Questions & Answers for HL61A750 HL61A750

Question

Optical Output question: There is considerable debate about whether or not the Samsung TV I own (HL 61A750) can output Dolby digital 5.1 or 7.1 via

it's optical output on the back if fed via an HDMI cable from an audio video source such as a satellite receiver.. Specifically, using an HDMI 1.2 or 1.3 cable? I have tried this using an HDMI 1.2 cable and it does not output dolby digital. Do I need a 1.3 cable or is it just that the optical output will only pass stereo? We are trying to pin down an issue with Dish Network VIP722 or 622 audio issues hooked to this type of TV.
THANK YOU in advance for your help!

I have a VIP622 connected directly to an AV receiver and had the same problem. HDMI cable would only pass stereo audio. When I attached my PS3 to the same input using the same cable, the Dolby Digital 5.1 worked just fine. Your problem is definitely with the Dish receiver. I was able to use the HDMI for video and the 622's optical output for 5.1 audio, as the Denon receiver let me specify which audio input to use for each HDMI input. Since you are trying to pass the audio through the TV, I'm guessing it's to a home theater system. If your HT system has HDMI in/out, I would suggest running both HDMI and optical from the Dish receiver into the HT system, and HDMI out from the HT to the Samsung. If your AV receiver doesn't have HDMI, just leave the HDMI between the Dish and Samsung, and use an optical cable from the Dish to your AV receiver. Enjoy watching movies in Dolby 5.1!

Although i can not speak for the cost on the LED light source in DLPs (contact 1-800-SAMSUNG for replacements), I can say that yes, if it does malfunction for whatever reason, they can be easily replaced.

Question

Possible for firmware updates

Is it possible or probable for Samsung to update the firmware in the HLxxA750 model televisions to include the new features that are in the LED TV's such as the yahoo widgets, RSS feeds, etc. using the additional samsung wireless adapter for internet content and connectivity?

It is possible, but not probable. The main issue is that the way the TVs are programed and built determines the features that will be available on the set. If the TV is not set up for widgets, it will be much harder to get that feature to work properly with it. Keep checking back on Samsung.com for any updates on firmware.

Question

Has the HL61A750 been discontinued?

I have been shopping online and have noticed several sites that indicate this and other samsung LED DLP HDTVs have been discontinued. Are these still being manufactured, and will they continue to be made in the future? I do not want to invest in one of these sets if they will no longer be made and parts will not be available in the future

Hi there JohnAllshouse, I can understand your concern. Even if a product that is manufactured by Samsung is being discontinued, we will not just drop support for it. There are thousands of other loyal customers out there that have that product and would eventually need service on it. That being said, at this time I can not say id the HL61A750 is being discontinued, but I will say that if you purchase this TV, you will not be left out in the rain. Keep checking back on Samsung.com for all the latest updates.

I hope this helped you out :)

It can, but its not recommended since it is such a large TV.. I don't think there are any Vesa approved wall mounts for the DLPs anyways. You will probably need to use a mount that hold the TV from the bottom of the stand it self.

Question

Are all parts available for warrantied HL61A750?

Several AV blogs are indicating that Samsung does not have all replacement parts for the HL61A750 and that the company is offering lesser TV's as replacement. Is this true? If so, it is shocking as these sets were discontinued only 6 months ago.
