The volume and on/off functions can be controlled by your Direct TV remote ony if Direct TV includes codes for Samsung Blu-ray players in its Owners Manual. Normally, only the display device (TV) is controlled by satellite and cable provider remotes.
If you connect the sound bar to a Samsung TV by digital opticle connection, the TV will then control the sound bar, then you can program the D-TV remote to control the TV and soud bar.

your TV volume is as loud as the new system, which causes this effect. Simply turn down your TV volume while keeping the new system at a higher level, thus drowning out the tv volume. Also make sure your "sound mode" button is not on "GAME" as this preset adds a reverberating tone, or, echo effect.

The TV should have a setting to turn the volume off to the TV. Go to "Menu" on the remote, then select "Sound" which will probably be written vertically on the left hand side of the screen. Arrow right on the remote then select "Speaker Select", select "External" ......Hope this helps TEX...

it automatically detects a signal and will turn on and off according. The delay to turn off is 15 to 20 minutes. Make sure you turn off the device it is receiving audio from otherwise the signal from that device is still present and the soundbar turns back on.
Lip-sync problem. There is a slight delay in the sound. Voices don't match up with people talking.
Its like I'm watching a movie dubbed in another language. The lips don't match up with the sound of their voice. Very annoying. I also have the digi1 to digi2 switching and volume to max on its own. How do I syn the voices?

Assuming your watching on a flat screen, there should be a delay setting for the audio you can adjust, at least there is on my Samsung TV.
You need to adjust the Sound Bar NOT the TV. Get out the remote for the Sound Bar and press the "+" or "-" keys above and below "AV Sync" (which stands for audio-visual sync) located at the bottom left under "SPX Control" on the remote. Increase or decrease until the voices match the sounds.

Very Simple. Just purchase an audio cable with two phono jack ends. Plug one to the Nano and plug the other end to the "Audio In" circle (next to the "optical in") and you are good to go!

Question
Auto power link dosen't work.
I have my HW-C450 2.1 channel audio bar connected to my LN46A850S1FxZA LCD TV through the Optical Digital cable. I see on one reviewer states the Auto power link does not work and in another review the Auto power link works. It does not work for me. Turning off the TV is supposed to turn off the sound bar and it does not. The sound bar goes off after 20 minutes if the TV is off. Does anyone have this problem? And maybe a solution.

Make sure your not set on Analog if you are : (From the manual)
If you select 'ANALOG' without connecting the Audio Cable, the set is turned off automatically after 20 minutes.
Also try pressing the Auto Power button on the remote between the - button and the down arrow button.

I had the same problem. I found that my sound bar can't be too close to the TV. I have my samsung TV on a platform ( not mounted) and the sound bar in front of it. In this configuration, the sound bar kept shutting off. I returned it as a faulty unit and the second one did the same thing. By chance I happened to move the sound bar off of the tv platform and the problem ceased.

Why are we unable to use the remote to increase or decrease the volume after the TV has been on for a short period of time?
When we first turn the TV and the sound bar on, the volume control on the remote and the TV remote works fine. After a short time we are unable to work both the remote and the TV control to increase or decrease the volume. We have to work the volume control on the sound bar. We are also unable to turn the sound bar off with the control.

I too have experienced a similar problem. The unit sometimes switches audio inputs (I've observed both DIGI.1 to DIGI.2 and DIGI.2 to Analog) as though the input button on the unit or remote had been pressed. Both times this has happened I've been nowhere near the unit or remote so it would seem there's a firmware issue that can cause the switch (I have "Auto Power" turned off)
Both times I've corrected the issue by touching the input "button" on the unit to (re)select the source I was listening to.
Hopefully Samsung will issue a firmware fix (the unit has a USB port for firmware updates).

Mine was doing that, too, connected with either digital or analog cables. I fiddled around with the bar location and eliminated the problem by keeping the bar away from the TV. One of the install tips is to mount the bar at least 2 inches below the tv. Mine tv is currently on a stand with the bar in front of it. When I put the bar closer to the TV than the recommended 2 inches it cycles. Moving it away and it's solid.

JCordle,
My Subwoofer is on a shelf directly under the cabinet that holds my sound bar on top. The sound bar itself is 5" below and centered on my wall mounted 55" Samsung TV. The subwoofer is also centered on the two other pieces above. The sub woofer is 3' 4" below the top of the cabinet.
My Entertainment room is 14 X 16. This is just right to make the sound appear to be surround sound.
Hope this works for you.

The HW-C450 has an analog audio input (3.5mm jack) so you could use that.
why will my HW-C450 not stay off. I push the power button and it turns off, but than it turns its self right back on.
Also when the tv is off the sound is coming through the system. Is this a product problem or have i wired it incorrectly.

If the "Auto Power" is set to On the unit will switch on if there's a signal on either optical input. Thus if the TV is still on (and outputting audio) the HW-C450 will turn back on.
The solution is to turn "Auto Power" off.
As to your 2nd question: yes you have it wired incorrectly.

I'm pretty sure you can't.
The optical audio interface is digital so the TV doesn't control the speaker volume the HW-C451 does.
If you have a universal remote, and know how to program it (as I do mine), you should be able to have the volume control buttons (+/-/Mute) control the HW-C451 rather than the TV. The method etc are a function of the specific universal remote.
