How do I get the GPS working

I was under the impression that i could use the GPS without having a wi-fi connection, For Geocaching etc. When I try and start Latitudes or Maps the screen says loading but never gets there, I have had it on for 30 minutes, in full view of the sky, Wi-fi is turned off, gps is turned on, What am I doing wrong?

We recommend you invest in a universal electrical adapter. This will allow you to connect any existing US electrical cords or adapters to the electrical standard in whichever country you are in, or wherever else you may travel around the world in the future. We cannot recommend any specific product, but you're better off spending the money on a universal adapter instead a special adapter just for your tablet itself. That way, you can plug in additional electronics and continue to use them as well while you travel.

I use the Talkatone app (free) with my Google Voice number to make and receive calls and text messages at no cost. I even use it to call back to the US for free when I'm out of the country. Use a Bluetooth headset for best results.

Yes. You can get several apps to use your phone. You need to activate Google Talk and use Groove IP ($) or Talkatone (free). I have use both of these on my Android phone, but only Groove IP on my tablet. It works very well and it is pretty clear 99% of the time. If you have Sprint, and Google Voice integration with your phone number, then when you call from any of these apps, people would see your phone number when you call. Pretty cool.

This tablet does not contain the necessary internal parts to make a phone call like a smartphone would allow, but there are apps such as Skype that allow you to make a phone call online, even though there are certain limitations.

Question

Home Key - frozen

Gave my kid this Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 two days ago. Last night started having some issues with it automatically turning on and off on its own. Plus had some what I cal pixilation on the screen (little colorful horizontal lines) And not able to navigate around. I was able to get it completely shut down by holding down the Power/Lock Key for 10-15 sec. Fully charged it.
Now today I have been able to get into the Settings area and move around just fine. The Back & Navigation Keys seem to be working. The Home Key doesn't seem to work.
We do have "Kids Place - Parental Controls by Kiddoware" on the device. It is suppose to be set if our kid turns on the device w/o us knowing, that it will go directly into Kids Place. Right now this is not happening. Not sure this is the culprit to the problem or not.
Any suggested input would be appreciated.

I'm sorry to hear you're having this issue, and I do understand how frustrating this could be.

I would suggest uninstalling the Kid's Place app and see if the issue continues. If it doesn't reinstall the app and go from there. If the issue does continue save all your data to an external place such as the cloud and perform a factory data reset. If the issue persists from there the unit may need service; contact tech support at 1-800-SAMSUNG (7267864)

My Tab2 was updated just last week. (about 7-11-2012) Go into your settings and under "About Device" there is a Software Update button. Just press that (with a good charge on your battery) and you should be set.

The stylus can be used for anything you normally use your finger for.
This is the reason for a stylus; it allows for a smaller, finer, more precise touch on the screen.

If by chance you are trying to use a S-Pen or other Digitizer stylus it won't work. The only kind that works on this device is a conductive stylus.

You can download and watch movies on this unit, but it will not stream liscenced movies to other devices. I'm not sure about storing movies on this device. If you can it won't hold more than 1 or 2 since it only has about 4.4 Gb of storage on it with nothing else installed.

Wi-Fi signal strength

I just purchased a new Tab 2 7.0 and noticed that the WiFi singal is weaker than all of my other devices in my house. I have tried a firmware update (it was up to date) and a hard reset and none of these corrected the issue. Any other advice?

1. Everybody can google it and you will find most Tab2 7.0 users have this WiFi connection problem. I am using one of the BEST rounters in the market - EnGenius ESR9850 wireless router which is famous for strong signal and throuput. I have 2 laptops, 1 netbook, 3 ipads, 2 cellphones using the same WiFi at my home. I am not using them all at the same time, but all of them have full bar of WiFi signal except my 1 day old Samsung Tab2 7.0. Obviously it is either design problem or hardware issue. Samsung should act NOW to solve the problem. I have great hopes on Samsung but this one disappoints me completely!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

2. My Tab2 pops up showing "update samsung account?" every 20 seconds, extremely annoying!!!!!!!!!!!! Even after I put in my email and correct password and I still cannot log in to samsung account while this pop up window still asks to update again and again and again!!!!! Do we need to log in to use window computers? Do we need to log in to MicroSoft to get the windows updates? Why on earth do we need an extra samsung account to get the software update as we already paid for your products?

If Samsung is not solving this problem within 20 days after reading so many negative feedbacks about the WiFi connection problems, this samsung tab2 is going back to Best Buy!

There is clearly a problem with the Galaxy Tab....I am having a same problem with connectivity and my 2.7. It drops WiFi suddenly or will show weak or no signal strength when all other devices in my home using WiFi are showing "Excellent" signal strength from my WiFi. This has been very frustrating.

I just got my Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 a few days ago and I love it. My only complaint has been wifi connectivity. I find that it will suddenly drop bars for no reason at all. Even if I am sitting right by router. I had a similar issue with a mobile phone a few months back (not Samsung) and suspected it was the antenna placement. Knowing my router is not the problem (works great with everything else in the house) I decided to look online. Found a few forums that mentioned the antenna is placed in the lower left side of the tablet. So if you are holding the tablet in portrait mode, your left hand will more than likely be covering the antenna. Sure enough, when I reposition my hand in portrait mode, I get full connectivity to my router. My fix has been to flip the tablet upside down and use it that way. It's a bit annoying as the power button is now where your hand is, but it's the only way I can keep a wifi connection. Also a pain when using certain apps that require an internet connection and you cannot rotate the screen. Annoying but at least there is a workaround.

It sounds like you've done just about everything we would've tried to isolate what the issue may be. You might check to see if your wireless router has the latest firmware. Also, you might power cycle your network. Unplug the router and modem and leave off for 30 seconds or more. Then, plug in wireless router first and let it fully boot before plugging in your modem and letting it fully boot. Then test again. Good luck!

Bluetooth headset is paired but cannot get music or video

I have a Wireless bluetooth headset which is paired with my GT-P3113.

The message I get is that it is connected to phone audio.

I don't get sound (music or video) throuh the headset. The sound comes from the speakers.

How do I switch the sound to come from the headset?

As far as I have seen there isn't a way to disable this feature that doesn't involve a 3rd party app or void the warranty.

I'm not even sure about the app, but I know there are custom roms which will do it. This is a bit more technical than most people are accustomed to and as stated this WILL VOID the WARRANTY.

Since it VOIDS the Warranty, I WOULDN'T suggest going that route.

My Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 automatically deletes email when I least expect it. What is the criteria for auto-delete of email? There are no settings to deal with deleting email! How can I prevent that?

Is it deleting the email only from the device or from the server as well?

If its only the device try removing and adding the email address.
Possibly resetting the app in the app manager.

To reset the app go to apps> settings> applications manager> email app and force stopping then clearing the data.

If its from the server as well change the "Delete from server" setting in the email app.

Other than this you can try contacting Tech Support at 1-800-SAMSUNG (7267864) and see if they have any other information.

The GPS can be used when there is no internet. The problem is any program that needs to download something (such as maps) from the internet based on the data from the GPS will not work.

In Google Maps you can cache maps from the internet that can be used when the internet is unavailable. The navigation function will not work, since that is calculated on google servers and not on the Samsung Tab.

This frequently happens to me when using the Tab in landscape mode. The light sensor is on the top in Portrait mode (next to the FF camera). My hand often obstructs the light sensor, causing the brightness to fluctuate.

If you look in the settings on the shade from the lower right, there should be a brightness slider and an "Auto" checkbox. Uncheck the checkbox if you are having problems.

You probably have the display set to "Auto" so that when the device detects a change in the light level of the environment it brightens or darkens the screen.

This device will not work with a HDMI adapter it is a physical limitation of the device.

The 8gb of internal storage is before all of the tablets software and any apps are installed, plus just like when you buy a hard drive for your computer, if it says it's a 120gb drive you're likely to have only about 115gb due to system information once the drive is formatted.

how do i prevent faceboo mobil from popping up on my gaalxy tab 2 when i try to access my facebook account?

You can try resetting the app.
To reset the app go to:
Apps> Settings> Applications manager> facebook and selecting force stop, then clear data.

If possible uninstall the app and reinstall it.

If this doesn't resolve the issue contact Facebook for more support since it is there app and Samsung can't support 3rd party apps.

Question

Red frame around border

Sometimes when I go from one screen to another, a red frame appears around the edges of the screen. I looked online and found the suggestion that the box for Strict Mode under Settings/Developer options, but that didn't fix it. I don't think it's supposed to do this. What can be done to fix it?

According to page 184 of the product manual, Strict Mode makes the screen flash when applications perform long operations on the main thread. To access this setting, from the Home screen, touch Apps ➔ Settings ➔ Applications ➔ Developer options.

This is a built-in feature for users of the Galaxy Tab that are developing apps for the device. Unless you've installed a version of Android other than the version that came pre-installed on the device, you should be able to disable this feature by following the instructions above.

registration

I purchased the samsung galaxy tab2 for my 8 yr old grandson
should I have registered in his name ? I registered it in my name and when I turn it on it has my name on it .
should I edit this?

Question

microSDHC Card

I put eh card in and it shows up as inserted. I found that I could 'set' for gallery to send pictures to the card, but I can't see how to send music to the card with the same, easy, save to card.
I already put some music on the device. Can they be moved to the card, and how? Are how do I set music to go directly to the card?
