Mines did this for a few months. The display will say chkfan and then after a series of flashes the system would turn off. Well, first I unplugged the system for a few days then plugged it back up. Everything worked fine for about a week then the same thing happened. Next I uncovered the system to check the fan. The fan was not turning. So I gave it some assistance. After that the system worked perfectly.

Note: sometimes you have to wait for the "chkfan" to display then assist the fan, bcuz the fan won't work.

Check your settings and make sure it's not set to power down if just on and not in use.

Also, the unit may be overheating and is shuting down to keep it feom becomming damaged.

Make sure the air vents are not being blocked.

I just checked my unit and I tHINK the fan runs only when the unit gets hot. I don't hear a fan running on my unt.

Other then that, I would either return it for repair or replacement.

The PROTECT notification indicates that it's possible that one of two things is wrong with your unit:

1. The wires may be crossed, such as the red and black wires causing a polarity issue. Check both the wires coming out from the rear of your home theater system, as well is the wires going into the speakers.

2. If it is not an issue with wire polarity, you may need further troubleshooting with Samsung customer service center agent. To do that you can reach them at 800-SAMSUNG.

If the unit won't come on and you are sure that it is plugged in then either the internal 110v fuse is blown or the unit is bad.

If you can turn it on, while in DVD mode and the unit displaying "No Disc", press and hold the stop button on the front panel for more than 5 seconds. The message "INITIAL" will flash and all of the setups will be set to factory default and the unit will turn off.

It may be because the positive and negative wires are touching. You may want to check the back of your speaker connections, and then also the back of your home theater systems connections to make sure the speaker wires aren't crossing each other, or touching each other.

If any of the speaker wires are touching each other - either at the rear of the Blu-ray player, or the rear of the speakers - the system will go to the PROTECT mode to prevent damage.

I’m sorry to hear that you're having this problem with your Blu-ray player.

Unfortunately, this seems to be a service related issue, and surge issues may have damaged the unit.

Since it's very difficult to diagnose and troubleshoot based on the information posted, I recommend that you contact Samsung's customer service center and try speaking to one of our chat agents at the following link:

http://www.samsung.com/us/support/

Or you can also call them directly at 1-800-SAMSUNG.

We appreciate your support of Samsung products, and we look forward to assisting you.

Question

What is the "region code"?

I have tried to watch 2 DVD's recently which would not load on my Samsung HT-Z310 home theater system. Instead, I got a message saying something to the effect of "Disc will not load. Check region code." Is this something that needs to be pre-set, or even changed from disc to disc? If so, how do I do it?

The Region Code is the allowance of a disc to be purchased and played in specific regions. This limitation is placed there by the movie studios to fight piracy, and manufacturers support this.

In the United States:
For Blu-Ray, the only supported region is Region A
For DVD, the only supported region is Region 1

Any discs from other regions will not work in U.S. players.

I'm not sure what you meant by "survived the flood". If there was possible water damage to the unit, we recommend not plugging it in or using it until it's been inspected by a qualified technician.

Replacement parts and accessories can be found on the www.samsungparts.com website.

Thank you for contacting Samsung.

At this time, there is not a way to remove any registered items from your online account. Please know that Samsung is aware that customers wish to have the ability to remove any registered products they no longer own from their accounts. At this time, the only recommendation we can make would be to delete the account associated with the products you no longer own and create a new one.

Thank you for being a Samsung customer!

Question

Should I get a "red glow" from the digital input jack on the back of my home theater system?

I have no sound from my TV when hooked up to the Optical Input(Digital Input) of my home theater system. I have noticed on many devices that have an optical connection, that you will see a red glow from the connector.

Yes, the glow is normal. You may want to check to make sure you have the Samsung DVD unit set to the D IN setting. If you still don't get sound, you may have a damaged optical cable. If the cable ever got a kink or the end was bumped, it could cause it not to work. In conclusion, make sure you hear a CLICK when you plug it in. It should LOCK into the device.

Hope this helps.

The home theater system is a protection warning in two possible scenarios:

1. There is an internal problem that requires service, or

2. The positive and negative speaker wires are touching. Check both the rear the unit to make sure that the positive and negative terminals aren't touching each other. Then, you want to do the same at the rear of the speaker connections. If any of the wires are touching, that will cause the unit to go into a protection mode, which protects your equipment.

If after you have checked your speaker connections and no wires are touching , and you're still getting the PROTECT error, you may need to have your unit serviced. If you'd like further troubleshooting, please chat with one of our online technicians at the following link:
