Customer questions and answers for samsung HW-E550
Question
Changes from HDMI-1 to D-IN
When I have HDMI-1 (or HDMI-2) selected and everything is working fine, the sound bar will sometimes suddenly change to D-IN for no reason. Is there a way to stop this from happening?
Note that I have triple-checked that all HDMI cables are working and that all connections are secure. I have a Samsung blu ray player hooked up to HDMI-1 and a Roku hooked up to HDMI-2. There is an HDMI cable then running from the HDMI out to my Samsung tv.
I'm very sorry for the inconvenience this may have caused you. Try deactivating Anynet+. I have attached an image of where you can find the button on your remote control to do that.
If the problem still persists, please contact us at 1-800-SAMSUNG, or if you want to come through a social media channel, we have a couple options for you:
If you have a Twitter account, go here or to this URL: http://twitter.com/#!/samsungsupport Having a transaction number or model number and serial number handy ahead of time will be helpful.
If you have Facebook, go here to this URL: http://www.facebook.com/SamsungSupport Click on the "Support Form" button.
I've had this for about a week now and LOVE it. The only thing that is bugging me is when I turn the unit off settings such as dimmer go back to factory settings. I like keeping the dimmer on auto but seems I have to change that back every time I turn it on. Any way to keep it on auto?

Thank you for contacting Samsung. Unfortunately, we don’t have enough details here to answer your question. Please contact us at qasupport@sea.samsung.com and let us know what you're referring to as the 'dimmer' that is working improperly. Thank you for being a Samsung customer!
Has a fix been found for this issue? Why hasn't Samsung addressed this? It's the one bad thing about the system.

I have contacted Samsung about this problem. They have replied that this is the NORMAL functioning of the unit - the dimmer function reverts to ON (from what you set to Auto) each time the unit powers off. I agree with other users in that I hope that they change this with the next firmware update so that when I choose AUTO for the dimmer function, that the unit keeps the dimmer on AUTO each time you power on and off, so you don't keep having to change this setting each time you use it!

Question
No sound when connect to Samsung TV
My soundbar HW-E550 connected to Samsung ES8000 TV via HDMI ARC connection (HDMI OUT -> TV HDMI ARC IN). There is no sound coming from the speakers for TV. When I connect my IPod via BT, speakers are working fine. When I click 'Source' buton on the soundbar remote, there is no option 'TV ARC', but only D-IN. I think soundbar is confused on what kind of connection I'm using. It is used to work for a few days, and now stopped.

If you are using HDMI cables, then the correct input is HDMI 1 or HDMI 2 not D-In, which is digital optical cable in.

If you are connecting to the HDMI slots, then you are using the incorrect input.... It should be either HDMI 1 or HDMI 2 not D-IN. D-IN is for digital audio (optical cable).

First, you have to verify your HDMI cables are connected properly. There only has to be one HDMI cable going from your subwoofer to your TV (the HDMI cable should go out of the output of your subwoofer labeled “HDMI out”).
The other inputs of your subwoofer (HDMI 1 & HDMI 2) should be connected to your desire equipment (Blu-ray, DVD player, gaming system, etc.)

Question
HW-E550 with Anynet+ connection to Samsung TV: Can TV turn Soundbar ON?
I have an HW-E550 connectived via Anynet+ to my Samsung TV. The Volume adjustment of the Soundbar by the TV is working fine The Soundbar will turn OFF whenI turn OFF the TV, so that is fine
My problem is that when I turn my TV ON, it will not turn ON the Soundbar (which means I get no video signal or sound until I turn the Soundbar ON)
How can I get the TV to turn the soundbar ON when the TV is turned ON?

I have a brand new Samsung ES8000 and as the above person stated, the only way to turn on the soundbar and the TV is to turn on soundbar, then turn on TV. I turn the Sat Source on the soundbar remote to HDMI 1 because it defaults to ARC every time. After a few seconds, the TV turns on then a few seconds later the soundbar turns off. The TV says No Signal Found. So I then turn on TV by its remote and turn on the soundbar again. I find this very tiresome, and I've only had these two pieces for 3 days. I have a verizon fios set top box connected to HDMI 2 on the S/W. That connection seems to function perfectly once I get the soundbar to stay on. Just to check things out, I went through the ID Set procedure twice and it did not do anything differently because the connection between the soundbar and sub woofer are operating correctly.

Thank you for contacting Samsung.
As strange as this may sound, in order to power on the TV and sound bar together, you need to power on the sound bar first. It will then power on the TV. You can continue to power off the TV first since it will power off the sound bar.
Audio does not work on Samsung SMART TV Apps and Programs
When I try to use the SMART TV Apps and Programs on my Samsung TV, no sound comes out of the sound bar. I have experienced this problem with Hulu, Netflix, Pandora, and Amazon Instant Video. How do I get the sound bar to recognize these Apps/Programs?

Thank you for contacting Samsung. We'll be happy to assist you with your problem, but we'll need more information to answer your question. Please contact us at qasupport@sea.samsung.com and provide us with the complete model code for your TV along with its firmware version. Thank you for being a Samsung customer!
By using the optical cable for the sound bar system, seems to eliminate this problem, I used HDMI and it was ok, switched to the optical and so far all is good, what ever the tv hears the sound bar hears. Hope this helped.
Is there anyway to turn OFF the information, HDMI, on the speakers. It is very annoying when watch TV at night.

use the "dimmer" button on the remote. It cycles between "dimmer on" <> "dimmer auto" <> "dimmer off". Set it to dimmer auto and the message will go out in a couple seconds.
What I can't find is a way to make the setting permanent. It seems to always go back to "dimmer off" each time it gets power cycled
Soundbar remote turns on my samsung TV, and controls volume on the TV. It also turns on my cable box. It will not change the channel on the TV

if your samsung tv is not in the tv mode, the soundbar remote will not change the channel, so if your hooked into HDMI-1 or 2, the sound bar remote cannot access it, it will if the source for your tv is tv, not HDMI.Hope this was helpful

Thank you for contacting Samsung.
If your service provider for the remote you wish to use does not offer a remote code for your Samsung device, that would indicate one is not yet available. We do not provide remote codes for third-party remotes.
My setup 55inch Samsung TV ES6100 with Samsung E550 sound bar. Setup between the two is through HDMI ARC on TV to HDMI out on subwoofer.
My problem is that whenever I am watching a movie or TV the sound randomly cut off for 1 to 2 seconds. No problems if I am watching without the soundbar turned on. Extremely annoying when I am trying to enjoy a movie.
Please help in fixing this.

We recommend you check the connections. We also recommend you check to make sure your TV has the latest firmware.
When we tried to turn on our soundbar this weekend, it would not power on. The sub woofer was powered on and was flashing a blue light. The remote is working, we put in new batteries. We suspect that the power supply is bad. My husband tested it and it appeared that no power was coming from the supply. Where can we get a new power supply? Is that something we can get from you?
Thanks, Shannon

Thank you for contacting Samsung.
HDMI supports audio and video, so you have the option of connecting the sound bar via this connection type or optical (which only supports audio). We recommend you review the following support articles for a more thorough explanation.
Is the red power light supposed to blink when the power is off? I would think the light would remain off when the power is shut off but my light blinks slowly. Subwoofer is off and speaker is turned off but light remains blinking at power off. Subwoofer is connected to a blu-ray player only via optical cable. Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you for contacting Samsung. Yes, this is normal. When the sound bar is powered off, the red light will blink to indicate it is receiving power from its power cord. Thank you for being a Samsung customer!
Thank you for contacting Samsung. I'm very sorry for any inconvenience this may have given you. It seems that your device may need servicing. Please complete a service request here: http://www.samsung.com/us/support/service/request
We cannot speculate on whether our sound bars are compatible with third-party remotes. If you have a universal remote, we recommend you check the documentation that came with the remote or consult the manufacturer's website for more info on what products are supported and the respective remote codes for said devices.
