Question

No digital audio from Apple TV

HT-D5210C will not play digital audio from an Apple TV.

Digital Audio does work if connected to the cable box, but does not work connected to a brand new Apple TV.

The Apple TV digital audio does work, as I connect to my MAC and can record audio via QuickTime Pro.

I called Samsung support and was supposed to get a call back one hour later - one week later still no call back.

I've toggled all the settings across the HT-D5210C and Apple TV and nothing is allowing sound from the Apple TV to the HT-D5210C.

Thank you for contacting Samsung.

We conferred with our resident home theater expert and she suggested you press the function remote on your home theater remote until D.IN is displayed on the front right of the display on the unit. If the sound still does not work, we suggest you refer to the following support article from Apple below, as it seems that 2nd gen Apple TVs default to a specific sound setting and it's not recognized by certain receivers until a manual change is made.

http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3789

If you have any additional questions, we suggest your refer to your product manual or the product page on our website, where you'll find a comprehensive troubleshooting guide, product support videos, FAQs and How-Tos, as well as manual, firmware & software downloads.

Question

Why do my Blu-ray discs either not play or play with a tinny hollow sounding audio?

All audio is a soft tinny sound that reverbs like it's in a deep hollow barrel. This is true of DVDs and Blu-Rays.
Blu-Ray discs go straight to the featured movie intro screen, skipping all previews, but won't play. For example, Disney Blu-ray discs start immediately at the view of Cinderella's castle but don't advance beyond there. it's a still image except the water in the moat ripples.

Thank you for contacting Samsung.

A firmware update was released for this home theater on 10/15/2012. We recommend you open the link below, click on Manuals & Downloads > Firmware and download the firmware file and upgrade, which is in English, not Korean despite the label. You will need a formatted USB flash drive in order to copy the firmware files to it and apply them to the unit.

The wireless LinkStick for your model is the Samsung WIS09ABGN wireless adapter.

It's listed in the owner's manual on page 27 for your convenience as well.

It can be found at many national retailers, online stores and also at the www.Samsungparts.com website.

We appreciate your support of Samsung products.

Netflix may not support or stream surround sound for specific models. They would be able to address that at the Netflix customer service center. We don't control how they encode or stream the movies, and can't speak for that process.

If you have external speakers, the television has to be connected with either analog or an optical cable, depending on what options are available on your television.

Sound should coming out of the television speakers by default.

I’m sorry to hear that you're having this problem with your Home Theater system.

Unfortunately, this seems to be a service related issue.

Since it's very difficult to diagnose and troubleshoot based on the information posted, I recommend that you contact Samsung's customer service center and try speaking to one of our chat agents at the following link:

http://www.samsung.com/us/support/

Or you can also call them directly at 1-800-SAMSUNG.

Not all television programming is recorded or broadcast with surround sound.

When the receiver receives only two channels of audio (stereo), it only plays through the two speakers.

Question

Upgrading speakers

Hello,

I was wondering if there was anyway to order upgraded speakers without actually having to buy an entire new system. I'm quite happy with my HT-D5210C Blu Ray system but I always wonder about/want to upgrade the speakers to those of newer models or even the HT-D5500 front speakers. It really sucks that I can't find these parts besides in a new home theater set up and not on a individual upgrade package. If this is anyway possible that would make me a very happy Samsung customer (not that I'm not already).

Anyway thank you for your time,
Ian DeOrio

Try connecting the satellite box to the Home Theater system with optical or RCA cables, depending on the configuration and options of your satellite box.

if you have an optical out (the square-port), then that would be the best option for shows broadcast in HD with surround sound.

TV optical out - optical cable - to Home Theater Optical In

Make sure you have the disc inserted as a Blu Ray vice the other regular DVD side. Also, it can be that the disc itself is damaged or inserted the wrong disc (i.e. inserted disc for the PC instead).

Question

RUF file missing from firmware download

My HT-D5210C blu-ray player stopped working.
It worked on Sunday played a blu-ray and on Monday it stopped working.
I verified the firmware currently installed as 2011/07/29_001007.
THere is an update from October 15, 2012 so I tried to install it.

When I downloaded the zip file for the firmware update I expected to see the .ruf and instead saw a folder named Image with 17 files -- none of which were the .ruf required to do the update.
I spent 2 hours and 45 min with online chat personelle trying to verify that the file downloaded was the correct one.
All of the chat associates assured me it was the correct file, but alas it did not have any firmware updates that the HT-D5210C blu-ray player would recognize from the USB.
YEs, the usb was blank and I even formatted at the request of the chat support person.
Can someone verify that the file available for download contains the correct contents or the instructions for updating the firm ware are up to date?
I've included pictures of the process I followed
download; extract and the contents of what was in the Zip file.

I’m sorry to hear that you're having this problem with your Blu-ray player.

I’d recommend trying to reset the unit by turning the unit on and making sure that the disc tray is empty. Then, press and hold the STOP button until the unit resets. Then, go through the initial setup and power down the unit. Then, try and restart the unit and you should have proper operation by pressing 1 for English when the language options appear.

If you still continue to experience difficulty, I would recommend contacting the Samsung customer service center, and speaking to one of our chat agents at the following link:

http://www.samsung.com/us/support/

Or you can also call them directly at 1-800-SAMSUNG.

Thank you for contacting Samsung.

We recommend you make sure your TV speakers are turned off when using the home theater, as this can cause audio echo to occur. Some TVs refer to this setting as "internal mute" and others refer to it as "speaker select". You should also check your sound mode settings and make sure it's not set to the "hall" setting, as it can produce an audio echo. Since we don't know what TV model you have, it's best to review the manual for any settings your TV may offer.
