Why does my DLP T.V. keep shutting off? Model number HL-S5086W

We tried blowing the dust out of the back. Not much dust was in there, and it didn't seem to help.

If your picture gets darker you need a new lamp. If it just shuts off it most likely is the ballast. I"ve had these problems and the new ballast corrected it. Now stays on all the time.

i had this same problem with my dlp. there could be a number of problems so i will tell you how i fixed mine. i had my dlp for 4yrs before it actually started to turn of by itself every 30-60mins like clockwork while the standby and lamp led's were flashing at the same time. luckily my dlp was still in warranty under best buy at the time. but the only thing they did was replace the bulb. of course they sent in an incompetant service man but that's a different story. so now the bulb was replaced, tv was now working fine. that is until we had to move, which means we had to travel with this tv on a truck and move it in to the house. then this problem started occuring again, shutting off with standby and lamp led flashing. i thought "this can't be happening, the bulb was replaced only 3 months ago". i knew it wasn't the bulb because it was new. so i came to this web site for help. i read the troubleshooting guide available on this website. from what i gathered in this vague guide, the door to the bulb was loose. also available on this site is a how to video on how to replace your bulb, which will be helpful if this is your first time doing this. so i opened the door to the bulb, with power unplugged of course, and found out that the screw used to hold the bulb in place was not on tight, which was replaced by the best buy service man and of course did not do a good job. so i tightened the screw, cleaned up the dust, screwed on the door and the problem hasn't occured in a whole week. i hope this was helpful.

Question

Lamp light flashing after replacing the lamp?

I recently had my HLS5086WX go out. I assumed that the lamp had burned out. After replacing the lamp the problem persisted and I found that the color wheel was bad. After replacing the color wheel and reassembling the TV, all I'm getting is a flashing lamplight on the front. When it sits for a few moments the red power supply light will turn on. The power up sound will sound then the lamp light continues to blink. How do I get this fixed?

Can you tell me what my issue might be?

when the tv is turned on first time for the day, there is no sound and the picture is faded yellow & pink. We turn it off, unplug it for a 4-5 minutes and then plug it back up and everything works fine the rest of the day, no matter how often it is turned off and back on. Next morning, same issue again. A couple of days before this started happening, we noticed the surge protector had kicked off in the night. This happened at least twice. My husband got another one and hooked it up. It doesn't matter if it's plugged into it or directly into the wall. Same issue. We know how to replace a lamp, have done it before but never had these problems. Could this be the lamp, or would it be the color wheel or maybe even the board? We have heard if it's the board, due to the cost we might as well replace the tv. Just want to know if anyone else has ever had this problem?

Question

Why does my TV turn off by itself?

RE: 50 inch DLP. The color and sound are the same as the day I bought the TV six years ago. The problem we are having started several weeks ago, but most days it works perfectly. We will be watching TV and it will turn off by itself. I wait a minute and then use the remote to turn it on. Last night it happened twice in the evening.

Any suggestions?

What does "check fan #2" mean when it pops up on the screen?

A box popped up on the screen saying "check fan #2" and shortly thereafter the TV just shut off by itself. I looked in the owners manual for guideance and there is no reference to that subject. Whats up?

HD DLP HL-S5086W Sound Cracked and Cut Off Why?

I've had this HD TV for 4 Years now but the sound just cut off just after a loud crackling noise from the speaker not the back so I don't think this is a sound board Problem, but I am always willing to learn if I am wrong
