Thank you for contacting Samsung.

You would need to refer to the user manual that came with your Dish Network receiver or contact Dish Network technical support to find out if the Samsung soundbar is a supported device.

Thank you for being a Samsung customer!

Question

How can I make the soundbar TURN ON automatically when the TV's on?

Ok, so there's an option to have the soundbar turn off automatically when the TV turns off. But how do I make it TURN ON automatically?? It's so annoying having to either 1) Leave it on all the time, or 2) Go to the Anynet+ menu and manually set the Receiver ON.

You can't. Amazingly, even though most of the useful TV remote features work when using Anynet+ with the ARC HDMI connection (including turning the HW-D550 off), Samsung inexplicably left turning the sound bar on out of the feature set. This has to be one of the dumbest oversights I've ever seen with a product like this. You can use the TV remote to turn on the D550 by going through a ridiculous amount of steps to toggle on and off the "receiver", but it's not feasible to expect "lay" users to do this. HOPEFULLY, SAMSUNG IS LISTENING AND WILL CREATE A FIRMWARE UPDATE TO FIX THIS! A return is in my near future if they don't.

If you use an optical audio cable to connect the soundbar to the TV, and activate the "Auto On" feature on the soundbar remote, the soundbar will turn on when the TV is on. However, the only control you will have over the soundbar volume is through the soundbar remote, not the TV. You will also have to set the TV volume to 0, otherwise you will have sound coming from the TV speakers in addition to the soundbar speakers. The soundbar will not turn off when the TV is turned off, but it will shut off after 20 minutes if there is no activity. Considering the first answer to this question, and what I have stated, this is some great system.

Seriously, this is a big problem because the only solution is to use the included remote which is silly because who wants another remote that only is needed for power and volume. One way to help fix this would be if the code were released to program other remotes...

As Mjmbond said, there doesn't seem to be a good solution for this. And quite frankly, I would expect more from Samsung. The company is normally thoughtful and develops excellent products, so my hope is that this is just an oversight and that they are working on solving this ASAP. The use of two remotes is absolutely confusing to my in-laws, both 70+. If this cannot be solved with a firmware update, I hope they consider providing an upgrade for those of who us who are experiencing this problem.

There is no code available. You could try your remote's method of programming without having a specific code number, if so equipped. I tried that on my FIOS remote without success. If your Samsung TV has Allshare and you connect the soundbar to the TV with the supplied HDMI cable using the HDMI ARC ports, and activate Allshare on both, you will be able to control the soundbar volume and "off" function via the TV. But you will not be able to control the "on" function. For that you will still need to use the soundbar remote. This is a very unsatisfactory situation; but, if enough people contact Samsung to voice their displeasure, perhaps they will develop a workaround like a code provision or firmware update.

You could also connect the TV and soundbar with an optical audio cable. That will turn on the soundbar with the TV but the volume would have to be controlled with the soundbar remote. Again, unsatisfactory. The soundbar will shut off after 20 minutes of inactivity.

There is a set of brackets that can be purchased which will allow your soundbar to be mounted to the TV. Since I can't post a link or the name of the company, you will need to do an internet search for soundbar brackets. I have used them.

Do you have it plugged in through HDMI, Optical or Analog? And on your wireless subwoofer, it should be blue when it's on and red when it's off. What do you see when it's on?

You could try resyncing your woofer, by looking at the side of it where the connections are. There's a small hole button called "ID SET" that you can press with a small sharp object (a paper clip will do) and then hold the "mute" button down for five seconds on your remote - and it should resync.

Hope this helps. Take care and God Bless. :)

I had a similar problem. I connected the HW-D550 speaker to my Samsung 6420 via the ARC HDMI out port on the speaker to the HDMI ARC in port on the TV. I just figured out that for that to work you have to turn the AnyNet+ button on the speaker remote. When I pressed that button, I magically now have surround sound and lots of base. Before there was no sound or vibration coming from the subwoofer. That all changed when I turned on the AnyNet+ button. The need to select that button is not mentioned in the set up guide but is indicated on page 15 of the speaker manual under the HDMI Out (ARC) connection method. You can now control the speaker and the various sound modes. However, the sound options on the TV cannot be used since the speaker settings are now controlling the sound. The speaker turns off with the TV but I have to manually turn the speaker on with the speaker remote. I just looked at the TV manual, and it appears that to automatically turn on the speaker, which is consider a Home Theater, you have to also have a optical digital cable attached. So, I will try that and provide an update. Hope this helps.

For some reason, the web has an update several days (weeks?) before the BD player picks up the update wirelessly (or wired, if you have that option). So I just put the firmware unzipped onto a USB drive, connect it to the BD player, and install that way.

Thank you for contacting Samsung.

We have conferred with our resident home theater specialist and she indicates that ARC is activated in Digi 1, which is normal. She says you can disable ARC, but if you did so, you would need an additional HDMI cable.

Question

Many of these questions I have too.

People are asking the same Q's here that I have. I find this DW-550 Samsung sound bar to be frustrating, especially since in use with a new Samsung TV.

The problems with having to use a 2nd (and not powerful - even with new batteries) remote for the sound bar is a hassle. We have both a Samsung TV and a Samsung Sound Bar, but I can't control both with a single remote. I have to use 2 remotes. I could see this problem if using 2 different brands, but not when both items are made by the same company.

I've used both ARC (hdmi) and Optical Digital. I bought Opt.Dig cable cuz it said I could power on sound bar when TV comes on. BUT, then you have to use the sound bar remote for everything. It's a hassle to always have to use a 2nd remote. I've gone back to ARC setup for now. I'd like to know how to get the bar on without having to either go up to the bar and manually turn it on, and without having to turn it on by a 2nd remote - without using Optical Digital cable (cuz then you have to use 2 remotes).

I too can hardly hear anything when I put my ear up to the subwoofer (despite +06 - tho that does seem to increase the bassness of the bar), but I'm not an audiophile to know how loud a sub should be.

So if anyone has answers to many of the questions posted here, I'm more than happy to hear them.

HDMI is the best connection. If the HDMI is not working, check to see if you have it hooked up right and using the correct source/input. It is possible that something is wrong with the HDMI cable but most likely it is the way you have it connected.

I had the same problem and was hooked up via ARC HDMI too. I have a UN46D6420 TV and a HW-550 soundbar that would turn off with the remote, but would not turn on. I have not worked at getting my Samsung TV remote to work, but did have success with both my DirectTV and Logitech Harmony remotes.

For the Direct TV remote, I had to program an auxiliary (av1) button to turn on my HW-D550 soundbar. This means an extra step to power up as you have to slide the control switch from DTV to av1 and press the power button to turn on the soundbar, but at least its on a single remote. It powers off along with the TV and Direct TV box when I press "off". I programmed the the av1 button using the Direct TV Remote menu, by selecting av1, then amplifiers, then Samsung. The power bar model is not listed, so select "no model displayed" and it leads you through a series of trials for different codes to make the sound bar work. About the forth or fifth try resulted in the av1 switch being able to control the sound bar power by pressing the Power button beneath it (note: not the on/off buttons).

The Logitech setup was much easier and works much better. I was able to go on their site, select the hardware and how it was operated and it programed my Harmony remote through the USB hookup. If you press "watch tv", everything (Direct TV, Samsung TV and the soundbar) power up and when you press off, they all power down. All of the functions on my both Samsung remotes and Direct TV remote are on the Logitech. Even my wife likes it!

Question

Is my TV compatible with the HW-D550 sound bar?

I have a Samsung LED 6050 TV (UN46D6050TFXZA). Is my TV compatible with the HW-D550 sound bar? Will my TV remote control the sound bar (on/off, volume). Which blue-ray players do you recommend that can also be controlled by my TV remote.

Thanks,

Dave

If your Samsung TV has Allshare and an HDMI ARC port, and you connect the soundbar to the TV with the supplied HDMI cable using the HDMI ARC ports, and activate Allshare on both, you will be able to control the soundbar volume and "off" function via the TV, with your TV remote.

I’m sorry to hear that you're having this problem with your Blu-ray player.

With the limited information that has been provided, I'm unable to assist with troubleshooting. I would recommend contacting the Samsung customer service center, and speaking to one of our chat agents at the following link:

http://www.samsung.com/us/support/

Or you can also call them directly at 1-800-SAMSUNG.

We appreciate your support of Samsung products, and we look forward to assisting you.

As it is a wireless device, interference can possibly cause this. If possible, try decreasing the distance between the main sound bar unit and it. Also, if you have a device that operates either on the 5.2 GHz or 5.8 GHz bands, then it could also experience some interference. Examples of devices on those bands include wireless handsets for land line phones and some Wi-Fi networks.
