new Samsung UN40EH5300FXZA Smart TV (WITH ANYNET) and everything functions with my HW-FM45C Soundbar EXCEPT POWER ON. The Anynet section of configuration on the TV has an Auto Power OFF feature (which works) but it does NOT turn the Soundbar ON. As explained in THIS SAMSUNG ARTICLE: http://www.samsung.com/us/support/faq/FAQ00044515/74613/HW-E550/ZA . Anynet should both TURN ON and TURN OFF the Soundbar automatically. This feature is designed for ONE REMOTE USAGE, manually turning on the Soundbar separately makes NO SENSE!

Please investigate ASAP!

I also have noted this same issue... AnyNET+(ARC) controls and powers the soundbar off, but will not power the soundbar on.

I also must have the optical cable connected between soundbar and TV (for sound). From page 3 of the manual:

"When the main unit is connected to a TV with optical cable (Digital input), it is automatically turned on when you turn on the power of your TV."

So the auto power on issue is not limited to HDMI ARC/AnyNET+ setup.

I just received this soundbar and am considering returning unless Samsung has a fix on the horizon...

Question

Using 5.1 optical input vs AUX

Is there any advantage to using 5.1 input via optical versus 2 channel input via AUX?

Can the soundbar process the 5.1 input and output it as a better simulated surround sound experience, or would it be bottlenecked and just processed as 2 channel sound anyways?

If there is a difference, is it significant?

Thanks in advance for any insight.

Question

The remote does not change volume +/-.

The sound bar sees the remote as it does power on/off and other functions. But the remote volume buttons +/- get no response. I can control volume by using the buttons on the back of the bar.

Question

No Sound if Direct TV is turned on first

I just switched from Time Warner digital cable to Direct TV.

My system is set up to send the video and audio via HDMI to the Soundbar and the TV is connected to the Soundbar via HDMI Out. I control the system with a Logitech universal remote that is set to turn on the Soundbar, then the TV, then DirectTV. It was working fine with the TW box.

Now, when I turn on the system, the video appears but no audio comes from the Soundbar unless I turn the DirectTV box off and on OR the soundbar is left on all of the time.

Any suggestions for fixing this?

Question

Volume Control

Our HW-FM45C Soundbar is connected via Optical Cable. The Soundbar remote works fine but this has disconnected the Samsung TV and Uverse remotes from volume/mute control.
Is there a way to shift back to the TV/Uverse remotes for volume control?
