Why does my Galaxy Tab 7 Plus shutdown completely sometimes when it is in stand-by mode?

The dreaded and common Sleep of Death (SOD). Started happening after I upgraded to ICS. I downloaded an app called Auto Airplane mode by DON and it solved the problem, never had an SOD since. I believe it's ICS and Samsung's Touchwiz together with how Wifi is handled when it goes to sleep that causes a conflict and shuts down the tab. It's a small app that does not take up too much memory. Helps prolong battery life too.

The solution is actually to just backup your data and do a factory restore. I had that issue, and it seems to be resolved by factory restoring. It appears to be a corruption that can occur in 3.2 on our devices, maybe due to touchwiz, but rather than just ask a question, contact samsung support and submit a bug request. They can then try to track it down with log files.

I have had a galaxy tab 7 plus for about a month. It goes in to the Death of Sleep about once a day where it seems to crash while in sleep mode. To wake it up, you have to hold the power button down for about 10 seconds to reboot. It is a widely reported problem in the forums. My tab 7 plus also reboots spontaniously, also reported in the forums. Samsung needs to address these problems. I am returning my 7 plus tab today.

I have found that a hard restart solves this. Plug it in and hold the Power button for 15 seconds or so and it should show a charging battery then press the power button again and it comes back up. This has happened to me several times and that fixed it for me. Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus 16GB

I have the same problem. I think it is a software bug and hopefully they release an update that will take care of this. I read at another forum that a lot of people have this trouble. I have my second tab 7 plus and both had this problem so it is not a hardware problem but rather in the OS or Touchwiz UI.

ICS was released a couple of months back.

You'll need to connect the GT7Plus to Samsung Kies then select the option to update your device.

The software should automatically find the device and whether or not ICS is available for your device in your area.

If available, just download and install though it does take awhile for the entire upgrade process.

It is recommended to do a factory reset after any OS upgrade. It did work for me

To save the battery, i installed the app called 'auto airplane mode' from the google play store. It turns off the wifi when the tab is put in standby and allows the battery to last a long time.

the only (small) drawback is that widgets (like weather) and email won't update in the background when the tab is in standby. It doesn't matter to me as i have my GS2 phone with me for these purposes and i really use the tab for a set of apps. Regardless, the widgets update when i reanimate the tab from standby so it's only a few seconds delay then.

hope this helps

I am having the same problem. A factory reset fixed it for awhile. After a second factory reset did not fix it when the battery drain returned, I figured out a few things:
1) battery drain is due to tablet not staying in deep sleep. (this is why Samsung's suggested fixes are not helpful...it's not the settings, it's a bug)
2) battery drain is related to wifi. With wifi off, the tablet will go to sleep and the normal long standby times return.
3) leaving wifi on, even during sleep, can slow the drain by allowing the tablet to go to sleep. If this is not working for you, try clearing the memory cache (do a search forinstructions on how to do this)
4) I have been unable to get rid of battery drain when wifi policy is set to automatically turn off during sleep (either "only when plugged in" or "never" on during sleep). I have done all the things that Samsung recommends in the link above, as well as uninstalling all apps and a host of other fixes. This is a bug that is clearly related to Samsung devices that got the ICS upgrade.

I have the same issue. Since the ICS upgrade I am recharging my tablet on a *daily* basis. I have minimized screen usage, disabled sync and GPS and the best I get is 1 day of STANDBY. (see photo).

I am getting better performance from my Galaxy SII cell phone with more usage and hourly sync.

It is engraved on the back. It is very small and engraved gray on gray. The serial number is also there.
The only way you can read it is with a good magnifying glass.

Whoever ok'd that aspect of the Tab's design should be fired along, with the designer who put it there. They are both are idiots. It should be larger and also part of the About Screen, in settings.

Question

Why can't I play videos in websites after ICS update?

Anytime I try to play a video embedded in a website after the Ice Cream Sandwich update it simply will not play. Then it will show a small blue lego block- looking symbol with a question mark on it. It seems to show this symbol with certain other animations in websites.

I tried the stock browser and the Dolphin browser and the same problem occurs.

I have double checked the content settings in the browsers as well.

Thanks

I did mine at the end of August 2012. Put Samsung Kies on your PC, hook the tablet up to USB, and go. My install was perfect, but it took a long time- over an hour, probably due to server demand. Do NOT interrupt the upgrade (like I almost did) if you have to leave it hooked up all night.

Samsung tech support has confirmed that this is a known problem with the stock browser on this tablet. I was unable to get an answer on if a future firmware upgrade will fix this but I suspect that the slated ICS upgrade will resolve this issue. In the meantime the only way to solve this issue is to install a 3rd party browser such as "Opera" or Dolphin" from the Android Market and utilize one of those browsers instead of the stock browser.

Question

does media hub work on galaxy tab 7.0 plus?

I have just purchased a galaxy tab 7.0 plus in the United States. The Media Hub app will not function. The tab software is up to date. When I attempt to run Media Hub it says it requires an update. When I go to manage the app through the Android Market, I can click "update" but I always get an "install failed" error. Media Hub does NOT show up as and installed application in my Settings/Applications/manage Applications menu at all.

Is this product supposed to work on the new galaxy Tab 7 PLUS? If so, please advise as to how to enable it to function.

Just purchased a GT 7.0+ yesterday and was experiencing the issues you listed above. Here is how I got it working:

• Go to Settings>About Device>Software update>Update (check for updates).
• Follow the prompts and let it do its thing. It will download the software, reboot, then install the update.

Make sure your device is fully charged or plug your device with the supplied charger when applying the update. After the update is installed. Relaunch Media Hub and then you will be prompted to update. This time the Android Market update for Media Hub should work.
