I just got off the phone with support, and was told that the HW-D450 has a special infrared code that can't be reproduced by universal remotes. The only two ways to control the volume remotely is to use the remote that came with it, or control through an Anynet+ connection with a Samsung TV. In other words, no other remote control (even universal) can control the sound on the soundbar.

Is it possible to control the volume of the unit with my Samsung TV remote or cable box remote?

The Anynet feature does not work with this unit according to the product manual, even though there is a button on the remote for it. The reviews I have found online have pointed out that it is not possible to control the volume of this soundbar with the Samsung TV's remote, but some have had success using a Harmony universal remote.

You may be able to control the volume using the Anynet+ feature. Typically, most of the functionality should be available for both Samsung remote controls for controlling either Samsung device. In this case, the volume codes for the television and the television remote may be different than the volume codes for the home theater system and the home theater system's remote control.

I'm unable to verify which products are supported by the Scientific Atlanta Time Warner cable boxes. They would be able to assist in providing codes if those are available for either the Samsung television or the Samsung home theater system. In some cases, the may even be able to assist you over the phone with setting up the devices for the remote control.

There are two types of soundbars, unfortunately the Hw-D450 does not have the capability of playing the ipod, you have to buy a seperate ipod dock and go from there, then it will work.

Dont know if you are still looking but I got it to work. You need to use the training function on the Dish Network remote (read the Dish Network programming manual). You can program the aux button as a receiver and program using the sound bar remote. I have been able to program the sound bar power button and sound bar input button on the Dish Network Remote using this. Setting a code number on the remote DOES NOT work.

If you hook it up via HDMI, us the "ARC" ports (probably HDMI 2) and the TV will automatically do it for you. Once you turn on the TV and the soundbar the soundbar will say TV SAT. Look at the manual for Anynet+, you may have to turn it ON on the TV. You will be even be able to turn the soundbar on with the TV remote.

This is a bit tricky but can be made to work and requires the following three steps.

The procedure below worked for me on a Samsung 46D6400 LED TV with Direct TV HD DVR. Your should be able to make your TV and soundbar work similarly even though the menu items may be slightly different.

1) Program the soundbar as AV2 under "settings" and "remote control"
- then press "program remote", "change AV2", "audio equipment", select samsung as brand and I used the "HTWS1" for the model.

2) Now link the new AV2 setting to remote controls volume key by "settings", "remote control", "program remote", "advanced", "volume lock", select "AV2" for the lock.

3) Now you have to turn off the internal speakers (unless you like an echo effect) by going into the samsung TV menu (not the direct TV menu system) then select "sound", "speaker settings", "speaker select", then select "external speakers".

Sounds like you may have turned on the soundbar first then plugged in the subwoofer....if this is the case leave the subwoofer plugged in while it's still blinking power off your soundbar, then turn it back on it should then try to reconnect with the sub, you would then see the blue light go from blinking to solid..... Hope that helps

Question

Why won't the 7000 series 60" TV volume adjustments control the Audio Bar volume?

It seems that after telling the TV to use the audio bar for its speakers the TV remote would control the volume of the bar. Am I missing something? It seems silly to have to use a separate control to simply adjust the output volume of the bar.

Question

Compatibility with Dolby Digital Plus

While the manual clearly states that Dolby Digital and DTS audio formats are supported, does the HW-D450 also accept a Dolby Digital Plus source which sends a Dolby Digital Compatible Output signal (core audio carrying with 1 to 5.1 channels at 640 kps) via TosLink (S/Pdif) connected to the HW-D450 Digital Audio Input?

The optical (Toslink) digital connection has sufficient bandwidth carry either a 5.1 bitstream (or lower) or stereo PCM. A source, such as a Blu-Ray player, will normally adjust the audio content to match the available link bandwidth. For Dolby Digital Plus encoded Blu-Ray disks, Dolby Digital core audio is transmitted at 640 kbps (the "extension" is dropped). Similarly for DTS-HD High Resolution, only the DTS Digital Surround core is transmitted at 1.5 Mbps.

Terill,

You'll need an optical Toslink cable of adequate length (use less than a 10 ft cable for best results). First, remove the small plastic caps from each end then connect one end to the TV digital optical output and the other to one of the sound bar's optical input.

Note that you may want to turn off your TV internal speakers (if any) to avoid echo. Alternatively, you can use the A/V Sync on the sound bar to delay the audio signal relative the video signal (try 50 milliseconds as a starting point and then adjust to minimize any echo / reverberation).

Hope this helps.

The best for sound would be to connect directly to the soundbar, but going optical out from the Samsung plasma to the soundbar works just fine (it's how I have mine setup, except blu-ray goes straight to sound bar). If you use a cable that ARC compatable (most 1.4 w/ethernet are), it should automatically switch to soundbar when powered on and automatically turn of tv speakers, then when the soundbar is powered down, it'll automatically switch back to tv speakers.
