Question

How do I listen to my TV through my sound system?

I have a new samsung HT-D5500 and a new samsung un46d6000sf tv. I have setup both devices and they are connected with an HDMI cable. I can play a dvd and the picture shows on the tv. When I play the TV I would like to hear the sound from the sound system instead of the tv speakers. The two devices seem to see each other, but no sound comes out. Please help.

Use an optical cable. Connect the optic cable wire from cable box to the samsung HT-D5500. Turn on the player and from the main screen press TV source "function" button on the remote, once. Then turn on the cable box. On the cable remote controller press the settings button and go to audio. Select the optical audio.

Ist run an optical Cable from TV to Blue Ray. On tv menu go to audio settings and scroll to speakers and select external speakers. Be sure to use the "Function/TV Source button on Blue ray remote and set to the "D-In" setting. Works for me and I have the same model TV and home theater.

Question

Connect my cable box to my home theater's BD player or my TV?

I have the HT-D5500/ZA Blu-Ray Home theater as well as the PN51E550D1FXZA Plasma Smart TV. I had connected my 3D cable box via high speed HDMI cable to my TV previously, before buying & setting up my HT-D5500/ZA Blu-Ray Home theater.
After setting up and testing my home theater setup yesterday I noticed that all 5.1 speakers sound great when playing a DVD or Blu-ray disc via the BD player, but only the right & left front speakers are active when playing Xfinity/Comcast cable content.
Is there something I need to change in order to get all 5.1 speakers to work with my cable box? I've tried changing the audio output settings on the cable box but both settings ('TV speakers' and 'stereo') failed to make any but the right/left front speakers active.
Should I be connecting my Comcast cable box's HDMI cable directly to the HT-D5500/ZA Blu-Ray component instead of the TV in order to achieve the full 5.1 speaker sound?

Thanks.

Thank you for contacting Samsung.

Depending on the cable box model, there may be a setting to set the audio to Digital, but you would need to refer to a user manual, telephone tech support or the vendor's website to see if that's offered on the model you currently use. DVDs and Blu-rays are pre-mixed in 5.1 surround sound to take full advantage of the original sound mix, but a lot of TV is still broadcast in 2.0 stereo sound. If you pay extra for HDTV programming, many of the channels that are broadcast in 720p or higher quality video typically offer a 5.1 digital audio signal. As for connecting your various devices, we recommend you connect your home theater via HDMI to your TV and Optical to your Blu-ray player. You only remaining option would be to connect your cable box via the component connection on the home theater.

For additional troubleshooting, please refer to the following support article:

One last thing. There is an audio option on your home theater that will allow you to simulate surround from a stereo (2-channel) signal. It's called Dolby ProLogic II. You can read more about it via the link below and on page 54 of your user manual.

The HT-D5500 doesn't use a tray to load the discs. You simply insert the dvd in the slot on the front panel of the device - partially insert the dvd till you feel the dvd being loaded by the motorized transport in the machine (it will then load the rest of the way on it's own). You can eject the disc using the eject-button on the front panel of the device. Your owners manual shows the location of the dvd slot and the eject button on page 15. If you don't have the owners manual or can't find it you can view and download it at this url: http://downloadcenter.samsung.com/content/UM/201103/20110307111729712/HT-D5500_XAA_0208_CMS.pdf

Does it continue, or is it just residual power? If it's just for a few more seconds, it's just in the process of powering down.

If audio continues even after you turn off the system, you'll want to reach out to the Samsung customer service center at 800-SAMSUNG for further troubleshooting.

By experience I went through that, what's happening it's that you're experincing sound delay. To fix this, move your optical cable from your hdtv optical input to your cable box input optical cable. This is assuming that you bought an Optical cable. Otherwise check your Blue ray surround sound HDMI cable is inserted all the way in at the Blue ray HDMI out to hdtv HDMI tv-in. Enjoy the magic of sound...

Theres a way to do that if Netflix don't block your IP adress. I live in Puerto Rico and once happen to me. The solution was to (as I remenber) press very fast << , << , 2, 2, 6,6, >>, >> . or backwards don't remember well. The thing is that you going to get to a menu where you have to chose a country, you select United States, and saved if nessesary. Then I think the unit restart and start to load th US apps as Netflix, Hulu Plus, Pandora, ect. That work in my case. Hope I help you.

I’m sorry to hear that you're having this problem with your Blu-ray player.

With the limited information that has been provided, I'm unable to assist with troubleshooting. I would recommend contacting the Samsung customer service center, and speaking to one of our chat agents at the following link:
