I had the same problem with Fox Searchlight discs. I was running firmware 100427.01_XAA (Apr. 2010)which I thought was the current version because my internet-connected player told me no update was needed. Turns out there WAS a newer version available (released Jan. 2011) so I downloaded it, burned a CD, and updated it that way. This fixed the chapter pop up issue!! Still not sure why I couldn't install the new firmware right from the player though. It had worked fine previously, but at least now we can watch 127 Hours tonight without the annoying pop ups.

Have you tried the latest firmware update?
There was a new one issued 1/21/11.
I am currently having this problem as well.
From what I have read this has to do with the DRM (digital rights management) coding.
If the manufacture does not update the players with new DRM coding issued by the content distributor the content will not play or have this slide show scene selection issue.
Couple blu ray movie examples I have noticed are Predators and Whip It and Salt will not even play.
Will be trying the new firmware update tonight and crossing my fingers this will be the fix needed.
Hopefully this helps.

You could connect via the ethernet/CAT-5 cable to your modem. Use the internet cable to connect the Blu-Ray player to your modem in order to update the Blu-Ray player. Then using the menu button on the remote (while no disc is in the player) go to the update selection and update via internet (or something similar -- please forgive me, I have a movie playing currently and do not wish to eject it to get the exact terminology).

This should allow you to update right from Samsung's web server. Hope this helps.

I've updated the firmware to the 100827_01_HT_BD2_XAA.iso and it still hangs at ~ 95% of the pre-loading.
I'm able to watch other BluRay movies, only SLAT hangs and can not watch it.

Samsung released a firmware update on 1/21/2011. I also had this firmware version prior to upgrading. I wasn't able to update my player using the network. I was able to download the firmware update, and burn the disc image (.ISO file) to a CD. You just put the burned CD into the player to start the update process. After I updated, I was able to play the Salt Blu-ray disc no problem. The new firmware is 110118_01_HT_BD2_XAA. Hope that helps!

Note: I have Windows 7, so after you unzip the firmware download, it gives you a .ISO file. You can right click on this file and choose "Burn disc image"

There are very specific instructions.

http://downloadcenter.samsung.com/content/FM/200901/20090109105847140/HT-BD2_System_Upgrade_by_CD_Method.pdf

It's a pain...but if you follow the instructions exactly, it will work. The bad news is that the "newest" update is over six months old, so it may not solve all of your playback issues.

HT-BD2E blu-ray home theatre system missing newest update?

I rented the blu-ray for my children this evening. The blu-ray indicated I needed the update to the player. I uploaded the newest version to the player and I am still unable to play this movie. Is there a newer version update than what is avail on the website? Or am I missing something that you would be able to assist me to get the blu ray up to play the newer dvd's? Thanks..John

I'm not sure which Blu-ray title didn't work, since it wasn't listed in the post. I'm unable to determine if this title was actually causing the player not playing, or if you're just viewing a message that warns people that a firmware update MIGHT be necessary (which is common from several studios to put that warning in before or after the previews).

If you come across that screen again, press the FF>> Button on remote control in most cases you can get past the screen.

If you need further assistance with your player, feel free to reach out to her Samsung customer service center at 800-SAMSUNG.

I’m sorry to hear that you're having this problem with your Blu-ray player.

I’d recommend trying to reset the unit by turning the unit on and making sure that the disc tray is empty. Then, press and hold the STOP button until the unit resets. Then, go through the initial setup and power down the unit. Then, try and restart the unit and you should have proper operation.

If you still continue to experience difficulty, I would recommend contacting the Samsung customer service center, and speaking to one of our chat agents at the following link:

http://www.samsung.com/us/support/

Or you can also call them directly at 1-800-SAMSUNG.

We appreciate your support of Samsung products, and we look forward to assisting you.
